Chapter 235 If You Don't Come Soon, Daphne Will Leave

Luke didn't guess this time either. He just looked at Daphne, waiting for her to speak.

If he guessed, it would only get more and more outrageous.

"Let's talk after dinner." Daphne didn't want to ruin his appetite. "It's not urgent."

"If you don't share with me, I'll keep dwelling on it," Luke sighed intentionally. "When something weighs on my mind, my appetite diminishes. I might not even feel like having lunch."

Daphne was helpless; she knew Luke was doing it on purpose.

She didn't drag it out any longer and simply said, "It's about Aubrey."

"Aubrey?" Luke perked up immediately.

He thought of what Charles had told him a few days ago. Could they be talking about the same thing?

Daphne said, "Yes."

She rose from her seat, retrieved the documents from her bag, and handed them to him after mentally preparing herself. "She has done many things wrong. Please don't get upset when you read them.."

Luke took the documents and started reading, his emotions very calm throughout the process.

He didn't even ask any questions.

He just silently read through all the documents.

The calmer he was, the more worried Daphne became, fearing that Luke was suppressing all his emotions.

"I found out about this a few days ago," Luke said in a somber tone, growing more serious but not angry, "It's Blake and my fault for not properly disciplining her, leading to all this trouble for you.."

Daphne was momentarily stunned.

She quickly reacted and asked, "How did you know?"

Up until now, only she and Jesse knew about this.

Jesse wouldn't go to see Luke.

Luke gave her a complicated look and finally told her, "Charles came to see me a few days ago and talked to me about it."

"Charles?"

"Yes."

Daphne felt a bit chaotic.

How did Charles know?

"When he departed, he made it clear that I shouldn't inquire about it, and he expressed regret, mentioning that he would hold Aubrey accountable for her actions," Luke pondered, still puzzled about their divorce. He believed Charles had deep concern for Daphne.

Daphne was stunned.

Luke continued, "Initially, I planned to confront Aubrey, but she discreetly flew abroad on the night of the third of this month. Nobody can reach her now."

Upon hearing this, Daphne recalled seeing Aubrey outside the Murphy Group building earlier.

Did Aubrey leave abruptly out of fear of potential issues with Daphne?

"Daphne" Luke felt guilty.

Daphne asked, "What's wrong?"

"I want to apologize to you. If I had known earlier about the ridiculous things she did, I would have disciplined her properly." Luke was always fair in these matters. "I've already told Blake that as soon as she returns, we will punish her."

"You don't need to apologize. It's her fault, not yours." Daphne was relieved to see that he was in a good state.

Luke always kept his word.

She trusted him.

Luke felt a bit heavy-hearted. He never thought Blake's daughter would turn out like this.

She must have been spoiled!

"Mr. Smith." Daphne thought of something and decided to say it first.

Luke was always good to Daphne. "Say whatever you want to say."

"If Aubrey tries to harm me again, as long as I'm sure it's her, I might directly retaliate," Daphne warned Luke in advance.

Aubrey was too careful for Daphne to catch her in the act.

In that case, Daphne decided to take matters into her own hands.

"Just go ahead and do it," Luke assured her, "I'll support you."

If Blake supported her, he would handle the situation himself. If Blake disciplined his children in the same way as his brother Stephen did, Aubrey wouldn't have ended up like this.

Stephen's child, Jordan, while a bit mischievous, was still a decent person and wouldn't engage in any illegal activities.

"If it's a minor issue, you can go to Jordan. Stephen gave him some free time after scolding him a while ago." Luke added.

He didn't mention the crucial detail. With Benjamin now retired, if Daphne faced any harassment, Benjamin would be the first to address the situation. Daphne simply replied, "Okay."

After the matter was resolved, Daphne felt a bit more relaxed.

Seeing that it wasn't time for dinner yet, Luke asked Daphne to play a game of chess with him.

Before that, he sent a message to Benjamin: [If you don't come soon, Daphne will leave.]

Benjamin, who was playing chess with a group of old men, received the message.

He glanced at it: [Keep her there. I'll come over after this game.]

"Benjamin, it's your turn. Why are you playing with your phone?"

"Hurry up."

"I'm next."

"Has Benjamin's chess skill improved over the past two years?"

"Does it matter? Has anyone here ever pushed him to his highest level?"

"He's too good."

These old men chattered.

Benjamin, clad in a long black coat, casually remarked, "After this game, it's time for you all to head home for lunch. Don't keep your wives waiting."

"It's almost noon!"

"Time flies. We've only played two games."

"I don't care. I'm first after lunch."

"It should be me!"

They started arguing.

Benjamin's long, narrow eyes had a pair of beautiful pupils.

His slender fingers deftly maneuvered the chess pieces, creating a picturesque scene filled with charm.

He quickened his pace, intrigued by Daphne's anticipated reaction upon seeing him later.

Daphne, too, was fully engaged in the game, well aware of Luke's skill when he was focused.

Meanwhile, Benjamin had already completed his game, yet neither Daphne nor Luke noticed the tall, handsome man in a black coat and military boots approaching from the pathway.

Benjamin stood behind her.

His beautiful eyes glanced at the back of her head before focusing on their chessboard, a slight smile forming on his thin lips.

Daphne sensed someone behind her but didn't overthink.

Assuming it was just another visitor from the Smith family or other government housing residents coming to observe, she didn't give it much thought.

Luke, engrossed in the game, also remained oblivious.

Another twenty minutes elapsed before their game concluded.

Luke exhaled deeply, growing more fond of Daphne. "You're really meticulous. I almost..."

He stopped mid-sentence when he saw Benjamin.

When did he get here?

Daphne observed Luke with an unfamiliar expression and instinctively turned to follow his gaze.
