Chapter 93 Shall I Call the Cops?
Austin didn't loosen his grip, simply issuing a cold command to his assistant, "Drive to the hospital."
The assistant promptly started the car and headed towards their company-owned clinic.
With each passing moment, the airport grew further away, and Daisy's heart filled with increasing bits of panic and dread.
She didn't want the abortion.
She didn't want to be sent to the operating table.
"Austin, if you dare harm my child, I'll never forgive you for as long as I live!" Daisy’s eyes brimmed with red-hot tears.
Austin paid no mind to her threats; he simply restrained her movements, not allowing her to stir.
It took an entire hour before they finally reached the hospital.
Upon arrival, Daisy refused to leave the car.
She knew all too well what awaited her once she stepped out.
Austin looked at her with an underlying hint of sympathy in his eyes, but ultimately he wrenched her from the car with firm resolve.
"Just do as I say," Austin admonished, trying to temper his frustration. " You're not healthy enough for pregnancy. If you really want a child, wait until you've recovered, then you can think about it."
"It's because you believe it's not your child and you want to get rid of it, right?" Daisy's wrist was chafed red from his grip, stinging with pain. "Why make up such noble excuses!"
"Daisy!" Austin scolded sharply.
Daisy's eyes blazed with defiance.
The hospital was quiet at the moment, and with Daisy's reputation in mind, Austin had made arrangements ahead of time.
He had no intention of explaining anything to Daisy. Giving the waiting doctor a knowing look, he heartlessly handed her over.
Daisy struggled, cried, and resisted.
All to no avail.
She could only be dragged toward the operating room, phoneless, unable to call for help or contact the authorities.
She couldn't even protect her own child!
As her vision blurred, staring at Austin’s cold, indifferent face, she felt a surge of hatred toward him. Austin.
"I'll make sure you pay for what you've done to my child!"
"What's going on here?" Daphne's voice suddenly cut through the tension as she stood in the lobby, her presence arresting the attention of everyone pulling Daisy along.
The hospital seemed to freeze with her words.
Daisy felt the sound of Daphne's voice like a melody from heaven. Wiping away the tears that had clouded her sight and upon recognizing Daphne, her emotions overwhelmed her again, and she burst into tears.
It was Daphne who had come.
"Let my friend go," Daphne demanded, casually dressed, exuding a youthful and laid-back aura with an air of confident femininity.
The medical staff exchanged uneasy glances, all eventually turning their attention towards Austin standing in the doorway, clad in a business suit.
Austin's frown deepened when he saw Daphne.
Why does Charles' soon-to-be ex-wife have to show up everywhere?
"This is a private family matter, none of your business," Austin approached with his usual nonchalant demeanor, "Mrs. Lancelot should focus on her own troubles first."
"Do I need to call the police and ask if forcing someone into an abortion qualifies as 'family matters'?" Daphne had already positioned herself protectively next to Daisy.
One by one, the doctors voiced their concern.
"Mr. Hill, perhaps it's best not to escalate this."
"While you and the young lady are married, you don't have the right to deny her motherhood."
"Maybe... perhaps you should talk to her first?"
None of them wanted to be involved in this, but they were compelled to act on their boss's command.
Austin's expression turned sour, his disdain for Daphne growing by the minute.
This woman.
Unbelievably irritating!
"Daphne, you're married to Charles—I wouldn't dare lay a finger on you," Austin threatened, attempting to intimidate her. "But let's not forget, your divorce is imminent. It wouldn't take but a word from me to ruin you."
"Austin, don't you dare!" Daisy retorted, her anger rising.
It was only now that the gravity of the situation sunk in for her.
When Daphne called her, she was so terrified that she blurted out those words without thinking.
But now, reflecting on it, she had inadvertently dragged Daphne into her mess. How would Daphne cope with this fallout?
"Don't get so worked up, the baby can sense that," Daphne calmly reassured her with a knowing glance before subtly reminding her, "Didn't I tell you I'm well-off?"
Daisy paused, recalling the conversation about the divorce settlement—Daphne had received a whopping $1.4 billion from Charles. Even parked in a bank at a low interest rate, it would still draw over twenty million a year in interest.
It seemed almost impossible to financially ruin her.
Austin picked up on their silent communication and remembered the generous settlement Charles had agreed to in the divorce. Charles was always good at botching things but exceeding at nothing—always adding to his own problems!
"Daisy, think carefully, if you don't go through with the abortion today, who's to say Daphne won't find herself in a car accident tomorrow, or break an arm or a leg? It's not beyond the realm of possibility," Austin threatened, resorting to another tactic.
He wouldn't actually do it, but he wanted Daisy to make the right choice.
Daisy's eyes welled up with tears, her brows creased with hesitation and conflict.
Suddenly unsure, the thought of losing her child was unbearable, but she couldn't bear to see Daphne harmed either.
"Forget about him, let's go," Daphne said, taking her by the hand to leave, dismissing Austin as a no-brainer.
Daisy stood still, not budging.
Daphne looked back at her warmly, "What's wrong?"
"Daphne, you go ahead..."
"Stop with the nonsense. Come home with me and take care of yourself," Daphne assertively dismissed any concerns about the men. "If Charles couldn't handle it, neither can he."
Who were they to threaten her?
She could believe those threats coming from her enemies, but Austin? He was hardly worth the concern.
Austin was incensed.
He was used to being cursed at, but to be summarily dismissed on top of that?
"Daphne, are you sure you want to defy me?" Austin's voice carried a veiled threat as he watched her guiding Daisy away.
"You're overthinking it," Daphne said without breaking her stride.
Austin let out a breath of relief. If she was afraid to confront him, so much the better for him.
He sauntered over, hands in his pockets, his nearly six-foot-three frame towering over Daphne, "If you're too scared to stand up to me, then stay out of..."
"You're not even on my radar," Daphne cut him off, unfazed.
Her indifference was like a slap in his face. She hadn't even considered him worth the opposition. Austin was left to stew in his own vexation, rendered insignificant in Daphne's determined stride.
With that, she took Daisy's hand, leading her away without sparing Austin an additional glance.
Austin's fist clenched. Weighing his options, he ordered his bodyguards, "Stop her."
The nerve of that woman!
In an instant, four bodyguards surrounded Daphne and Daisy.
“Daphne…” Daisy’s anxiety resurfaced.
"If I were you, Austin, I wouldn't take things this far," Daphne fearlessly retorted.
Austin didn’t care one bit.
All he wanted was to keep Daisy and terminate the pregnancy. If he let her continue with her antics, the child’s very existence could endanger her once it was born – a risk he was unwilling to take.
