Chapter 58 Can You Believe This?
It was the first time he had seen her so compliant during this period of time. Clearly, it was the result he wanted, but there was an indescribable unease in the depths of his heart.
As for Daphne, after he left, Mark bravely expressed his thoughts, "Miss Murphy, why did you agree to apologize? You're becoming a scapegoat for someone else!"
"A scapegoat?"
"Isn't that the case?"
"Yes," Daphne forgave Mark for his previous actions. "But your boss has already concluded that I am the one responsible."
"Shouldn't you explain it to him again?" Mark couldn't bear to see Daphne being used as a scapegoat. "Explain it a few more times, and your boss will surely believe you."
Daphne's gaze fell on him. "Do you believe that?" Mark instantly denied it in his heart.
"Sleep in that room tonight," Daphne casually pointed, "deal with your own change of clothes."
He didn't quite understand. "Sleep?"
"Didn't Charles tell you to keep an eye on me until I finish writing and posting the apology on Twitter?" Daphne said nonchalantly, without a trace of anger. "I don't plan to do it today." Mark froze. Could things really go this way?
"The kitchen is over there, and there's milk and fruit in the fridge," Daphne instructed him. "Order takeout if you're hungry."
"May I... Miss Murphy!" Mark called her. Daphne glanced to the side.
Mark pursed his lips, contemplating for a while before finally speaking up, "I'll go and explain the situation to the boss, tell him that you didn't do this. If he doesn't believe me, I'll investigate and present him with the evidence."
"No need," Daphne declined.
She had agreed to apologize, but it didn't mean she was apologizing for this matter. Previously, she had mentioned that if Charles ever came looking for trouble because of Kayla's situation, she would not hesitate to expose their affair.
Mark couldn't bear to see this. But Daphne didn't engage in further conversation with him; she exchanged a few words and went upstairs. Once Charles and Kayla's affair was exposed, the Lancelot Group would be affected, and since Marcus treated her well, she should inform him in advance.
When Grandfather found out, he didn't blame Daphne. He just sighed. At this point, he didn't want to deal with that useless grandson anymore. After hanging up the phone, Daphne sent a message to her personal assistant: “Keep an eye on Daisy's resources. If the Lancelot Group interferes, help her protect it.”
Gino: “Alright.”
After resolving this matter, she finally called Kevin. There were some things Kevin was better at handling than her.
"Daphne!" Kevin's tone was cheerful; he was always happy when talking to Daphne on the phone.
"Are you busy?"
"Not at all."
"Help me with something," Daphne got straight to the point, "Write an apology letter in my tone. I'll send you the specific content on WhatsApp later."
Kevin was a little stunned, unable to immediately react, "Apology?"
"To who?"
"Kayla."
Kevin had seen that trending tweet and, combining it with their previous situation and the attached photos, he immediately understood, "Why do you want to apologize to her? She was the one who intruded into your relationship."
"It's not a genuine apology," Daphne explained, "I just want to clarify the truth for the internet users. I'll send you the specific details."
"Alright." Kevin felt relieved knowing that it wasn't a real apology. They couldn't stand to see her being treated unfairly.
After Daphne sent him the details, Kevin became infuriated. What kind of jerk was this, Charles? He actually made Daphne apologize to Kayla. He was enraged!
The consequence of his anger was that he wrote a subtly sarcastic apology letter in Daphne's voice, although he did infuse a bit of his own emotions into it. That evening, while Daphne and Mark were still having dinner, Charles called.
Mark put down his chopsticks and answered the call, "Boss."
"Why hasn't the apology statement been released?" Charles demanded. Returning to Queens Villa, they sat in the study on the second floor.
"Still writing."
"Do you need the whole afternoon?"
"The previous versions were not good, so I had Miss Murphy rewrite them several times," Mark glanced at Daphne, lying, "Now she's upset with me."
He retorted, "Are you becoming more skillful?"
"Should we ask the editorial department for help?" Mark inquired, knowing the boss wouldn't approve, "This apology statement is quite difficult to write, and mistakes can easily happen."
"You have one more day," Charles furrowed his brow slightly, "I want to see the result by tomorrow evening."
Mark immediately agreed, "Yes."
As soon as the call ended, Daphne asked, "You could have just told him you haven't written it."
"Knowing our boss, if I said I hadn't written it, he would definitely be angry," Mark adjusted his glasses, "This way, it's better for everyone and avoids a lot of trouble."
A notification sound chimed. Charles had sent him a message: “Send me what she had written before.”
Mark's expression froze, and he quickly replied: “I've deleted it...”
Charles: “There should be editing records.”
Mark: “Miss Murphy wrote it on a text document, there is no record.”
Charles threw his phone onto the desk, feeling that something was amiss. Recalling Mark's admiration when he saw Daphne's hacking skills, he picked up his coat from the office chair and headed outside, taking his car directly to Daphne's residential area.
By the time he arrived, it was already past nine o'clock. Mark was sitting on the sofa, watching a reality show. It was the most relaxed and comfortable time he had experienced as an assistant. Daphne came downstairs to get water and glanced at the TV.
"Miss Murphy, do you want to come and watch?" Mark shifted to the side, "It's more comfortable to sit here."
"No need," Daphne simply got her water, taking a break, "I'll watch for half an hour."
Mark didn't say much either.
They continued watching TV together. It was a funny reality show, and Mark had been enjoying it, while Daphne relaxed a little after watching for a while. After spending the afternoon reviewing projects from the Murphy Group and the Lancelot Group, their brains were starting to hurt a bit.
After about ten minutes, the electronic lock on the door suddenly made a sound. At that moment, the reality show reached its funniest part, and both Daphne and Mark were focused on it, not paying much attention to the noise at the door.
Charles walked in, and he saw Daphne and Mark watching TV together. In that instant, he immediately became furious. Standing there, his arm still clad in his suit, he looked at the two of them, "What are you doing?"
