Chapter 234 Does Your Captain Know About This?

"Why didn't anyone tell me?" Luke was very concerned about this.

He finally had a young person he particularly liked.

And yet, Daphne didn't tell him about such a big event as her wedding.

"I had a secret marriage." Daphne paused her chess move to reassure him. "Not only did you not know, but my grandfather and father didn't know either."

Luke was even more confused.

Who was so rude? He married Daphne and didn't even inform her elders.

This was too absurd!

"Who is this man?" Luke fetl indignant on Daphne's behalf. "I must teach him a good lesson!"

"It's over now. He and I are finished."

"No, you have to tell me, who is he?"

Daphne remained silent.

She didn't know how to say it.

She was aware of Charles and Luke's acquaintance and their somewhat familiar relationship.

If she mentioned it, it wouldn't sit well.

"Don't you trust me?" Luke genuinely wanted to stand up for Daphne. How could someone not cherish such a good girl?

Daphne rubbed the chess piece in her hand and finally said, "Charles."

"Who?"

"Charles," Daphne repeated calmly.

Luke was stunned. He couldn't make sense of it. Wasn't Charles known for being quite polite?

Unable to believe it, he inquired, "Charles, the current CEO of the Lancelot Group in Ivrea City?

"Yes." Daphne nodded.

"No, every time I encounter him, he is consistently polite and courteous. How could he..." Luke was perplexed.

Despite his romantic involvement with Daphne, Charles was an exemplary individual.

He displayed filial piety towards his elders and was benevolent towards his employees.

While he frequently teased Mark about bonuses, he never actually docked his pay."

Such a person left Luke bewildered.

But he also knew very well that Daphne wouldn't lie.

"I didn't tell him who my family was." Daphne explained, and it was indeed the case. "He wanted to meet my father, but I refused."

Luke was even more puzzled. "This..."

"Mr. Smith, it's your turn to move." Daphne changed the subject.

Luke had no mind for chess now; his head was full of Daphne's situation.

No wonder Charles approached him a few days ago, expressing concern about Aubrey's actions that were impacting Daphne. Initially, he believed Charles was worried due to the collaboration between the Lancelot and Murphy families.

However, he never anticipated their relationship to unfold in this manner!

Seeing Luke frowning and deep in thought, Daphne called out to him, "Mr. Smith?"

"May I ask why you got divorced?"

"Incompatibility."

Her simple answer made Luke understand.

There must had been a lot of things between Daphne and Charles; otherwise, how could they have ended up divorced?

Pondering this, Luke sighed quietly.

Over the next twenty minutes, he continued to mull over this topic, becoming so engrossed that he was distracted while playing chess.

He contemplated setting up Benjamin with Daphne, but he wasn't sure if Benjamin would be hesitant to engage with her given her past marriage.

While Luke appreciated Daphne's qualities, he couldn't predict Benjamin's thoughts on the matter.

The more he thought about it, the more worried Luke became!

"Mr. Smith," Daphne looked at the chessboard and spoke, "You should focus on the game first."

Luke glanced at her and made a move.

Suddenly, he had another question. "Does your captain know about this?"

Daphne was stunned for a moment, not quite understanding why Benjamin was brought up.

But despite her confusion, she answered, "He knows."

After Kevin found out, he gossiped about it with a few of them, so Benjamin naturally knew too.

Plus, with the previous incidents, he knew everything.

"He really knows?" Hope rekindled in Luke's eyes.

Daphne nodded. "Yes."

Her straightforward response immediately boosted Luke's mood, prompting him to play chess more earnestly.

Despite having few pieces remaining, Luke engaged in numerous moves with Daphne before ultimately losing.

"Let's play another round." Luke was now free of worries and in a good mood.

Daphne readily agreed.

While playing chess with Luke in the past, she had to focus completely.

However, in their recent game, Luke was so preoccupied that she won effortlessly.

Fortunately, in the second game, they both focused.

As a result, the game lasted over an hour, ending with Luke's victory.

Playing chess with the elderly was about having fun. Whether with Marcus or Luke, Daphne always tried to let them win. As long as the game was exciting, that was enough.

The second game ended.

Luke glanced at the time, 10:53 AM.

He frowned, wondering what was keeping Benjamin. It was nearly noon, and he had yet to come back.

Could he have been entangled in a chess match with those elderly gentlemen again?

Contemplating this scenario, he felt compelled to confront them. On such a crucial day, how could they be so unaware?

"Mr. Smith, do you have something to attend to?" Daphne saw him checking the time several times and was afraid of delaying his matters.

"I'm actually free," Luke replied vaguely, not wanting Daphne to suspect anything. "Someone mentioned they might come today, but they haven't shown up yet. I suppose they're not coming.."

"Shall I call and ask for you?" Daphne didn't suspect anything.

She certainly wouldn't have thought that Benjamin would be here.

After all, she thought he would return tomorrow.

"No need." Luke didn't want her to know about this in advance, so he changed the subject. "Did you come to see me today to discuss something?"

He noticed the bag she brought.

In the past, when she came specifically to play chess and keep him company, she never brought a bag.

She must have something to discuss.

Daphne knew Luke was observant, but at this moment, she didn't know how to start.

If she brought it up, it might ruin his good mood.

"Just say it, don't be polite with me." Luke genuinely cared for her.

Daphne hesitated.

Facing Blake, she might have directly handed over the documents and gotten to the point; but because she needed to talk to Luke now, she didn't know how to start.

Seeing her hesitation, Luke tentatively asked, "Do you need my help with something?"

"Sort of."

"Do you want to recommend someone to the military?"

"No."
