Chapter 61 Grandfather, No Need to Force It

"We've talked about it again," Daphne replied, displaying a cooperation project between the two companies on the computer screen. "He said I don't need to apologize."

Kevin was instantly confused, "What does, him, not apologizing have to do with him exposing us?"

"I can't be bothered to deal with it, I'm tired of arguing," Daphne explained.

Charles wanted her to apologize, if she did, she would expose everything about them. But now, he's telling her not to apologize. If she continued to expose him on Twitter, given Charles' personality, he might not let it go.

It might be a small matter to get angry at her, but if it led to them not getting a divorce, he would go all out, and she would suffer a great loss. Charles was considered a legend in the business world. If he started targeting people close to her, she might not be able to handle it all.

"So we're just going to take this loss?" Kevin sympathized with her.

"Just treat him as an insignificant person," Daphne said, gradually calming down. "No need to pay attention."

Kevin agreed with her, before hanging up, he asked, "By the way, Daphne, Lydia keeps asking when you'll be back in Gedser City, and I told her to find you herself, but she doesn’t dare."

"I'll go back after the divorce proceedings on the 31st."

"Okay." After hanging up the phone, Daphne continued to review the project.

Once the divorce was over, and she returned, she would take over some projects for the Murphy Group, including the ones related to the Lancelot Group. She needed to, somehow, make a big profit from this.

The following days were relatively calm. On Friday night, Grandfather summoned both Charles and Daphne to come for a visit. Daphne didn’t refuse. Marcus was a respected elder, and she knew why he wanted them to come back.

They arrived at the Lancelot family mansion and the butler led both, Charles and Daphne, inside. This time, Mr. Lancelot and Laura were not present, only Grandfather and Rex, who had just returned.

"Grandfather," Charles greeted as he walked in. Daphne also promptly greeted him.

"Come in," Grandfather no longer had the same vitality as before. The thought of their imminent divorce made him feel uncomfortable. "Sit down, Daphne, next to me."

"Okay," Daphne didn’t decline, in her mind, it worked out perfectly that she didn't have to sit next to Charles.

Rex, dressed casually and with a wickedly handsome face, had a smile on his lips that hadn't fade since they entered.

"Daphne, long time no see," he exchanged pleasantries.

Daphne responded with a simple "Hmm."

She hadn't had much interaction with Rex. They only met two or three times a year, totaling six times at most. But she remembered him from their first meeting because, like Charles, he had a very attractive face.

Unfortunately, today, dinner was a rather dull event. Even with Rex occasionally chiming in to lighten the atmosphere, Grandfather's smile was not as bright as before. As we finished eating, Grandfather placed his fork down and looked at Daphne sitting next to him with a complex expression.

His voice carried a hint of hoarseness as he asked, "Daphne... Are you really going to divorce Charles?"

The word ‘really’ was hard to hear when it left his lips. Then, Grandfather continued, "I can't bear to part with you."

"In the future, you can come to Gedser or call me," Daphne reassured him.

"Can you not divorce Charles?" Grandfather's voice weighed heavy; he seemed to have aged several years in that moment. "As long as you don't leave, I promise he will treat you well. And I will take care of that Kayla for him."

"Grandfather," Charles interjected, displeased.

Grandfather scolded him without mincing words, "Shut up."

"Grandfather, there's no need to force it," Daphne truly had no feelings for Charles anymore. "I don't like him anymore, and it will be better for both of us if we divorce."

"Exactly," Rex chimed in, his gaze briefly falling on his own brother. "Forcing Daphne to be with someone she doesn't like, isn't that harming her?"

Grandfather glared at him. What was this kid blabbering about? Charles' gaze darkened, as he glared at Rex.

"Daphne, why don't you come out with me after?" Rex gave Daphne a signal to help her out. "I have a few friends who I can introduce to you. After the divorce, you still need to develop your career."

"Okay," Daphne, seeing the truth in his words, agreed.

Her answer infuriated Charles no end. Okay? Did she even know what kind of people Rex, this rascal, would be introducing her to?

"Grandfather, I'll take Daphne out now," Rex winked at Grandfather. "You and Charles can continue eating."

Grandfather nodded. "Alright."

An almost imperceptible furrow appeared on Charles forehead. He was struggling to understand the strange events of the evening. With the kind of man he knew his Grandfather to be, he didn’t understand how he could allow Rex to take Daphne out.

This was a crucial moment, with his impending divorce, between himself and Daphne. How could his grandfather allow such behavior?

"Do you feel uncomfortable?" Grandfather suddenly spoke up.

Charles didn't react for a moment. "What?"

"Do you feel uneasy watching Daphne being taken out by someone else?" Grandfather questioned his expression.

Now was the time that they had a serious discussion. His grandfather began, "Next Wednesday, your cooling-off period will be over, and Daphne will divorce you. By then, there will be someone else reminding her to dress warmly and supporting her.”

“You will become a passing visitor in her life. If you can hear all this without it affecting your heart, and if you still want a divorce, I'll support your decision. But if there's even a hint of discomfort, I hope you will fight for your marriage."

"No need," Charles suppressed his emotions. Since he had made the decision...he would follow it through. Once the decision to divorce is made, then the path should be followed.

Even if it makes him feel uncomfortable, and he doesn't want other men around her. It's just possessiveness, that comes from being together for a long time. It's nothing important. Afterall, he had made promises, promises for a future to Kayla, he wasn't going to let her down.

"Charles!" Grandfather thought he was stubborn.

"I couldn't be any clearer about my feelings for Daphne," Charles said, his thin lips slightly parted, his eyes serious. "The decision, to divorce, was made after careful consideration. I am an adult and I know what I'm doing."

"Suit yourself!" Grandfather was angry again. "Don't come crying to me for help later."

Charles remained silent, having nothing to say, until Grandfather glared at him. "If you dare marry that Kayla, then I’m telling you now, you will no longer be a part of the Lancelot family."

"Grandfather, she is a good girl. Please don't be biased against her." Charles spoke with deep conviction.

"A good girl? Would a good girl ruin someone else's marriage?" Grandfather believed Charles had a problem with his moral compass. "Would she get so close to you when she knows you are married? Would she make you divorce Daphne for her?!"
