Chapter 131 Seraphina's Irritability

Cecilia was deep into her work when Rose walked in to update her on Charles and Roy's resignations. They were too embarrassed to stick around, so the process was quick.

Once they left, the sales team swiftly and diligently handled the transition. In just a few days, the department was back on track, buzzing with new energy.

With all the chaos sorted, Cecilia was ready to dive into the market sales work. She had promised herself she would only accept success with no room for failure.

She meticulously reviewed the sales projects left by the previous team, organizing and addressing all the issues.

Her phone rang. Cecilia glanced at it. Ever since she mistook Alaric's call for Dominic's, she had been more cautious. She felt she might have hurt Alaric last time, though she didn't feel too guilty about it.

Seeing Seraphina's name, she answered, "Seraphina."

"Where's the real Cecilia?" Seraphina demanded.

Cecilia frowned.

"The Cecilia I know isn't this capable, assertive, and sharp. Who are you?"

"Are you crazy?" Cecilia snapped.

"How else could you have changed so much? I saw the news today. You scared those employees so much they were trembling, and you made the company's second-largest shareholder resign out of guilt! How did you do it? You used to be the peacemaker. How am I supposed to see you now?"

"You're jealous," Cecilia laughed.

"Yes! Jealousy has disfigured me!" Seraphina said dramatically. "You're already beautiful, but now you're talented and capable too! You've completely overshadowed me. Sorry, we can't be friends anymore."

"Crazy," Cecilia muttered, knowing Seraphina was joking.

"But seriously, are you okay?" Seraphina asked.

"I'm fine," Cecilia replied.

"How can you be fine when you've changed so much?"

"Because I finally understood something," Cecilia said.

"What did you understand?" Seraphina asked.

"Self-reliance."

Seraphina pouted. "Sounds like you're mocking me."

Seraphina was a typical daddy's girl, living off her parents' money. Despite her issues with her father, she received an allowance most people couldn't imagine.

"So, do you want to learn to be independent like me?"

"No!" Seraphina shot back. "I still have Sebastian! I'm not like you, with a husband who can't be relied on."

She was obviously talking about Alaric. But Cecilia's inability to rely on Alaric wasn't for the reasons Seraphina thought. She and Alaric were in a sham marriage, just cooperating for mutual benefit, with no one depending on the other.

"By the way! The news said you were on the rooftop negotiating with an employee about to jump. Do you know how scary that was? Even if you're trying to make a point, you can't risk your life like that!" Seraphina scolded.

Seraphina might seem carefree and bold, but deep down, she was more sensitive than most. She didn't show it often.

"Okay, I got it," Cecilia said, playing along.

"Alright then." Seraphina yawned. "I haven't even fully woken up yet. I'm going back to sleep."

"Seraphina, it's past 4 PM. Have you been sleeping all day? Where were you last night?" Cecilia teased.

"I went to a club, didn't I call you? Speaking of last night, did you question Alaric? Who was that woman with him? What's their deal? Could she show up pregnant and cause a scene?" Seraphina suddenly got excited again.

Cecilia sighed, "It's not as dramatic as you think. And I've told you, there's nothing between me and Alaric, so stop worrying."

"Cecilia, I'm not worried!" Seraphina snapped.

They bickered over the phone until Seraphina finally hung up in frustration.

Damn.

She wasn't as pretty or talented as Cecilia, and now she even lost in a verbal spar. She couldn't understand why she was so devoted to being friends with Cecilia, to the point where she felt she could even die for her!

Seraphina really had a masochistic streak. She lay back on the bed, trying to sleep.

She hadn't slept all night. Even though she was dead tired and wanted to sleep off her drunkenness, she couldn't fall asleep. All she could see was the scene of her kissing Dashiell, over and over, like a movie she couldn't escape.

She finally fell asleep when the sun came up. She was grateful she didn't have to work and could sleep as much as she wanted.

At this moment, she was actually awake but felt too weak to get up.

She was a bit hungry, but not too much, so she could still hold on. She just stared at the ceiling in a daze.

As she zoned out, she thought again about kissing Dashiell last night.

Damn it!

The whole thing was so unconscious. At the time, she didn't know what she was doing, but afterward, she remembered everything. She remembered that she was the one who initiated it, even a bit too eagerly.

She couldn't help but curse again.

She didn't know how Dashiell saw her, how promiscuous she must have seemed. Of course, she didn't care. She was just disgusted that she had taken the initiative to kiss him.

After a while, Seraphina eventually got out of bed. If she kept lying there, her mind would keep replaying last night's scenes, and she would probably go crazy.
