Chapter 408 Well, Feeling Proud?

Benjamin went quiet. How the heck was he supposed to answer that? No way he could tell Daphne the truth—that he’d been planning for them to shack up for years.

"Benjamin," Daphne suddenly called out.

Hearing this, Benjamin snapped out of his thoughts and asked, "What's up?"

"Besides me, do you like anyone else? Even a secret crush counts." Daphne's mind suddenly cleared up because of what had happened earlier.

Benjamin didn’t hide it and replied straight up, "No."

Daphne took a wild guess. "So, you liked me four years ago?"

A person living alone wouldn’t usually bust through a wall to build a door. It was totally unreasonable unless there was a reason.

Benjamin's lips curved into a sly smile as he admitted it directly, "Well, are you feeling proud?"

"Really liked me four years ago?" Daphne asked again, still in disbelief.

"Yeah," Benjamin replied with a nod.

"Suddenly, I'm a bit worried about the future," Daphne apologized again.

Benjamin raised an eyebrow. Worried about the future? Knowing he had liked her for so many years, shouldn’t she be stoked?

"How did you manage to like me while being so strict with me?" Daphne asked curiously. "And you played tricks on me, making me train like crazy."

Except for Evan, all six of them had been schemed against by Benjamin. After being tricked once, they’d instinctively want to bolt when he was nice to them.

Benjamin looked at her nonchalantly without saying a word.

"So?" Daphne asked him.

"You can take it as my way of loving you," Benjamin said in a low and slow voice, the curve of his lips a bit wider.

Daphne replied, "Then you love a lot of people."

"Emma, Zoey, Sam, Dominic, Kevin," Daphne said while counting on her fingers. "If you really think about it, Sam and Kevin should be the ones you love the most."

These two were typically forgetful, falling for the same trick more than once, with predictable consequences.

"Jealous?" Benjamin teased, defusing it calmly.

Daphne paused, jealous of what?

"Don't worry. From now on, you're the only one for me," Benjamin said meaningfully.

Daphne pursed her lips. Why did she feel like Benjamin's "only one" had a hidden meaning? Was he planning to train her one-on-one?

"Oh, I remembered Lydia and my dad asked me to stay with them for a while." Daphne immediately found an excuse to slip away. "I gotta go."

Benjamin pulled Daphne back in one swift motion. She still wanted to escape.

Daphne was immediately scared.

Benjamin didn’t tease her further. Seeing that her previous bad mood had disappeared, he felt relieved.

He planted a light kiss on her lips, told her he'd go make dinner and that she should wait obediently, then let her go.

In this place, there was no need to go out for groceries. Whatever they wanted to eat, the freshest ingredients would be delivered.

During dinner, Daphne looked at Benjamin, who sat across from her, exuding elegance in every gesture. A thought suddenly popped into her head.

Should she propose to Benjamin?

Although it was usually the guy who proposed to the girl, Benjamin had been so good to her. If she didn’t reciprocate in some way, it wouldn’t feel right.

Once this thought emerged, her mind was filled with all sorts of strange proposal ideas.

So, when it was time to hit the sack, her brain was buzzing, and she just lay there, wide awake.

They say nighttime is when folks lose their usual cool. Daphne was no different.

At eleven, still tossing and turning, she shot a message in their group chat, asking if anyone was up.

Both replied right away, so Daphne called them.

"Don't you usually crash around ten?" Emma asked.

"Something up?" Zoey chimed in.

They knew how strict Daphne was with her schedule. Being up this late was totally out of character.

Daphne hesitated for a sec, then spilled her thoughts.

Emma and Zoey were both like, "What?"

Emma was the first to question, "Propose? For real?"

"Yeah." Daphne nodded.

Zoey went quiet. Even though she had slept last night, she had seen Benjamin's message in the group chat about proposing when she woke up.

Now Daphne was also thinking about proposing. If they both went ahead, wouldn't it be a clash?

As she mulled it over, Zoey suddenly had a lightbulb moment.

Since both were planning to propose, why not combine the two? This way, it would surprise both Daphne and Benjamin.

"When do you plan to pop the question to Benjamin?" Zoey asked.

"In a bit." Daphne thought it through and said, "Benjamin might only be seeing my good side now. Proposing now wouldn't be fair to him."

People had many sides. She hoped that when they got hitched, they’d know each other well enough. She didn’t want Benjamin to regret being with her later.

"That works." Emma was already brainstorming, saying, "When you decide to propose, let us know. Meanwhile, we'll help you scout for some killer proposal ideas."

"Okay."

Daphne didn’t notice anything off.

After hanging up, Zoey and Emma chatted privately.

As long as they knew when Daphne planned to propose to Benjamin, they could give Benjamin a heads-up, letting him propose back. They could also casually ask her what kind of proposal she liked.

This way, it would be foolproof.

After talking it out, Daphne felt a bit more at ease and finally got some sleep. On Monday morning, she went to work as usual.

Compared to the chill days here, things were more chaotic elsewhere.

Charles and Mark were currently abroad, chilling in a spacious and luxurious villa. Opposite them sat a beautiful and poised woman, Aubrey.

Charles crossed his legs, his cold demeanor fully on display as he said, "Ms. Smith, how long do you plan to keep running?"

"How did you know I was here?" Aubrey asked, her palms sweaty, her usual composure gone.

Aubrey had been hiding abroad for so long that even the people Luke and Blake sent couldn't find her.

But Charles had come straight to her.

Charles looked at her coldly without answering.

Aubrey was very uneasy. She had once admired Charles but also feared him. "Why are you here?"

"To take you back to face justice," Charles said, his thin lips parting as he enunciated each word clearly.

"What are you talking about?" Aubrey would never admit it, but her heart was pounding as she said, "You'd better leave quickly. You're not welcome here. If you don't go, I'll call the guards, and you won't be able to leave."

"You can try calling them." Charles's aura was icy, his eyes devoid of warmth.
