Chapter 638 Did You Catch My Vanity?

"I don't know, we've been together since we were kids. It's like we're family," Daphne said casually. "Just like Sierra proposing to you."

Daphne couldn't picture Evan proposing to her. Even if he did, she'd just think he was practicing.

"Has he never liked a girl?" Benjamin asked, curious.

"Nope," Daphne said confidently. "Even though a lot of people liked Evan, he was always busy with school and learning how to run the company. He barely had any free time."

Evan hardly had any downtime during the holidays, let alone enough to date or catch feelings for someone.

Benjamin hugged her a bit tighter, feeling emotional. If he hadn't met Daphne, he'd probably be single forever.

"Mom!" Diana ran over, holding the tablet Louis usually played with. "Elara sent us these clothes. Do they look good on Louis and me?"

Daphne glanced at the screen, patted her head, and said, "They look great."

Jesse had just proposed to Elara, and the wedding date was set. It all happened so fast that Daphne was still processing it.

"Elara and Jesse are coming to pick us up to try on clothes later," Diana said, her eyes wide and bright. "Did they tell you and Dad?"

"Yeah," Daphne's voice softened. "When you go, listen to Jesse and Elara, okay? Don't be naughty."

Diana nodded obediently.

A little while later, Jesse and Elara showed up and, after a quick hello, took Louis and Diana with them.

Watching them get ready for the big wedding, Benjamin asked Daphne, "Do you want another big wedding?"

"Nah," Daphne said. She still preferred things simple and quiet.

When Diana and Louis grew up, Daphne wanted to find a peaceful place to retire. She liked the tranquility of the mountains more than the city's hustle and bustle.

An hour later, Louis and Diana were trying on clothes at a custom shop. Even though the clothes were made to their measurements, kids grow fast, so there was a worry they might be too small. Luckily, they fit just right.

Seeing Louis's serious face in the mirror, Diana poked his cheek. "Louis, don't be so serious. You're the ring bearer, and I'm the flower girl. We should be happy, not grumpy."

"It's not showtime yet. No need to be cute," Louis said.

Diana sighed like a little adult. "When you grow up, you'll be the one who worries Mom and Dad the most."

Louis wondered where she got that idea.

"Just look at Evan's parents," Diana said.

Louis got it. She was saying he'd end up being a bachelor in the future.

"Not everyone thinks about silly stuff like you," Louis replied, sounding way older than his age. "The adult world isn't as simple as you think."

Louis knew that having power, good looks, wealth, good character, and excellence always drew admiration, even if it was unspoken. But he didn't need to worry about those things right now.

"So, how do you like it?" Elara asked after Louis and Diana had been checking themselves out in the mirror for a bit. "Are you happy with it?"

They both answered together, "Yep, happy."

"Any changes needed?" Elara asked again.

They both shook their heads.

With the outfits confirmed, Elara felt relieved.

Diana turned around and grabbed Elara's hand, looking up at her. "Elara, can I ask you something?"

"Sure," Elara squatted down to her level, smiling gently.

"If you and Jesse have a baby someday, and it's a girl, can you introduce her to Louis first?" Diana always thought about finding friends for Louis.

Elara glanced at Louis and smiled, "Of course."

Diana's eyes sparkled with joy. "Really?"

"Absolutely," Elara said warmly.

"Don't listen to Diana's silly ideas," Louis cut in. "If there's nothing else, I'll take her home now."

"Not staying for dinner?" Elara was surprised they were in such a rush.

"Diana hasn't finished the homework she got for playing too much yesterday," Louis said firmly. "We won't stay for dinner today."

Elara and Jesse exchanged a look and had no choice but to send them back.

In the car, Elara looked at Jesse driving, a smile on her lips. "Jesse."

"Yeah?" Jesse responded naturally.

"We're getting married soon."

"Yep."

"Are you happy?"

"Yeah, I'm happy," Jesse said seriously.

Elara didn't mind his unromantic and straightforward answer; she knew that was just how he was.

"You never told me what happened when you were abroad," Jesse said, remembering something. "What did Evelyn mean by male classmates?"

Jesse had been thinking about it for a while but didn't want to dig without Elara's okay.

Elara paused, not expecting him to still be hung up on it.

"Did someone bother you?" Jesse asked.

"I'll tell you when we get home," Elara said, knowing Jesse would keep overthinking otherwise.

Evelyn was right; it was better to clear things up before the wedding. It wasn't that she doubted Jesse's trust in her; she just didn't want him to worry.

Jesse agreed and drove home.

Once they got home, Jesse had her sit on the couch while he pulled up a chair to sit across from her, waiting for her to talk.

"It's really nothing major," Elara started, knowing Jesse wouldn't let it go. She pretended to be a bit vain. "You know I'm good-looking, whether abroad or here, there are always admirers."

"Yeah," Jesse nodded seriously.

Elara was amused by his serious look.

Jesse wondered what was funny.

"Didn't you catch that I was being vain?" Elara asked.

Jesse shook his head, still earnest. "You are indeed excellent, good-looking, highly educated, smart, and very kind."
