Chapter 641 Birth (1)
Alaric gave Cassius a ring, wanting to get him ready too.
But as soon as Cassius picked up, he blurted out, "Alaric, I'm gonna be a dad..."
Alaric's face tightened. "Lily's in labor?"
"Not yet, we're on our way to the hospital. I'm kinda freaking out," Cassius said, his voice buzzing with excitement.
Alaric could feel the urgency in Cassius's tone.
"Come over and keep me company, man. I'm losing it here," Cassius said straight up.
Alaric checked the time. "Alright, I'll be there soon."
"I'll wait for you." And with that, Cassius hung up.
Just as Alaric was about to tell Augustus to turn the car around, he called Cecilia.
"Are you back?" Cecilia asked, sounding anxious.
"Lily's about to give birth. We're heading to the hospital. Cassius needs some support; he's all over the place," Alaric explained.
"I'll come too," Cecilia said without hesitation.
Hearing Lily was about to give birth made her nervous too.
Alaric paused for a moment. "Alright, I'll come pick you up."
He had a feeling Cecilia would want to go. Otherwise, he would've just told Augustus to head straight to the hospital.
Augustus picked up Cecilia as fast as he could, then drove to the hospital at a snail's pace.
Cecilia was about to lose it from the anxiety.
Cassius kept calling Alaric, urging him to hurry, but Alaric stayed calm.
Finally, they got to the hospital.
Alaric held Cecilia's hand, walking slowly to the delivery room.
Outside, Hugo was sitting calmly in the hallway, Dashiell was there too, and of course, Cassius, who was pacing like a madman.
When Alaric showed up, Cassius's face darkened. "What took you so long? Are we even friends?"
"Not like I can do much here anyway," Alaric shot back.
Cassius looked like he was about to blow a fuse.
Cecilia rolled her eyes at Alaric and walked over to Cassius. "How's it going? What's happening inside?"
Cassius sighed. "I don't know. After dinner, Lily was walking in the yard, then she suddenly called out. The maid saw her water broke, so we rushed here. She's been in there for over an hour, and we just hear her cry out now and then..."
From the delivery room, Lily let out another cry.
Cassius jumped.
It was rare to see him this nervous.
"Yeah, that's how she's been crying," he said to Cecilia.
Cecilia was a bit startled by the cries too but quickly reassured him, "It's okay; childbirth is a process."
"I know, but it's hitting me. How did I suddenly become a dad?" Cassius still seemed in shock.
He hadn't even figured out how he started looking forward to having a kid, even though he never really did before.
Cecilia found Cassius's confusion kind of cute.
"Just wait, maybe Lily will give birth soon," she said.
Cassius nodded.
Right then, Lily screamed again.
Cassius, who had just calmed down a bit, started to lose it again.Cassius kept pacing back and forth, looking like a caged animal.
Hugo, who was used to Cassius's antics, finally snapped. "Can you chill out? You're about to be a dad. Act like it!"
Cassius felt a bit hurt by Hugo's outburst. Couldn't he be nervous? He used to get scolded for not caring about Lily, and now he was getting scolded for worrying too much.
Cecilia chuckled and said, "Don't worry, Cassius. Lily's gonna have a healthy baby boy."
Cassius tried to calm down, taking deep breaths.
Dashiell, trying to lighten the mood, asked Cecilia, "How do you know it's a boy and not a girl?"
Cecilia gave Dashiell a look that said, "Duh."
In this world, only Dashiell knew all of Cecilia's secrets.
"Yeah, what if it's a girl?" Cassius chimed in, not really caring either way.
"I'm just guessing," Cecilia said with a smile. "And he's gonna be quite the looker."
In her previous life, she had seen the kid a few times. Lily was a celebrity, and when a reporter had exposed her child, the kid had inherited all of Lily and Cassius's good looks, shocking the entire entertainment industry.
"Then I hope you're right," Cassius said, feeling a bit happier.
The hallway quieted down a bit as everyone waited.
Alaric had Cecilia sit down, then gave Dashiell and Cassius a knowing look. They immediately understood and walked to the side.
Cecilia and Hugo watched them go but didn't say anything.
Lily's cries from the delivery room were getting more frequent. Even though Cecilia knew it would be a smooth delivery, she couldn't help but feel anxious.
After more than half an hour, Alaric, Dashiell, and Cassius returned to the hallway.
Cassius's first words were, "Why hasn't she given birth yet?"
Hugo shot him a look, and Cassius quieted down.
Just then, the delivery room door opened, and a nurse hurried out.
"Has she given birth?" Cassius rushed forward.
The nurse shook her head. "No, it's been three hours, but she's only dilated three centimeters. Lily's water has broken, which poses a risk to the baby. We recommend a C-section."
"Does it hurt?" Cassius asked, still worried about Lily.
"It doesn't hurt with anesthesia, and it's easier than natural birth," the nurse explained.
"Then let's do a C-section," Cassius decided immediately.
The nurse, getting the confirmation, hurried back into the delivery room.
Time dragged on, and no one came out. Cassius was losing it. "Isn't she having a C-section? Why is she still crying in there?"
Everyone was puzzled. For a C-section, they should have moved to the operating room.
The delivery room door opened again, and the nurse hurried out. "Lily doesn't agree to a C-section. She wants a natural birth. We have to respect her wishes first."
"Is the baby in danger?" Cassius asked, his voice shaking.
"Not for now," the nurse said. "We'll monitor closely. If there's any danger, we'll switch to a C-section immediately. Mr. Blackburn, don't worry."
