Chapter 646 Can We Have a Good Talk?
As for Charles, after leaving Richard, he went to the ICU.
Charles stood by the bed, looking down at the comatose Brian with his eyes closed. "Richard is taking this seriously now. What do you think he'll do if he finds out you lied to him?"
"Get angry." Brian, who had been in a coma, opened his eyes.
Brian's car accident was a setup, a carefully staged charade concocted with the help of Charles.
Even Daphne was intentionally leaked by the hospital to let Richard know about it through them.
Brian had predicted all of Richard's thoughts.
"I advise you to confess before he finalizes the surgery plan," Charles said, his eyes deep and his tone somewhat earnest. "Otherwise, the consequences might be worse than you imagine."
"I'm afraid he'll beat me up." Brian was already scared.
Brian had been thinking about this ever since he left Richard that day.
Brian didn't really want to deceive Richard or see him worried. He orchestrated the incident merely to compel Richard to confront his true feelings.
After all these years, Brian thought it was time for a little push.
"If you confess now, you might just get a punch in the face," Charles said seriously. "But if he finds out something's wrong when he checks on you tomorrow, he might really cripple you."
Brian felt a chill down his spine. It wasn't unimaginable.
Given Richard's temper, he might very well cripple him and then heal him afterward.
"He's in the room at the far right on the third floor," Charles told Brian, leaving the decision to him. "Think it over."
"Wait." Brian had made up his mind.
Charles paused and looked back at him.
Brian unwrapped the bandages on his body and stood up from the bed. "Thanks for this."
"No need, just settle the bill," Charles said before leaving.
Brian didn't say much more.
At midnight, Brian changed into his own clothes and went to find Richard.
Richard was still meticulously reviewing all of Brian's details to ensure nothing went wrong during the surgery.
A brief knock sounded.
Richard, thinking it was Charles, said without looking up, "Come in."
Brian quietly pushed the door open, his face still wearing a playful smile. But seeing Richard so focused, the words he had prepared got stuck in his throat.
Richard didn't look up and asked, "What's the matter?"
After he spoke, the room fell silent.
Brian walked towards Richard, feeling a sudden surge of guilt as he saw what Richard was doing.
"What is it..." Richard looked up, about to ask.
"Richard," Brian spoke up at that moment.
Richard's hand, holding a pen, froze. For a moment, he thought he was hallucinating. He had just heard Brian's voice.
"It's me." Brian stood very nervously beside Richard. "I'm Brian."
Richard froze and blanked out for two seconds when he saw Brian standing right in front of him, alive and well. His first thought was that he was hallucinating from lack of sleep; his second thought was that this person was real.
"I wasn't in a car accident." Brian pulled a chair over and sat in front of Richard, immediately grabbing both his hands to prevent a punch. "I just wanted to use this to make you see your own feelings."
Richard's expression suddenly darkened. The hands holding his were warm; this person was Brian.
"If you're angry, hit me. I promise I won't fight back." Brian guided Richard's hand to his own face.
"Is this fun for you?" Richard's aura was terrifyingly cold, his usually indifferent eyes filled with boundless chill.
Brian, like a child who had done something wrong, admitted, "It's not fun."
Richard stood up.
Brian immediately grabbed him. "But I promise, I didn't mean to deceive you. I just wanted you to realize your feelings sooner. You clearly like me and care about me, so why won't you admit it?"
"I hate lies." Richard shook off Brian's hand and was about to leave.
Brian blocked the door, speaking very earnestly. "I didn't really deceive you. The day I left your place, if I hadn't been lucky, I might have really died."
Richard's heart tightened.
"Not far from your house, there's an intersection. A car in my rearview mirror blocked my view," Brian described the dangerous moment to Richard. "Just as I signaled, a big truck suddenly appeared. I was scared out of my wits."
That intersection was a high-accident area due to its blind spots.
If Brian hadn't reacted quickly that day, he might have really died.
Richard wanted to scold Brian but found he couldn't get the words out.
It was a blessing Brian was okay. If something had really happened, he would regret.
"Let's have a proper talk, okay?" Brian's tone was completely different from when he spoke to others. "An open and honest talk, no hiding anything."
Richard pulled Brian aside by the shoulder, opened the door, grabbed his things, and left.
Brian immediately followed.
One was cold and distant, the other playful and smiling.
Seeing that Brian hadn't been hit, Charles raised an eyebrow in surprise.
Richard got into his car. Just as he started the engine, Brian slipped into the passenger seat, still smiling.
"Get out!" Richard was still somewhat upset about the deception.
Richard was deeply concerned, his thoughts consumed with finding ways to aid in Brian's recovery. He felt a pang of guilt for the harsh words he had uttered that day.
"I'm a bit scared to drive right now," Brian said, playing the weak card convincingly. "Do you really want me to get out?"
Richard glanced at Brian with a cold look but ultimately said nothing.
As Brian had said before, Richard was afraid Brian might not have reacted in time and really gotten into an accident.
"You were really worried about me, weren't you?" Brian, seeing that Richard wasn't kicking him out, dared to continue the conversation.
Richard stared straight ahead, not saying a word.
Brian moved a bit closer, continuing, "Can we both face our feelings honestly?"
Richard still didn't speak. At that moment, his mind was in turmoil.
Richard admitted he did have feelings for Brian now, but he couldn't ignore the past.
"I know what you're worried about and what you care about," Brian said seriously, word by word. "When we get home, can we have a proper talk?"
