Chapter128 Forced to Work by My Assistant Every Day

From where she sat, Daphne couldn’t see the man's face, but his voice and silhouette were unmistakably Tony's.

Previously at the hotel, she had deliberately provoked a reaction, aiming to provide Tony with a motive to pursue her. That way, she could directly gather evidence of Tony's criminal activities and send him to jail.

So far, she hadn't faced any repercussions yet.

"Jesse."

"Yes, boss?"

"Are you dressed for a fight today?" Daphne had already mapped out her plan.

Jesse knew Daphne all too well. With a concise response, he understood her intentions, "Definitely."

Whatever the boss commanded, he was ready.

Daphne was reassured, "Good."

They finished their meal leisurely. When it was time to pay, Daphne purposely raised her voice. She wanted Tony to notice her, prompting him to initiate his plan. Just as she had anticipated, as soon as she spoke, Tony and Summer both turned their attention to her.

Daphne's voice was both pleasant and distinctive. Summer, having just heard it, recognized it immediately, while Tony remembered the voice that had left him soaking in the bathtub.

Sure enough, right after they left the restaurant, Tony approached them with a sly grin, "Isn't this Miss Daphne?"

Daphne looked at him indifferently, treating him as if he were insignificant.

"Uncle, you know her?" Summer's brows furrowed, a question spilling out as she witnessed this scene. Who exactly was this woman that even her uncle knew her?

"It's more than just knowing her. I played Cupid for her and Mr. Lancelot," Tony said. Although unaware of what had happened afterwards, he was certain that Lancelot, given Daphne's attractive figure, wouldn't have missed the opportunity. After all, few men could resist such beauty.

Summer was confused, "Who's Mr. Lancelot?"

"We can talk about that later," Tony had no intention of disclosing his past actions there and then, "You go home, first. I'll find you later when I've got some time."

"No way!" Summer, already annoyed at the sight of Daphne, insisted, "You have to give her a piece of your mind today. She spread nonsense to Mr. Murphy, and that's why he kicked me out."

Hearing this, Tony raised an eyebrow. With an amused look and a hint of mockery, he said, "Seems like Miss Daphne is quite adept at climbing up the social ladder, switching from Mr. Lancelot to Mr. Murphy so swiftly."

"What do you mean?" Summer felt like she was on the verge of understanding something, yet it all seemed so unclear.

"Miss Daphne climbed into Lancelot's bed, and now that he's over her, she's cozying up to Murphy," Tony blurted out with a smug look, "You got fired because she whispered poison into Murphy's ear."

"You mean she and Mr. Murphy...?" Summer's face displayed a sudden realization followed by shock and confusion.

Tony nodded, "Yep."

"At her age, she could be Murphy's daughter," Summer remarked, her voice a mix of disdain and bewilderment about such matters.

"Money talks in their line of work. Age is just a number if the price is right," Tony said, eyeing Daphne, convinced of her beauty. "Not just Mr. Murphy; she'd go for anyone, no matter how old."

Summer looked disgusted, as if she had just seen something revolting.

Daphne listened to every word.

After they finished speaking, she turned to Jesse, her voice flat, "Did you get all that?"

"All set," Jesse nodded.

"Organize the evidence and file charges against Tony for insult and defamation. We'll hold him criminally responsible," she directed Jesse, still locking eyes with Tony.

"Got it," Jesse agreed.

Hearing this, Tony's face turned pale. If this woman was with Murphy now, suing him would be a piece of cake. What should he do? He couldn't afford this kind of trouble.

"How is it defamation if it's true?" Tony raised his voice, stepping over to block their path.

Daphne, unfazed by his previous remark, tossed back, "That's something you can tell the judge."

With that, she left without hesitation. She was sure Tony would send someone to tail her, waiting for a chance to strike at the right moment. By doing so, Tony would bury himself even deeper.

"Daphne, stop!" he called, trying to catch up, but she was already out of reach.

Summer didn't quite understand the urgency. "Uncle, why worry? If it's the truth, let her sue."

"You don't get it, kiddo. I can't produce proof for this stuff," Tony was genuinely panicked now, the thought of going to jail made him squirm. "Without evidence, it means I'm lying!"

He had no idea if anything actually happened between Murphy and Daphne.

He remembered Daphne mentioning back at the hotel that she was Lydia's bodyguard, and that Murphy might have fired Summer out of consideration for Lydia.

What now?

He couldn't just wait around to be sued, could he?

With that thought in his head, he told Summer he had something to take care of and left. Then he made a call to have a car tailed and to gather some backup.

Daphne and Jesse were driving slowly; they wanted to make sure they could be followed.

The people tailing the Bentley started gossiping inside their vehicle.

“Holy smokes! Who are we tailing?”

“Could it be someone prominent?”

“I think this ride costs millions.”

“Are we still following them?”

“Of course!”

Daphne and Jesse were well aware of their pursuers.

After a moment, Daphne spoke . "We're not going back to the office today. Let's head to my residence, which I rarely use."

“Boss, you only spent less than an hour at the office today,” Jesse reminded her as he drove.

Daphne said nothing for a moment and then added, “I promise I’ll put in a full day tomorrow.”

"People usually choose to intercept at night," Jesse tried to persuade her. "Even if you go now, they won't make a move. It might be better to stay at the office for the rest of the day to give them opportunities to plan."

“Jesse.”

“I'll take that as a yes,” Jesse insisted.

What's a woman to do when her assistant insists on her going to work every day?

The car entered the company's parking garage.

The group trying to follow attempted to get in but couldn't because their license plate wasn't registered with the company.

After confirming their location, they reported it to Tony. Then Tony told them to stand by and gathered a large group of men to be prepared.
