Chapter 542 Weirdly Competent
About five minutes in, Daphne felt something was off.
Kevin picked up on it too.
"Why aren't they attacking?" Kevin wondered aloud. "Are they setting up like we did earlier, waiting to take us out in one go?"
"No," Daphne said firmly.
She had made the defense system super tight from the start.
If they even tried to set up, her defense system would trigger an alarm and counterattack automatically.
"They haven't attacked," Daphne confirmed after a bit, her eyes as calm as ever. "They probably want to avoid the fight."
Kevin stopped what he was doing, looking confused. "Avoid the fight?"
The others overheard.
Royce immediately complained, "I can't believe they're actually exploiting the loophole."
"What do we do?" Efren started to worry, instinctively looking at Benjamin. "Are we really gonna send you over?"
"No rush," Benjamin said, his eyes on Daphne, who stayed calm the whole time.
His gut told him Daphne had a plan.
"How can we not be in a rush right now?" Efren couldn't stand the idea of Benjamin going to the other team. "If you go over, our team will lose a big time."
"If they really don't attack, this match won't be resolved within an hour," someone from the security department chimed in.
Efren and Royce frowned.
A moment later, Royce approached Daphne and asked quietly, "Can this match still go on?"
"Why do you ask?" Daphne looked puzzled.
"If they don't attack, do you still have a chance to win?" Royce glanced at her computer screen.
Daphne said one word, "Yes."
"Really?" Royce was skeptical.
Daphne nodded. "Yes."
"Alright," Royce still wasn't completely reassured, but he felt a bit better. "Good luck."
For Daphne, even though their main strategy was defense and they couldn't attack proactively, they could expand their defense perimeter. If the other side didn't attack, they'd be trapped within the defense circle.
As long as the defense system was set to attack any intruders, the other side would lose.
After all, the defense system's attack didn't count as their attack.
Time ticked by.
As Daphne and Kevin worked, Royce, Efren, and the others were on edge.
Even if they lost, they wouldn't blame Daphne's skills, but rather the other side's shameless tactics.
Initially, the other side planned to drag it out.
But as time went on, they noticed Daphne and Kevin were expanding the defense perimeter, pushing them into a tighter spot.
"Are we sure we don't need to make a move?"
"No need. As long as we hide well enough, even if we enter their defense circle, they can't do anything to us."
"True."
After discussing, they did nothing.
But what awaited them was a top-level attack from Daphne's defense system.
They overestimated their ability to hide and underestimated Daphne's skills.
In just over twenty minutes, the second round ended.
The other team lost!
"Alright," Daphne's hands left the keyboard, and she turned to look at them. "It's done."
Royce and the others were still a bit dazed. "We won?"
"Yes," Daphne nodded.
"Really?" Royce still felt complicated.
Daphne nodded again.
Royce couldn't quite put his feelings into words at that moment.
Just a second ago, he was stressing about how to get Benjamin back if he had to switch teams because of the other side exploiting the loophole.
But before he could even think of a solution, they had already won!
"Go back and get some rest," Benjamin said with a smile, knowing Daphne wouldn't lose. "Later, I'll let Royce give you guys an award."
"Okay." Daphne nodded, not arguing.
They didn't stick around and left with their teammates.
Whatever negotiations were going to happen between the two teams had nothing to do with her. The rest was up to Royce and Benjamin.
Benjamin watched them leave, then turned to the person next to him. "Daphne and Kevin helped you win despite the other side exploiting the loophole. Don't you think they deserve something?"
"Of course!" Royce was even more impressed with Daphne. "I'll discuss the rewards after I talk with Stephen and the others."
Benjamin insisted, "Don't be cheap."
Royce asked, "Do I seem like that kind of person?"
Benjamin nodded. "Yes."
In a good mood, Royce blurted out, "Write down what rewards you want me to give them, and I'll look at it later."
"Alright," Benjamin didn't hold back and walked out.
Royce gave him an extra glance.
Since when did Benjamin care so much about rewards?
Wasn't he always indifferent, leaving it up to others to decide?
"Don't you think Benjamin's been acting weird lately?" Royce asked, a bit amused.
Efren blurted out, "Hasn't he always been weird?"
"Really?" Royce was surprised.
"Yeah," Efren responded.
"In what way?" Royce asked further.
Efren explained, "Weirdly competent."
Efren stopped joking with Royce and urged him, "Let's not talk about him now. The bet is more important. Quickly call Stephen."
"Right, this is the most important thing," Royce immediately started negotiating with the other side.
As for Benjamin, after leaving, he chatted with Daphne and the others for a bit and then let them go back to rest.
During their rest time, they were free to do whatever they wanted.
Three days of vacation wasn't long. It flew by.
After that, Benjamin never went easy on them during training. He pushed them to the point where they didn't even want to move.
At first, they suffered but also enjoyed the results of their training.
But as more traps were set, every time they heard about training or saw Benjamin, they would be on high alert.
After all, if they weren't careful, they would be punished with frog jumps or weighted runs.
Later, under Benjamin's training and guidance, each of them became an outstanding member.
Although these events happened years ago, for Daphne, it felt like just yesterday.
When she woke up in the morning, looking at Benjamin holding her in his sleep, she was filled with deep emotions and reflections.
Back then, she never thought she would end up with Benjamin.
She had no idea he'd harbored feelings for her for so long, starting so early in their lives.
"What's wrong?" Benjamin opened his eyes and saw her thoughtful expression, his deep, lazy voice sounding very pleasant.
"Nothing, I just suddenly thought of the past," Daphne snuggled into his arms, feeling warm all over. "Even though so many years have passed, it still feels as clear as yesterday."
