Chapter 567 Block and Delete
"You better figure out how to explain the research to your dad tonight," Elara thought for the millionth time that Willie had zero business sense.
Willie looked puzzled. "What are you talking about?"
"I just covered for you. When you get home, Harold's definitely gonna ask about the research," Elara said.
Willie started to deflect. "Who told you to say that? How am I supposed to explain this when I get home?"
"Then I'll call your dad back," Elara had seen this coming. "You can talk to him again. If it goes south, he might just show up at your office with his secretary."
That would be a disaster!
Willie realized if Harold showed up, he'd be in deep trouble.
"Take me to Jesse's place, and then follow my plan. I'll help you explain it to your dad tonight," Elara had it all figured out.
Willie, out of options, followed Elara's instructions and drove her back.
Jesse was still at home.
He'd been waiting for an hour, and Elara hadn't returned, making him worry something had happened.
She hadn't replied to his messages either.
After some thought, Jesse opened Elara's contact on his phone. Just as he hesitated to call, there was a knock on the door.
Distracted, he got up and opened the door with a cold expression.
Seeing Elara and Willie standing there, Jesse paused, pursed his lips, and asked, "Didn't I record your fingerprint?"
"This is your place, and I brought someone with me," Elara replied, keeping her distance. "It's better to knock."
Jesse tightened his grip on the doorknob.
Elara asked, "Can I come in?"
"You can," Jesse said seriously, glancing at Willie, "He can't."
"You wait here. I'll pack my things and go back with you," Elara told Willie.
Willie nodded, "Okay."
"Go back," Jesse said coldly, not wanting to see Willie, "I'll take her once she's done packing."
Willie looked at Elara.
Elara gave Willie a look, signaling him to leave.
Willie got the hint and said, "I'll wait for you at home. We'll get the marriage certificate first thing in the morning."
Elara replied, "Okay."
After that, Willie left.
Jesse shut the door without hesitation.
Jesse wanted to talk to Elara, but when he turned around, she was already packing. He walked further in and saw her gathering her things.
"Can we talk?" Jesse still thought Elara's sudden decision to get married was too rushed.
Elara stopped packing, her face no longer lively. "What do you want to talk about?"
Jesse pointed outside and then walked out.
Elara followed him out.
Jesse made a fresh juice for Elara and handed it to her before sitting down seriously. "I know you're mad at me, but even if you're really angry, you shouldn't rush into marrying Willie."
"It's none of your business," Elara snapped, hearing his tone.
"It is my business. We're friends," Jesse wanted to have a real conversation. "I can't watch you make a mistake."
Elara's eyes flickered with other emotions, and she spoke coldly, "The last thing I need is friends."
"You know better than anyone what kind of guy Willie is. He changes girlfriends like socks," Jesse said, having investigated Willie and feeling even more worried. "If you marry him, you won't be happy."
Elara shot back, "The person I like doesn't like me. What's the point of happiness?"
Jesse was speechless.
"Yeah, Willie's a player, and I know he won't love me after we get married," Elara continued, "But that doesn't matter because I won't love him either."
"If there's no love, you shouldn't be together. Marriage should be happy," Jesse tried to reason with her.
Elara really wanted to punch him. She took a deep breath, not wanting to continue the conversation, "I've already decided."
"There are plenty of great people out there. You don't need to rush into marriage," Jesse tried a different approach. "Wait patiently, and you'll eventually find someone who loves you."
"I waited ten years with no result," Elara's gaze met Jesse's, her emotions complicated. "I don't want to wait another ten years for the next one."
After saying this, Elara stood up and went back to her room to continue packing.
Jesse felt like his heart had been hit by a sledgehammer, feeling both pained and conflicted.
"By the way," Elara came out again.
Jesse instinctively looked at her.
Elara's gaze fell on Jesse's phone on the table, her eyes filled with complex emotions. "Please block me on my phone, Facebook, and all other contacts."
"Why?" Jesse didn't understand.
"If you don't block me, I'll think you like me too," Elara's words were half-true, but they still hurt. "Every time I hear a notification, I'll instinctively think it's your message."
Jesse's hands at his sides paused.
Elara continued, "I don't want to give myself hope, nor do I want to live in constant anxiety."
"Does it have to be this way?" Jesse felt heartache for the first time.
At this moment, his heart felt heavy, as if a sharp, barbed knife had pierced it and then been pulled out.
"If you're willing to be with me, keep it. If not, please block and delete me," Elara insisted seriously, looking at him.
She couldn't bring herself to block Jesse.
No matter how angry she was, she couldn't block him.
Jesse pursed his lips and, after a while, replied, "Got it."
After speaking, he picked up his phone and blocked Elara. She was right; if he couldn't be with her for life, he shouldn't give her false hope.
After doing this, the phone in his hand felt incredibly heavy. Jesse looked at her with a complex expression and uttered in his usual cold tone, "I've blocked you."
He really blocked her.
"Got it," Elara suppressed her emotions and didn't look at him again.
If she kept looking, she would be infuriated.
Ten minutes later, Elara was holed up in her room.
She seemed to be packing, but in reality, she was staring angrily at the unsent messages on her phone.
Feeling indignant, she typed some angry messages to Jesse, knowing they wouldn't go through, but she couldn't help it.
As expected, the messages failed to send.
Just as she was about to exit the screen, a friend request popped up. The profile picture was a cartoon boy, and the name was just a dot.
Elara frowned and accepted the request, asking: [Who are you?]
