Chapter 260 If Charles Dies, I'll Let You Go

Michael and Nina's eyes locked onto Daphne.

Daphne's face stayed blank; she wouldn't show any cracks until the very end.

"Or maybe it's her," Kayla said, pointing at Nina with a shrug. "If you still don't buy it, maybe it's me."

Michael chuckled. "You really want your brother dead?"

"I already told you," Kayla shot back. "You're the one who doesn't believe me."

Michael stared at her.

Kayla started arguing, the fear in her heart fading. "Someone I've never seen or heard of—how do you expect me to say anything? Just kill me, too; maybe that'll save me."

"You want to die that badly?" Michael's voice dragged as he lazily pinched her chin.

Kayla's heart pounded. "You're the one who wants me dead."

"If you don't know, then forget it. Why get so angry?" Michael let go of her chin and gently pulled her onto his lap. "How could I not believe you?"

Kayla didn't react. She knew all about his mood swings.

He was a madman.

"As long as you're obedient, your brother will be fine." Michael gently tucked her hair behind her ear.

Kayla's body trembled, her back slick with cold sweat.

Daphne watched. She knew Michael's gentleness was a sham; he was checking for a hidden earpiece.

He was meticulous to the extreme.

"Kayla," Michael said, his voice oddly tender.

Kayla felt a chill deep in her bones.

Michael forced her to look at him. "Are you mad at me?"

Kayla replied, "I wouldn't dare."

"How about I let you bite me to vent your anger?" Michael coaxed.

To an outsider, he might seem gentle, like he knew how to care for women.

But Kayla only felt fear. She knew how unpredictable Michael could be.

"I'm thinking of your safety." Michael's long fingers pinched her waist, his smile indulgent. "K is not a good person. If you get involved with her, you'll die a horrible death."

Kayla thought, 'I'd die a horrible death at your hands.'

Michael counted her fingers. "Your grandma is old and in pain. I'm doing this to ease her suffering. Do you understand my good intentions?"

Kayla's heart trembled; the image she had just seen resurfaced in her mind. One day, she would tear him to pieces. She would avenge her grandma!

"Do you understand?" Michael saw her emotions slipping and pinched her.

Kayla's back went cold; she forced herself to say, "I understand."

"Good girl," Michael said, satisfied.

Nina saw that Kayla was scared enough and said to Michael, "Why are you so twisted? Why are you scaring women like this?"

"I like it, none of your business," Michael drawled. "You just need to find K."

"I can't find her." Only Nina dared to talk to him like this. She didn't forget to tell Kayla, "Your grandma is fine. He was lying to you."

"What?" Kayla was stunned.

"That picture was faked by someone he hired earlier," Nina revealed. Michael didn't stop her. "Your grandma is alive and well."

Kayla suddenly felt a wave of fear.

Michael was truly terrifying.

That picture looked so real, with no signs of forgery, yet it was fake. If she had betrayed Daphne, she would've done something unforgivable again.

She glanced at Nina but kept Daphne in her peripheral vision. Turns out, she kept her promise.

"Is what she said true?" Kayla still sought confirmation from Michael. "My grandma isn't dead, right?"

"Do you think I'm someone who kills indiscriminately?" Michael poured a glass of wine, every move exuding gentlemanly elegance.

Kayla thought, 'Yes.' But she could only go along with him. "No."

Michael's smile didn't reach his eyes, his gentleness devoid of warmth. He was a gentleman yet like a madman. She didn't dare defy him or make him unhappy.

All the terrifying experiences he had put her through made her fearful.

Michael didn't expose her lie, sipping his wine lightly. It was good that she feared him. If she feared him, she wouldn't run away and would obediently stay by his side.

After some time, Michael took out a tablet. Seeing Charles sitting on the beach wearing only a shirt, a surge of unknown emotion rose within him.

Charles, this was what you owe. You would repay it slowly.

"Ms. Murphy," Michael handed the tablet to Daphne. "Look at your ex-husband. Don't you think he looks miserable?"

Daphne saw it. In the dark environment, Charles sat on the beach, the icy cold sea breeze blowing on him, making him look cold even through the screen.

He was so stubborn. Why didn't he believe her? He didn't have to suffer this.

"What grudge do you have against him?" This was the second time Daphne asked him.

"He took away the person I liked the most, you, and didn't cherish you," Michael said slowly. "What kind of grudge do you call that?"

Daphne knew there wasn't a word of truth in his mouth. "If you hadn't sent Kayla to find him, would any of this have happened?"

"I just sent Kayla to test him. Who knew he would really divorce you for her," Michael spoke as if telling a story. "Such a fickle man. Should he be thrown into the sea or have his heart cut out?"

"Whatever happens to him has nothing to do with me," Daphne replied indifferently. "I just want to know when you'll let me go."

"When he dies," Michael said seriously. "When Charles dies, I'll let you go."

Daphne frowned slightly.

About half an hour later, Daphne confirmed that the ship was heading to Butterfly Island. While Nina and Michael weren't paying attention, she pressed a tiny device she had hidden earlier.

The device had three buttons: one for abroad, two for domestic, and three for no fixed location.

She pressed two. Butterfly Island was domestic.

After pressing it, she sat in her chair as before, looking at the scenery outside the ship.

The message was sent, but Butterfly Island was too remote; no one went there.

If Emma and the others followed her tracking signal, they would easily be discovered by Michael's subordinates. She had to inform them of the location in advance.
