Chapter 573 I Don't Know What He's Worried About
"These three are the deliveries," Autumn said, keeping a straight face.
Jesse gave them a once-over. Were these guys the deliveries?
Not wanting to waste time, Autumn pulled out her phone and called Elara, letting her know they had arrived.
Elara opened the door right away.
Seeing Jesse in the way, she nudged him aside and invited them in, "Come on in, guys."
"Hold up," Jesse quickly stopped them.
Everyone turned to look at him.
Jesse eyed the three handsome men and then said to Autumn, "You can go in, but they can't."
"Why not?"
"Elara, isn't your bodyguard being a bit much?"
"Seriously!"
The three men chimed in.
Jesse frowned and asked Elara, "Have you hung out with them before?"
"Yeah," Elara replied casually, trying to make Jesse misunderstand, "Every time I go out with Autumn, these three are usually there."
These three were Elara's cousin and Autumn's two cousins. They'd all grown up together, and Elara had asked them to play along.
"Don't mind him; he's been a bit off lately," Elara said, blocking Jesse with her body and making way for the four, "By the way, did you bring the drinks?"
"They're on the way," Autumn replied.
Just as she finished, someone came in with the drinks.
Seeing the group enter noisily with the drinks, Jesse frowned.
Jesse grabbed Elara, who was about to go in, and pulled her close, asking, "Why did you call them here?"
"Today I'm in a bad mood, so of course I called them to come drink," Elara answered naturally, though she felt a bit nervous being so close to him, "You should go back; we're going to have our fun."
"What kind of fun?" Jesse asked.
"Haven't decided yet," Elara said, unable to think of anything fun at the moment. "We'll figure it out after we drink."
Feeling emotional, Jesse remained silent for a while before asking, "Are you sure you want to drink?"
"Yes," Elara nodded.
Jesse let her go and allowed her to go in.
What did that mean?
"Aren't you going in to drink?" Jesse put her coat back on her, seeming like a different person. "Why aren't you going in?"
Elara didn't understand Jesse's sudden change but still went in, determined to play her part.
Ten minutes later, the room was eerily quiet.
The five of them sat around a low table, while Jesse stood not far away, staring at them intently.
Autumn couldn't handle the cold pressure and gave Elara a look, asking what was going on.
Elara replied with her eyes, signaling to ignore him.
Autumn frowned, expressing with her gaze that it was hard to ignore his presence.
The three men nodded in agreement.
Elara pursed her lips, adjusted her emotions, and said to Jesse, "Can you stop disturbing us? Please leave."
"Don't mind me," Jesse insisted on staying.
What if they got drunk and these guys tried something?
"I don't want to mind you, but your presence is seriously affecting our gathering," Elara spoke directly, her tone calm, "If you don't leave, I'll call security."
Jesse responded, "I didn't say anything."
"If the person you like is standing right in front of you, can you just act like you don't care?" Elara asked him.
Jesse was speechless.
Elara made her words sharp and to the point, "You won't marry me, but you keep showing up. Do you want me never to forget you?"
"No," Jesse replied.
"Then leave," Elara snapped, "Don't let me see you."
Jesse stayed silent.
The room was thick with tension.
After a moment, Jesse's gaze shifted to the three guys, his voice cold, "You guys, come with me."
The three wanted to refuse, but Jesse's icy demeanor made them swallow their words. They exchanged glances and reluctantly agreed, "Elara, we're out."
Before Elara and Autumn could react, the three quickly bolted.
"I'll be right outside," Jesse said as he left, trying to reassure her, "Call me if you need anything."
Elara downed her drink, feeling a swirl of emotions.
Once the door closed, Autumn commented thoughtfully, "He seems to really care about you."
"But he rejected me," Elara poured herself another glass of fruit wine, rubbing the glass as she spoke earnestly, "I've confessed to him so many times, but he still doesn't want to be with me. I don't know what he's worried about."
"Is he insecure?" Autumn speculated, "When there's a big difference in family background, guys can feel insecure."
"Insecure? He's the CEO of HorizonTech Group and holds shares in the company," Elara said slowly. "His annual dividends from HorizonTech Group are worth more than the entire Gonzalez Group's profits."
"Maybe he's impotent?" Autumn guessed wildly.
"That shouldn't be the case," Elara refuted.
That time when she had pinned Jesse down on the couch and kissed him, she had felt a slight reaction from him.
It couldn't have been that he was impotent.
"Could it be a terminal illness?" Autumn guessed again.
"You sound just like Willie," Elara sighed, a bit helpless. "As far as I know, HorizonTech Group provides free health check-ups for employees every six months. If he had a terminal illness, he would have been treated by now."
Daphne and Richard had a good relationship.
Elara should have known about Jesse's health status.
"If it's not family reasons or health reasons, then there's only one possibility left," Autumn pondered.
Elara asked, "What?"
Autumn continued, "He doesn't like you."
Elara retorted, "Impossible."
She could guarantee that.
After experiencing so much, she was 100% sure Jesse liked her.
"Then test if he's impotent later," Autumn suggested to Elara, "I'll pretend I have something at home and leave, and you act drunk and seduce him."
Elara pursed her lips, feeling a bit tempted. "Should I do that?"
"Yes," Autumn answered firmly.
"Okay," Elara agreed quickly, a hint of emotion flashing in her eyes.
They continued drinking and chatting for a while.
It seemed like they drank a lot, but neither of them was actually drunk, as the fruit wine had a low alcohol content.
Half an hour later, Autumn saw that it was about time and gave Elara a look before taking her phone and leaving the room.
