Chapter 253 Sudden Loss of Control

The night was getting late.

Cecilia skimmed through all the contracts.

On the first read, she didn't notice any issues.

She turned to check the time.

It was already 11 PM.

If she read through them again, it might well stretch into the early hours of the morning.

Stretching her arms, she reminded herself not to push her body too hard.

Having died once, she understood that life was the most precious thing of all.

As long as people were alive, everything had a chance to turn around.

She closed the files, shut down the computer, and took it with her. Then she said to Augustus, "Off work."

Augustus replied, "Yes, ma'am."

Cecilia settled into the backseat of Augustus' car. The streets were noticeably quieter now, with far fewer vehicles.

She gazed out the window, the emptiness outside reflecting a certain solitude she felt.

"Augustus, before you started working for me, were you always with Alaric?" Cecilia asked.

She really didn't want to get too sentimental.

"Yes," Augustus nodded.

Cecilia asked, "So you must know him very well?"

"What do you want to know, Mrs. Whitaker?" Augustus asked cautiously.

"Is Alaric a good person?" Cecilia asked directly.

Augustus was stunned.

He wasn't trying to hide anything.Even if he had something to say, the sudden mention of "good person" threw him off balance.

In their world, good and bad were rarely clear-cut. Survival and achieving one's goals were what mattered most.

"It's fine, I was just curious. It feels a bit too quiet, so I thought we could chat," Cecilia said, assuming Augustus didn't want to engage.

In fact, she had tried several times, but Augustus was so tight-lipped that she couldn't really ask anything.

"A good person," Augustus said suddenly.

Cecilia was taken aback.

"For others, I don't know, but for me, Mr. Whitaker is a good person," Augustus said with certainty.

"Is that so?" Cecilia murmured.

She wasn't doubting him.

After all, someone like Augustus either stayed silent or spoke the truth without hesitation.

But then Alaric popped into her mind—an enigma, neither purely good nor entirely bad.

A man who was completely unpredictable.

Cecilia thought, 'Is he really a good person? Of course not.

'Augustus doesn't lie, but there's a premise.

'To him, Alaric is a good person.

'But what about to others?

'What about to me?'

Cecilia smiled faintly.

Cecilia asked herself inside, 'Why am I so curious about what kind of person Alaric really is? Do I care?'

The car arrived at Alaric's villa, and Cecilia walked in.

The only one waiting for her at home, no matter how late, was George.

She thought, 'The reason I trust Alaric despite all his mysteries is probably because the people around Alaric doesn't seem that bad.

'If Alaric can put on a facade, can the others around him also be such skilled actors?

'If that's the case, I could only say that Alaric is more sophisticated than Dominic, and I'd have to accept it.'

"Mrs. Whitaker, you're back? I'll bring your tonic over. Please sit on the sofa for a bit," George said quickly.

Cecilia said, "Thank you, George."

George brought the tonic and placed it in front of Cecilia. "Mrs. Whitaker, be careful, it's hot."

Cecilia nodded.

As she drank the tonic, she asked, "George, has Alaric come back?"

"Yes, he's been home for a while, since about 6 PM. Is there something you need from Mr. Whitaker? Should I call him up for you?"

"No need," Cecilia declined.

She was simply wondering if Alaric might be too busy today. If he was, that would explain why he hadn't even called.

She thought, 'As I expected, I shouldn't have too much hope for Alaric.

'I shouldn't have any hope at all.'

She finished her tonic and got up to walk to the bedroom.

As she pushed the door open, she hesitated for a moment.

There was no need for them to sleep in the same bed anymore.

Alaric wasn't at the point where he couldn't take care of himself.

Besides, it was already late.

She really didn't want to disturb his rest.

Just as she was about to turn away, the door suddenly flew open.

Before she could react, a powerful hand grabbed her arm, pulling her inside with a forceful tug.

At the same time, the door closed behind her.

Cecilia's body was pressed against the door.

What followed was an overwhelming kiss.

The kiss was deep and urgent.

Cecilia twisted her body in refusal.

At that moment, she even wondered if Alaric was sleepwalking.

His unexpected appearance and aggressive behavior were completely out of the blue.

Cecilia tried to make a sound, but Alaric blocked her completely.

She didn't dare to push his body hard for fear of touching the wound on his chest.

"Alaric… let go of me… mmm…" Cecilia could barely get a word out.

Cecilia thought, 'Is he in some kind of frenzy?

The heat between their lips made her feel like they were about to catch fire.

"Y... you…" Cecilia was overwhelmed by Alaric's kiss.

Her eyes fluttered closed.

In a sudden move, she wrapped her arms around Alaric's neck, deepening the kiss between them.

She thought, 'If I can't fight it, why not just surrender to it?

'Who says I'm destined to be the one at a disadvantage?

'Besides, I do seem a little depressed today.'

Since her rebirth, this was the first time she felt truly threatened, making it impossible for her to remain as indifferent as she appeared.

And she had heard that having sex was the best way to release emotions.

Though she had never thought it was all that appealing before, now she found herself reconsidering.

Cecilia pondered, 'What if Alaric is different. His kissing technique is different; who knows, maybe his skills in bed are too.'

With that thought, Cecilia decided to let go of her reservations.

She didn't just return Alaric's fervent kiss; she practically invited him as they fell onto the bed together.

Cecilia's small hand actively slipped under Alaric's shirt.

The next second, he was pinning Cecilia beneath him.

Their kiss grew even more intense, as if the room's temperature was rising by the second.

"Wait." Alaric grabbed Cecilia's wandering hand.

At this moment, Cecilia's face was flushed.

Her petite, soft body under him felt like it was coated in honey, sweet and irresistible.

"Don't have a condom?" Cecilia panted, her hot breath hitting his face as she asked.

Alaric's heart was racing.

From the moment Cecilia took the initiative, it had been racing.

At this moment, being asked so bluntly by Cecilia, his heart raced even faster.

Alaric thought, 'Did Cecilia know what this question meant?'

"It's okay, I'm in my safe period today," Cecilia added.

Alaric's Adam's apple bobbed up and down.

He pondered, 'Whoever could hold back at this moment would be a fool!'
