Chapter 458 Busy Loving Me
The organization had a bunch of top-tier squads, and Benjamin was just one of 'em. He was sure they could win.
Laird, on the other hand, felt a bit bummed and still wanted to see him in action. "Think your replacement can take me down?"
"Think I can take you down?" Benjamin shot back, his eyes full of confidence as he stared at Laird. "His skills are just as good as mine."
"You're really not going?"
"Nope."
"Why not?"
"My crew doesn't just rely on me to compete," Benjamin laid it out straight.
The organization was solid and wouldn't lose the competition. But if they needed him back on the field, he'd jump in without a second thought.
"Are you just not wanting to leave your girl?" Laird guessed, glancing at Daphne. "Scared she'll be bummed if you go?"
"I'm scared you'll cry if you lose," Benjamin's comeback was sharp, his deep voice serious. "Who's the one cursing me every year after losing?"
Laird thought to himself, it wasn't cursing. It was a straight-up challenge.
"Don't go snatching my people again," Benjamin handed the documents back, his tone firm. "I'll let it slide this time, but next time, I won't be so nice."
"Isn't that a bit low? You take my card and still think you are going easy on me?"
"It's called compensation for my mental stress."
Laird knew what kind of guy Benjamin was, so he wisely chose not to push it.
Laird knew if he argued, he'd be the one ending up in tears.
Benjamin grabbed Daphne's hand and stood up, still fiddling with the black card Laird had given him. "We'll be hanging around for a few more days. I'll have someone return the card when we leave."
Laird was pissed, but he knew he was in the wrong, so he had to suck it up.
After a bit, Daphne and Benjamin took off.
Back in the car, the driver turned to Benjamin and Daphne, "Mr. Reynolds, Mrs. Reynolds."
Daphne was curious about who this guy was.
"He's retired like me, top-notch skills. Goes by Jon," Benjamin introduced him to Daphne. "There are plenty like him. They're all at the base."
"Well..." Daphne hesitated.
She wasn't sure if she should ask, it seemed kinda complicated.
"The base and its members are legit, approved by the organization," Benjamin explained, knowing what she was thinking. "I set up various training for them, and if there are missions, they back up the organization's people."
At the base, there was total freedom. Personal stuff could be handled with leave, and training was there to keep everyone in shape.
The main reason, of course, was that his boss didn't want him to waste his skills and gave him something to do, even asking him to scout for potential talents.
"That's good," Daphne felt relieved right away.
"It's rare for us to be here; let's take a stroll," Benjamin handed her the schedule and told her his plan. "See if it clashes with your time. If it does, we can tweak it."
Looking at the detailed schedule, Daphne felt all warm inside.
She suddenly remembered that Benjamin needed approval to go abroad in the past two years, which was a real hassle.
"No problem," Daphne said, handing the schedule back to him.
Since it was a rare chance to be here, she figured it was better to hang out with Benjamin first. She could pick the ring later.
After getting her okay, Benjamin gave her a day to prep, knowing she had stuff to handle. Since she’d be tagging along with him later, he left today open for her.
With her newfound freedom, Daphne immediately went to take care of her business. Even though the main reason for coming here was the ring, she had to honor Benjamin's invite.
As soon as Benjamin dropped her off at the hotel, another guy hopped into the car, who was the sniper from earlier, Jeremy Peterson.
"Mr. Reynolds."
"Yeah?"
"Was that really K just now?" Jeremy asked, his tanned face full of energy.
Jon was curious too.
They usually weren't nosy, but when something interesting popped up, they couldn't help it.
Benjamin's lips pressed into a thin line, his voice a bit raised. "Yeah."
"Your girlfriend?"
"Yep."
"Can we meet and chat with her?" Jeremy asked directly, full of curiosity. "She's my idol."
"Mine, too," Jon chimed in.
Benjamin felt pretty pleased. His girlfriend was so awesome; it was hard not to be proud.
"I remember some folks saying their idol was me when they joined the organization." Benjamin's gaze swept over them lazily. "How did that change in less than ten years?"
"In the organization, you're the idol, but online, it's K." Jeremy grinned, looking totally different from his serious mission mode. "You can ask anyone around. They almost all admire the King of Hackers."
She was a legend online, coming and going without a trace. She could dig up any info she wanted.
Most importantly, besides being the King of Hackers, she also had top-notch skills in combat, shooting, and recon.
And she was such a beautiful girl. If she weren't Benjamin's, they’d all be lining up to date her!
"You really wanna meet her?"
"Yeah."
"Go buy a pillow and take a nap," Benjamin said in his usual tone. "You'll see her in your dreams."
Did he have to be so stingy? They just wanted to meet his girlfriend.
"She's super busy. No time to chat with you," Benjamin said, seeing their looks. "If you really need something from her, I can pass the message."
Jeremy and Jon exchanged a glance, both thinking the same thing.
'How busy must she be for Benjamin to say she's busy?'
Out of curiosity, Jeremy asked, "Busy with what?"
"Busy loving me." Benjamin's lips curved into a handsome smile, his deep voice carrying a unique charm.
The two fell silent. How had they never noticed Benjamin was so good at showing off his love?
"Don't bother her for anything." Benjamin knew Daphne's mindset and declined for her. "She's just Daphne, my girlfriend, nothing more."
The two wisely shut up.
From the conversation just now, they had every reason to believe Benjamin was waiting for them to ask that question, just to show off.
"Does your leader know you love showing off your relationship?" they both asked in unison.
