Chapter 12 Don't Want to Talk Nonsense
"Okay," Evan always complied with Daphne's requests.
Daphne continued eating.
But unconsciously, her mind was occupied by what is Charles doing here, I wonder?
On the other side, Charles is also pondering the same question. After going to the private room with Austin Hill and Samuel, his mind is filled with the images he saw upon entering.
The table is so big, why sit so close?
"What are you thinking?" Austin enjoys the spectacle. "Didn't they say they had something to discuss with us? Why is he all quiet now?"
"It's nothing," Charles replied curtly.
Austin exchanged a glance with Samuel.
Austin said, "I heard that Evan hasn't been close to any woman for the past twenty-eight years. Well, it seems that rumor isn't true."
"Yeah," Samuel took a sip of his drink.
Charles couldn't stand hearing about Evan and these people anymore, so he snapped at Austin directly, "Do you guys have nothing better to do?"
"We don't," Austin admitted with a smile.
The three of them have a great relationship. They've grown up together since childhood, and they aren't afraid of angering Charles.
Charles felt stifled inside. When he caught a glimpse of Samuel from the corner of his eye, he automatically thought of the reality show playing on TV when he was discussing matters with Daphne at home.
His anger suddenly erupted.
Without fear of hurting the innocent, he directly attacked, "A scumbag still has the leisure to drink."
Samuel: "?"
Austin patted him on the shoulder, smiling wickedly and mischievously, "Let's not argue with someone whose wife cheated on him."
"When it comes to being cheated on, you are my predecessor," Charles retorted, never holding back with his buddies. "At least Daphne didn't have someone else's child in her belly."
Austin's smile froze on his lips.
Samuel became completely perplexed, and he gently asked, "What's going on?"
"Weren't you supposed to talk to us about something?" Austin changed the subject, his mood noticeably worse than before. "What's the matter? Just hurry up and tell us."
"Can you take care of Kayla for me during this time?" Charles temporarily forgot about Daphne's situation as he brought this up. "I owe you once."
But at this moment, their focus was only on one thing: "Kayla is back?"
Charles replied indifferently, "Yes."
"Are you divorcing Daphne for her sake?" Samuel asked the crucial question, his expression showing a hint of complexity.
"Yes," Charles admitted.
Finally, Austin found an opportunity to provoke him, "Did you forget about how she left you and almost brought you down?"
"That was a misunderstanding. She explained everything to me six months ago," Charles didn't hide anything from them. "Daphne told me not to meet her until I received the divorce papers. I need you guys to help take care of Kayla during this time."
Samuel still had some impression of Daphne; she was a gentle and polite girl. "Is she not angry?"
"Not really," Charles recalled.
"Seems like she didn't have any feelings for you. Getting married to you was probably just because of your money," Austin blurted out.
"She's not that kind of person," Charles instinctively defended her.
"Maybe you'll know when she divorced you and demanded things," Austin smirked, his eyes filled with mockery. "Some people pretend to be noble and high-minded, but who knows what kind of person they really are."
"People's hearts are hard to read," Austin added.
Charles frowned, disagreeing with Austin's words.
He wanted to say that Daphne didn't love money, but when he thought about the things she asked for in the divorce, he became uncertain.
As these thoughts weighed on him, his mood grew more restless, and he couldn't even focus on eating.
His gaze wandered towards the door of the private room, filled with anticipation, not even knowing what exactly he was waiting for.
If something ambiguous was really going on between Daphne and Evan, she should have followed him and explained when he closed the door behind him. But now, almost half an hour had passed, and there was no sign of any commotion.
With all these thoughts, he took another sip of his drink.
Austin and Samuel noticed his reaction.
After another ten minutes or so, Austin couldn't stand seeing him like this anymore, so he stood up and casually inserted his hands into his pockets, saying, "Let's go next door and greet them once we're done eating."
"I'm not going," Charles refused firmly.
If Daphne was having a date with a man, it was her responsibility to come and find him.
Knowing that Charles couldn't let go of his pride, Austin provided him with a way out, "Mr. Winston came all the way from Gedser to our Ivrea City. Shouldn't we pay him a visit?"
Charles hesitated.
"Let's go," Samuel patted his shoulder.
With a valid reason, Charles stood up and followed them.
The three of them were all exceptionally handsome, standing nearly six feet tall. If they appeared together anywhere else, it would surely cause a sensation.
Fortunately, this was a members-only restaurant, and it wasn't overly crowded.
Charles stood side by side with Samuel, leaving the task of knocking on the door to Austin.
Austin was used to this kind of thing and quickly received permission to enter after knocking. His narrow eyes swept over Daphne and Evan, and his smiling lips fell on Evan.
"Mr. Winston comes to Ivrea City without informing us; I must extend my warmest welcome."
"Mr. Hill, you're too kind," Evan wiped his mouth, a gentleman of courtesy.
"And this is..." Austin's gaze fell on Daphne, deliberately dragging out the tone.
Daphne fell silent.
In the two years of their marriage, Charles had never formally introduced her to his friends, although they had bumped into each other at several events.
She didn't believe that this person didn't know who she was.
Evan simply said two words, "A friend."
Austin said these words without any embarrassment, "I wonder if Mr. Winston minds if I bring two friends to join the table? It's also a good opportunity for everyone to get to know each other."
"Today is not convenient," Evan politely refused with a gentlemanly demeanor, smiling. "Another time, I will invite Mr. Hill for a meal."
This made him couldn't help but take a few more glances at Daphne. To be able to reject someone so decisively, Evan's cunning nature must have meant their relationship was not simple.
"How about this," Austin innocently wanted to watch the show. "We'll be in the neighboring private room across from you. After both of you finish dinner, let's gather together, shall we?"
This time, Evan didn't directly refuse, but looked towards Daphne.
