Chapter 190 Trouble Arises

But just because Daphne kept silent didn't mean Austin didn't want to talk. When she tried to ignore him, he stepped forward to intercept her. “Can we talk?” he asked.

"About what?" Daphne always had an indifferent demeanor towards everyone except Charles.

"Daisy," Austin uttered the name with thin lips.

He’d turned the world upside down looking for her, scouring every place in Gedser he could think of. But he couldn’t find her, not even a trace or a hint of where she might be.

In that moment, Daphne realized an old adage, ‘birds of a feather flock together’. Both Charles and Austin were jerks.

"I’ve looked and haven’t found her," Austin said, surprisingly calm, yet inside, he was furious enough to want to lash out at Daphne. “I want to know where she is now.”

"I don’t know," Daphne replied curtly.

Austin’s barely contained anger was triggered, “Don’t test my patience.”

"What if I do?" Daphne was also seething and had no outlet for her frustration. "What are you going to do? Hit me?"

Austin was at a loss for words. He just didn’t get it.

Why did Charles pick such a formidable ex-wife? It left him, a grown man, speechless and unable to respond!

‘Embarrassing!’

"I don’t hit women," Austin hastily explained, "I’m just asking about Daisy's whereabouts. She is my wife; I have the right to know where she is."

"And then what?" Daphne challenged.

"You must be hiding her somewhere," Austin was convinced Daphne was up to something.

Daphne had no intention of telling him and was not about to reveal too much. "Daisy is a person, not an object. I've not hidden her," she said.

"Then why did she disappeared?" Austin's emotions escalated.

"That’s something you should be asking yourself," Daphne threw back at him. "Why did she leave Ivrea City? Don't you have any idea?"

"You must have influenced her," Austin stubbornly believed that to be the case.

He just wanted to make sure Daisy was all right and to have a serious talk with her. At the very least, he needed to let her know the risks involved if she insisted on having the child.

Daphne couldn't be bothered to speak with him anymore. She turned to leave, not even stopping for the restroom.

Austin blocked her path again, his eyes stubborn. "You have to tell me where Daisy is today, otherwise..." he threatened.

"Otherwise, what?" Daphne shot back at him.

Daisy needed to rest and take care of the pregnancy. If she really told Austin, Daisy wouldn't have a day of peace afterward.

Any excessive emotion or another one of Austin's reckless actions would cause injury to Daisy, and Daphne wouldn't let that happen.

"Do you think because you're Miss Murphy, from the Murphy family, I wouldn't dare touch you?" Austin suddenly changed the topic, a hint of coldness in his eyes.

He had only found out about her identity that evening. He could never have imagined that this fearless fighter was the older sister of the second young miss of the Murphy Group.

‘It was utterly absurd!’ he thought.

Daphne didn't give an inch and retorted, "Yes."

That infuriated Austin. But what she said wasn't wrong; he really couldn't do anything to her. He couldn't fight or outsmart her. Now he couldn't even match her family’s status!

"If you want to see her, wait a few more months," Daphne said, thinking of Daisy's previous mention of divorce. "She'll contact you."

Normally, during a pregnancy, the man can't initiate a divorce, but the woman can.

Based on the fact that Austin had pressured Daisy to have an abortion, if she filed for divorce, it would be an assured victory.

Austin hadn't even thought about divorce. After hearing Daphne's words, he just asked, "She's willing to see me?"

"She needs some time to think and recover," Daphne didn't elaborate.

Upon hearing this, Austin automatically interpreted it to mean that what he had previously done had been too much of a psychological blow, and she wasn't ready to make contact yet.

Thinking this, his worried heart felt somewhat relieved. If Daisy was willing to see him, he could wait a while.

"Take care of her during this time," Austin's gaze settled on her. "If there's anything she needs, just tell me."

"There's nothing," Daphne said and then shoved past him and walked away.

If possible, she wanted to say, "My only request is that you don’t disturb Daisy's life."

But she knew that if she did say that, then Austin might start an argument right there and then. Handling Charles was draining enough; she didn’t want to deal with another.

Austin watched her leave, only taking out his phone to look at his WhatsApp conversation with Daisy once her figure had disappeared down the corridor.

During this time, every message sent had a red exclamation mark beside it. He couldn't figure out how he and Daisy had gotten to this point. Things hadn't been this bad before.

After leaving, Daphne headed to the hotel's restroom on the second floor. She had made up her mind not to visit Ivrea City again, even if it meant interacting with Marcus online as much as possible.

She was now divorced from Charles. Legally, this meant she was no longer related to Charles's family. Contemplating this, she exhaled heavily and went to the sink to wash her hands. After trying several automatic faucets that produced no water, she moved to a manual one.

To her surprise, as soon as she touched the faucet, a huge burst of water sprayed out, soaking her clothes. If she hadn't dodged quickly, she would have been completely drenched.

She mentioned the issue to a hotel staff member.
"My apologies, ma'am, for the inconvenience," the hotel employee responded and immediately arranged for someone to address the problem. They expressed their apologies to her.

Daphne brushed it off with a "no problem." The employee then escorted her to a room to dry her hair. Seeing that her clothes were wet, they even brought her a brand-new outfit to change into and offered to dry her jacket, which she would need the next day. Daphne agreed and handed it over to them.

Once the staff member left, Daphne’s usually calm eyes grew intense. It was highly unlikely that all the faucets in a high-end hotel would malfunction, especially on the day of a birthday banquet. The only explanation was that someone had done this deliberately.

As she mulled over this, a light fragrance wafted through the air, enticing her to sniff more to identify the scent. She was searching for its origin when the partially closed door was pushed open, and Charles’s figure appeared in the doorway.

Seeing him made her frown instinctively.

Charles walked into the room, his expression not much different from usual. “Are you hurt anywhere?” he asked.

Daphne was puzzled. Hurt?

“What injury?” she queried.

“The staff told me you had fallen, and your wound was somewhat severe," Charles replied, having come immediately upon hearing the news.

Daphne paused, suddenly realizing what was happening.

She was about to tell him he had been misled when she saw a figure in black, wearing a black mask and hat, shut the door that Charles had opened.

With a loud "bang!", the sound alerted Charles to look back.

In the flash of a moment, he too sensed something amiss and asked, "Are you all right?"

"It's nothing." Daphne remained very calm.

After receiving this response from her, Charles felt reassured. He turned back to try the door again.

Daphne watched the door intently.
