Chapter 687 If Your Dad Finds Out, He'll Definitely Beat You
"If he only realizes he wants to be with you after you've given up," Charles suddenly asked, a hint of complex emotion flickering across his brow, "would you still give him a chance?"
"It depends," Diana answered rationally.
Charles, still not fully understanding matters of the heart, asked, "Depends on what?"
"If he didn't agree because he hadn't figured things out or for other reasons I can accept, and if I haven't fallen for someone else, I might still consider it," Diana explained clearly. "But..."
"But what?" Charles pressed.
"I don't know how to describe it." Diana didn't continue. "I'll decide based on the situation."
"You are very much like your mother," Charles remarked naturally, "direct and straightforward in matters of the heart, once you choose a path, you don't look back."
"Not exactly," Diana refuted. "I may seem more lively than my mom on the surface, but in reality, she's a very soft-hearted person. She may appear indifferent and distant, but inside, she's completely different."
"Really?" Charles wasn't quite convinced.
From his later memories, Daphne was someone who, once she chose a path, would never look back, nothing could stop her from moving forward.
"Yes." Diana nodded, knowing what Charles was thinking. "The reason you lost to my dad back then, I think, is because you voluntarily withdrew. If you hadn't, and instead pursued my mom relentlessly after regaining your memory, maybe you would have won her over."
"If your dad heard this, he'd definitely give you a beating." Charles changed the subject.
At this point, bringing up the past was meaningless.
Besides, back then, he couldn't bring himself to be relentless.
Diana's eyes were filled with the warmth and joy of family. "If he beats me, my mom would be the first to ignore him."
Charles chuckled, thinking that things were pretty good as they were now.
"There's one thing you got wrong." Charles corrected Diana's earlier statement. "Your mom hates being pursued relentlessly."
"She hates the kind of relentless pursuit that's self-righteous." Diana understood Daphne well. "Pursuing someone requires skill. Your pursuit skills back then were really poor."
Diana added, "It's a miracle you managed to win anyone over with those methods. If I had been born twenty years earlier and was your sister, things between you and my mom would definitely be different."
Some things were irreparable. Daphne was someone who seemed hard to pursue, hard to talk to, and cold and distant, but in reality, she was very easy to win over.
Just look at Benjamin, who managed to win Daphne over without much effort.
Daphne's personality meant that once she agreed to be with someone, she wouldn't break up easily. As long as there were no unforgivable mistakes, she would stay together for life.
"Come talk to me after you've won Caspian over," Charles said to her.
Diana smiled. "Can you help me, the person with the most power in the Lancelot Group?"
Charles cleared his throat. "Speak properly."
"I want to work at the Lancelot Group," Diana said straightforwardly, not holding back at all. "Preferably in a position where I can often interact with Caspian."
"No one has ever gotten into the company through my connections." Charles raised an eyebrow and said this to her.
Even Caspian had started from the bottom and worked his way up, gradually getting promoted until he was given the position of CEO.
"I don't need you to hire me directly." Diana was confident in her abilities. "I'm just worried that if I submit my resume normally, Caspian might reject me out of personal bias."
"Caspian isn't that kind of person," Charles instinctively defended.
"You'll find out soon enough," Diana replied. "With my work experience and education, it's not unreasonable for me to apply for positions like executive assistant, secretary, or director at the Lancelot Group, right?"
Charles responded with a simple. "Right."
"In other words, if I don't even pass the resume screening, it means Caspian did it on purpose," Diana hinted.
Charles thought for a moment and nodded.
Diana smiled slightly.
She opened the Lancelot Group's website and showed Charles the resume she had submitted. "I submitted my resume last week, and I haven't received any response. It says on the website that if you don't hear back within three business days, you should apply elsewhere."
Charles took a look; she had submitted it last Wednesday, and now it was Tuesday. It was indeed Caspian's doing.
"Does your mom know you're applying to work at my company?" Charles asked while arranging a position for Diana.
"I mentioned it to her before," Diana answered honestly, knowing Charles's intention. "Don't worry, she doesn't mind which company I work for."
After careful consideration, Charles agreed to Diana's request.
That afternoon.
Under the guise of an inspection, he took Diana to the Lancelot Group.
When Diana had visited Ivrea City before, she had accompanied Charles to the Lancelot Group. The decor had changed a lot since then.
When they arrived at the company, everyone they encountered greeted Charles, and then their eyes fell on Diana, curious about who she was.
"Mr. Lancelot." the recruitment director stood up immediately upon seeing Charles and greeted him.
Charles responded with a nod.
The recruitment director glanced at Diana instinctively. For some reason, she seemed familiar to him.
"Why hasn't anyone joined the secretarial department yet?" Charles asked.
The recruitment director stammered, "Well..."
There had been many applicants.
But since last week, after he showed the shortlisted candidates to Caspian, Caspian had told him not to hire anyone yet, saying none of the applicants were suitable.
As an employee, he naturally complied, but why would Charles care about such a small matter?
"Mr. Garcia said there's no rush to hire." the recruitment director couldn't withstand Charles's presence and confessed. "He told me to wait a while."
Diana saw through it immediately; she knew Caspian was afraid she would apply under a different identity. Was it necessary to guard against her like this?
"Process her onboarding," Charles said to the recruitment director, glancing at Diana. "She'll intern here for a while."
