Chapter 219 Choosing to Let Go
As Daphne appeared, she instantly became the center of attention in the room.
Daisy stood by the window, and her suppressed heart suddenly relaxed, tears filling her eyes instantly. "Daphne!"
"Ms. Murphy," the two bodyguards called out in unison.
Daphne handed the car keys to them.
Only then did she look at Austin and speak, "Are you leaving on your own, or should I ask you to leave?"
With the word "ask," Daphne deliberately emphasized her tone.
Austin understood clearly that Daphne was threatening him.
He considered confronting her, but he also knew that if it came to a physical altercation, Daphne would not fight with the other bodyguards; he would be the first one she'd confront.
And he couldn't beat her!
At that moment, he deeply regretted that he hadn't gone with Charles since he had been dragged along to the train.
If he had gone, maybe it would have been Daphne lying flat on the ground at that moment!
"Can you stop being so annoying?" Austin asked, genuinely dissatisfied with Daphne, "This is a matter between Daisy and me. Do you really need to interfere?"
"She is my friend," Daphne only said this.
Daphne wasn't one to meddle in others' affairs.
However, Daisy was her friend, and she couldn't stand by and watch Austin, this scumbag, commit these disgusting acts.
It was normal for women to help each other.
"If I were you, I'd go back and hire a top lawyer with a high salary right now." Daphne taunted him on purpose. "That way, maybe when it comes to a lawsuit, you won't lose too miserably."
Austin was truly furious at this moment, but he couldn't express it.
He couldn't match her in skill or family background.
And now, he was even losing in terms of presence!
"I really just came to have a good talk with Daisy this time." Austin planned to reason with her. "I know I misunderstood her before, and I'm here to make it up to her."
"Make it up?" Daphne's words carried a hint of coldness.
Austin didn't notice it and said, "That's right."
"Do you consider your hurtful words to her a form of reparation?" Daphne retorted mercilessly.
Austin was speechless.
What could he do?
Since Daisy refused to go back with him, he could only resort to this method to pressure her.
"In the past, I thought you and Charles were two equally despicable men." Daphne never expected Austin to go this far. "But now, I think you are even more disgusting than him."
In the same situation, Charles wouldn't resort to such despicable means to threaten others.
At least with Charles, she could see through his behavior at a glance.
"You keep saying you want to make amends and treat her well, but from your actions, all I see are underhanded tactics," Daphne said directly, each one striking at Austin's heart.
Austin was so angered by this, saying, "Who are you to say that?"
"Do you understand love?" Daphne hit him with a soul-searching question.
Austin was caught off guard.
For the first time, he felt this kind of confusion.
"Are you trying to say that you brought Daisy with you to take better care of her, to support her, to give her a carefree life?" Daphne hit the nail on the head with each question. "Do you think that's your love?"
"Isn't it?" Austin countered.
"No," Daphne replied, "You do all this without even asking if she wants it."
Austin fell silent, rendered speechless.
Words were building up in his chest that he wanted to retort to Daphne, but he knew that if he said them, Daphne would only make him feel even more worthless.
"I want to talk to Daisy." It took him a while, but he finally said this.
"Okay." Daphne agreed.
Ten minutes later.
Austin entered the living room and sat across from Daisy, with Daphne beside her.
Daphne had initially intended to wait nearby, as she felt it was inappropriate to be present during Austin and Daisy's conversation, but Daisy insisted she stay.
"I've said everything I needed to say," Daisy said. Daphne was by her side, and she felt powerful. "What do you have to say directly?"
"Aren't you giving me any chance at all?" Austin asked.
Daisy replied, "No."
Austin asked, "Don't you want to be with me so much?"
Daisy replied, "Yes."
"Why?" Austin didn't understand. "I never intended to hurt you, and I won't make decisions based on others' words in the future. I will prioritize you."
"I'm tired." Daisy didn't enjoy the life of a socialite.
Austin was good-looking, excelled in his studies from a young age, and was also very capable of managing the company.
Because Daisy married him, she faced much provocation and disdain from other women, who thought she was just a lowly entertainment star unworthy of being Austin's wife.
She hadn't told Austin about this, nor had she told anyone else.
During that time, she was unhappy, facing challenges from others outside and coldness from Austin at home.
She was so tired.
When she found out that Daphne was the heiress of the Murphy Group a few days ago, she felt a sense of relief.
After all, she had been worried that Austin would come after Daphne for revenge before. She had even thought that if Austin really came to threaten Daphne, she would compromise.
At least she couldn't let Austin really harm Daphne.
Fortunately, God was watching over her.
"Give me another month." Austin still refused to give up. "If you still insist on a divorce, I'll agree."
"No." Daisy refused decisively.
With a simple answer, Austin understood Daisy's thoughts and knew she wouldn't turn back.
His gaze fell on her, and he eventually stood up.
As he watched him walk away, Daisy felt a pang of sadness.
Because she had truly loved him, she felt sorrow, but she knew what choice she had to make.
"By the way," Austin suddenly stopped in his tracks and spoke.
Daisy looked over, suppressing her emotions. "What?"
"You don't have to come to Ivrea City specifically to divorce me." Austin's heart was heavy, his breath stifled. "I'll prepare the divorce agreement and send it to you tomorrow. If you have any requests, send them to Daphne, and I'll take care of them."
Austin didn't want a divorce.
However, he understood that if things escalated to a lawsuit and he lost, it would leave Daisy with a bad ending.
So, he chose to let go at this moment, at least leaving a good impression on Daisy.
Most importantly.
They wouldn't completely fall out.
Daisy was taken aback, not expecting him to say this. She said, "Okay."
"I'll go and comfort your parents." Austin finally compromised completely, realizing he didn't have enough power to resist Daphne. "You don't have to worry too much."
"Okay." Daisy continued to agree.
Austin looked back at her, moved his mouth, but ultimately said nothing more.
They gazed at each other across the room, each with complex emotions in their eyes.
"I've told you today," Austin said to Daphne a bit harshly, "If anything happens to Daisy under your care, I won't let you off."
Daphne didn't respond.
She simply regarded Austin as seeking attention in front of Daisy.
Suppressing his murky emotions, Austin walked out, his entire being seeming to lose all his arrogance and confidence in an instant.
