Chapter 60 Besides your name, what else is true about you?

Rex hung up the phone, still smiling. He sat with his legs up in the private room and made another call casually, saying, "I've talked to him. He won't make Daphne apologize."

"Really?" Marcus asked, probing.

"Do you still doubt my capabilities?" Rex raised an eyebrow and smiled, his whole face exuding a handsome and mischievous charm. Hearing his words, Marcus was reassured.

But he wanted to know how Rex talked to Charles, and he was afraid that it wouldn't be so reassuring.

Of all the Lancelot family members, Rex was the one who truly understood Charles the most. He knew how to say things that would poke at his brother's sensitivity. Although he sometimes received reprimands, he never cared. Just like this time.

Charles had already figured out how to handle Rex when he returned. He put away his phone and intended to go inside to watch Daphne write her apology letter. However, for some reason, he felt uncomfortable at the thought that, doing so would only push Daphne further away from him.

And then there was Rex's suggestion to introduce a new man to her.

Daphne had been staring at him in the study for a while now. Why hadn't he left after the call? What was he planning to do? With him in this room, she couldn't concentrate on her work.

"Charles, once you're done with the call, please leave. I have things to do," she urged him to leave.

Going straight to the point, he heard her voice. Charles turned his head and saw the expression on Daphne's face. At this moment, she was like a prickly hedgehog, keeping people away.

He walked slowly towards her; his deep eyes fixed on her. "As long as you promise me that you won't target Kayla anymore, there's no need to apologize this time."

He didn't know why he was softening. He just didn't want these impeccably clean eyes to be filled with tears.

This time, she really doubted if Charles was sick, being so unpredictable. "Did you take the wrong medicine?"

"I'm not joking with you." Charles was as cold as ever, but there was more emotion in his heart than usual. "No matter what, we used to be husband and wife. You were fine before Kayla appeared, but I didn't expect you to become like this now."

Daphne retorted, "It's you who has changed."

"Daphne." Charles emphasized his tone, wondering why this woman had no sense of gratitude.

"Don't you feel that ever since Kayla returned, you have lost your basic judgment?" Daphne really liked this face, so she reminded him, "In the past, you would handle things calmly, with rational analysis. Now, you make decisions based only on your feelings."

Charles's gaze deepened, and a coolness appeared between his eyebrows. He only said, "If there are three people at the scene, A, B, and C, and C dies, isn't it normal for A to suspect that B killed him?"

"What if C was killed by a fourth person unrelated to the situation?" Daphne countered, knowing what he was implying. "B knows that they didn't do it, but they also didn't suspect A."

Just two simple sentences. They created a deadlock between the two. Daphne spoke earnestly to him, "I'm tired after these past twenty days, and I don't want to have any more disputes with you because of Kayla. Whether you believe it or not, I didn't do those things before." She was never a person who liked to argue.

Being forced into a situation, suspected, and questioned time and time again, anyone would grow tired of it. Charles also wanted to believe her words, and even when he saw her sincere face, his heart wavered.

But as soon as he thought about the series of changes she went through after he mentioned divorce, he couldn't bring himself to believe which words of hers were true and which were false.

They had been married for two years, and he didn't know about her acquaintance with Evan, her connection to the Murphy family, or the fact that she was a hidden hacking expert. With so many things hidden from him, how could he trust her?

"If you were still the person you used to be, I would believe you." He finally spoke, his words heavy, "But in these two years of marriage, have you ever been truly honest with me?"

She met his gaze head-on, saying, "Do you doubt my feelings for you?"

"Can't I doubt?" Charles truly had emotions now. Just thinking about how she had deceived him in everything from her past, he couldn't remain calm. "Besides the name Daphne, is there anything else about you that's real?"

"Go away." Daphne realized for the umpteenth time that Charles had lost his mind. No matter how calm and rational she tried to talk to him, he always managed to infuriate her. How could she have not noticed this potential in him before!

Charles thought she was feeling guilty, "If it weren't for the divorce, I wouldn't have known you were hiding so many secrets."

"I'm telling you to leave." Daphne's words grew colder.

"Daphne." Charles called her name and asked a question that infuriated Daphne, "I really want to know, all the kindness, care, and affection you've shown me in these two years, were they all fake?"

"You should ask yourself that." Daphne retorted, feeling the urge to pack up and leave overnight, "Besides my name being real, I am a genuine person. On the day we got married, I told you that you could help me and I could help you. I have never lied to you." She answered his questions directly.

She remained silent when it wasn't convenient to answer.

"How can you say that?" Charles' eyes grew colder, feeling that this person was full of lies. "Did you forget that you told me you were the daughter of the Murphy Group? And what happened? That's not a lie."

She indeed hadn't lied. The ones who deceived him were her dummy dad and Lydia. Moreover, it wasn't even considered deception. During that time, she played the role of protecting her sister.

Anyone who bullied Lydia, she would beat them up. "There's no need for an apology statement." Charles didn't want to say more to her and said something hurtful, "I don't want people to find out that I had a wife who was full of lies and jealousy."

After saying that, he left. He was angry at Daphne, but his grandfather adored her. If he forced this stubborn person to apologize, it would probably break her pride, and she would resent herself afterwards.

For the sake of his grandfather's reputation, he would let her go this time. But only this time. Daphne didn't know the many thoughts in his mind, so as she watched him leave from the second-floor corridor, she went downstairs as well.

After he closed the door, she decisively changed the password. When she returned to the study, she received a message from Kevin.

lab rat: “Daphne! When are you going to post that tweet? I've already written it, and I guarantee it will make the netizens rip Charles and Kayla to shreds!”

Anyone who dared to bully Daphne was simply underestimating her.

Daphne: “I'm not going to post it.”

lab rat: “??????”

He was completely bewildered. Why wouldn't she post it? His first instinct was to suspect that Charles had threatened Daphne. But upon further thought, wasn't this apology statement what Charles asked Daphne to post? What was going on?

Filled with questions, he called her and got straight to the point as soon as she answered, "Daphne, why aren't you posting it? Weren't we planning to expose Charles and Kayla's scandal?"
