Chapter 232 Sophia Lost Her Composure

"Am I right?" Daphne said slowly, "Mrs. Hayes."

"I understand that you may not approve of me, but there's no reason to make hurtful assumptions about me and Summer," Sophia felt embarrassed but restrained herself due to Daphne's position. "I am simply in a straightforward relationship with your father, without any hidden agenda.""

Daphne asked, "Really?"

"Yes," Sophia said earnestly.

"In that case, I won't meddle in your marriage to my father," Daphne stated without further debate. "You can arrange a time to formally register your marriage.."

Sophia was completely stunned.

She never expected Daphne's thinking to be so unpredictable.

Daphne had been pondering her decision earnestly. How did she transition so quickly from skepticism to consenting to their marriage registration after only a few words?

She didn't appear to be easily swayed or convinced.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" Daphne asked deliberately, seeing the effect she had achieved.

Sophia knew she had lost her composure, but she was always good at acting and maintaining her composure. "Do you really agree to me officially registering my marriage with your father?"

They hadn't registered their marriage for so long because Alexander was concerned about his daughters' feelings.

"I agree."

"Why?"

"Your relationship is based purely on emotions, without any hidden agendas," Daphne cut to the chase.

"But before you officially tie the knot, there's something I must inform you about.

"What?" Sophia, now more relaxed around Daphne, asked.

Daphne spoke clearly, "After you and my dad get married, Summer won't inherit any assets."

Sophia was stunned.

What?

"My father has already transferred the shares of Murphy Group to Lydia and me," Daphne disclosed, aware of Sophia's ulterior motives. "Moreover, his other investments have been notarized and will be passed down to Lydia and me in due course."

What she said was true.

After her mother passed away and that incident happened, Alexander had secretly arranged all this with a lawyer.

She had only discovered it by chance recently.

"What?" Sophia finally lost her composure.

Daphne looked at her.

Sensing her gaze, Sophia quickly regained her composure.

She quickly composed herself, her expression now noticeably less gentle. "That's okay; as long as you agree to me being with your father, we can discuss everything else."

"Alright," Daphne said indifferently.

Sophia seemed a bit out of it.

Daphne wanted to ensure her father's happiness in his later years and expressed her final thought, "Just a reminder, please don't consider having Summer marry into wealth. In the real world, without financial support, she may not have a fulfilling life.

Her dad still had quite a few properties.

His billions in savings and those properties were enough for Sophia and Summer to live a wealthy life.

As long as they weren't too greedy.

"Daphne," Sophia suddenly called out to her.

Daphne had just stood up to leave and asked expressionlessly, "What?"

"Can you gift Summer some shares of Murphy Group?" Sophia finally blurted out. If she received nothing, why would she choose to be with Alexander? "I want her to marry a better man."

With shares of Murphy Group, it would be easy for Summer to marry into any wealthy family.

Those people wouldn't dare to bully her.

Daphne looked at her, as if curious about how she could say such a thing.

"As long as you agree, I don't need anything else. I'll just live a peaceful old age with your father,," Sophia blurted out.

She didn't mind living a simple life; being with Alexander wouldn't be hard. He was always generous and kind to her.

But she had to consider Summer's future.

Daphne's words turned cold. "No."

Her parents had worked hard for decades to achieve their success and wealth. Why should she give it to an outsider?

"She's practically your sister." Sophia couldn't hold back her emotions after hearing Daphne's realistic words. "Can't you give her some shares?"

"You can ask my dad," Daphne said, "See if he's willing."

Sophia's spirit seemed to diminish.

As Daphne was about to leave, she emphasized. "Also, I only have one sister, Lydia. Even if you marry my dad, Summer will never be our real sister."

Saying that, she walked away.

She couldn't feel sympathy or affection for Sophia and Summer.

She wondered how Alexander would feel if he knew Sophia was after the shares of Murphy Group.

With these thoughts, she returned to the living room.

Seeing her, Lydia felt a bit relieved.

They finally finished talking!

"Where's my mom?" Summer asked, puzzled after waiting for a while without seeing Sophia come in.

Daphne remained cold towards her. "Outside."

Summer stood up and walked out.

The living room was left with just Alexander, Daphne, and Lydia. Alexander asked, "How did the talk go?"

"You should go see her; she probably has something to say to you." Daphne didn't know how to explain. "Lydia and I will wait for you in the car."

Alexander paused, then nodded. "Alright."

They walked outside.

Before Alexander could find Sophia, she and Summer came over.

Summer looked confused, not knowing what had happened. Sophia's mental state wasn't good, looking more haggard than before.

"What's going on?" Alexander had almost never seen her like this.

"Alexander, let's end our relationship," Sophia said softly, her expression complex. "Daphne is right; there's too much of a gap between us. If you marry me, people in our social circle will surely gossip about you.."

Lydia was stunned.

Lydia whispered to Daphne, "What's going on?"

Daphne didn't respond.

She just squeezed her hand.

Lydia didn't ask further, planning to ask in the car later.

"Mom, what are you talking about?" Summer was completely confused, not understanding what she was doing.

Didn't she tell her to behave well today?

Why weren't they together anymore?

Sophia didn't answer her question, just looked at Alexander with red eyes, full of reluctance; her eyes filled with struggle and various emotions.

"Tomorrow, Summer and I will pack up and leave," Sophia said, lowering her head to conceal her emotions and expressing her gratitude. "Thank you, Mr. Murphy, for your care and attention during this time.."

She acted as if she was forced into this.

Alexander instinctively thought she might had misunderstood Daphne's words.

"Wait," he called out to her, "Is there some misunderstanding between you and Daphne?"

Sophia looked at Daphne with red eyes, ultimately remaining silent.

She seemed to be playing the victim to the fullest.

This display led Lydia and Alexander to automatically assume that Sophia had misconstrued Daphne's words. Little did they know that Sophia was putting on an act.
