Chapter 40 Do I Look Like A Fool?
Daphne couldn't be bothered to argue with her. "Hmm, you're right."
It was as if Kayla had punched a pillow, unable to muster any strength. She had never seen someone like Daphne before. "Don't think that Charles cared about you just because he divorced and gave you so much money. Let me tell you." Kayla suppressed her anger, wanting to tear apart Daphne's indifferent face.
Why did Daphne always act so superior whenever they discussed something? And why did she end up sounding like a lunatic?
Daphne's ears were filled with Kayla's incessant voice, and she had never been so annoyed with someone before. She used to think that girls were the most lovable creatures in the world; her sister, her friends. But now, she truly wanted to throw Kayla out of the window.
"Are you done?" Daphne couldn't be bothered to waste any more time with her.
Kayla could barely contain her emotions. "Daphne!"
"I'm not interested in what you have to say. If you're only here to talk about these boring matters, turn around and take the elevator downstairs." From start to finish, Daphne remained indifferent. Kayla's level was really too low for her to bother with any intellectual battles.
Feeling wronged by Daphne's retort, Kayla imagined a different scenario. Daphne should be arguing with her, preferably using harsh words and even hitting her. Only then could she cry and feel wronged in front of Charles. Charles would grow weary of Daphne, and then she wouldn't have to worry about him regretting the divorce.
"I have something important to discuss with you," she pressed her lips together and played her trump card. "Let's go downstairs."
Daphne replied, "Say it here if it's something important." Kayla stayed silent; lips puckered and Daphne simply looked at her. They stood there in a deadlock.
After about a minute, Daphne's patience ran out. She went into her room, grabbed her laptop, and closed the door, heading downstairs. Seeing this, Kayla quickly followed her.
Arriving at the bottom of the residential complex, Kayla pointed at a coffee shop. "Let's talk over there." Daphne didn't even acknowledge her and hailed a taxi, bypassing her.
She immediately ran after the car and stood in front of it, blocking its way. "Daphne, I really need to talk to you!"
"Driver, start driving." Daphne didn't even glance at her. If only she had bought a car and parked it in the garage earlier. It's so inconvenient to leave the house now.
"Miss, it would be better if you go down and finish your business with your friend." The driver didn't dare to really start driving, as there was someone in front. "From the looks of it, she really has an urgent matter."
Daphne's heart was reluctant. Kayla was like a piece of chewed gum, impossible to shake off.
She glanced through the car window, contemplated for a while, and for the sake of future peace, she got off.
Kayla didn't block her anymore. Five minutes later, the two of them sat by the window in the coffee shop. After Kayla ordered her coffee, Daphne went straight to the point and asked, "What is it? Hurry up."
"Do you like Charles?" Kayla suddenly asked.
"I like him," Daphne said.
"Do you know why we broke up before?" Kayla asked again.
Daphne looked at her, slightly impatient. "You better have something important to discuss."
"I know it was unfair to you when Charles divorced you for me, but I can't let go of him." Kayla's hand tightened slightly, and she bit her lip. "When I found out I had a terminal illness, I had to break up with him, despite the pain. At that time, I didn't have any hope, who could predict that I would be cured later." Kayla continued; she needed something from Daphne. "After the treatment, I contacted him and told him about what happened, and that's how things are now."
Daphne's voice was cold. "Do you want me to give you an award?"
"You don't have to mock me. I came to you because I need your help." Kayla struggled with her words, but she also knew that only Daphne could do this. She fell silent for a while.
Then she said the last sentence, "Can you help me talk to Charles' grandfather and Laura, ask them to accept me? I really, really like Charles."
Daphne's hand, playing with her phone, paused. She opened the WhatsApp group chat named "Dog Paradise" with the seven of them and sent a rare message.
Daphne: "Do I look like a fool? It was Charles before, and now it's Kayla. Do they all think I’m an easy target?”
Lab rat: "???"
Evan: "?"
The rest: "???"
Hardy: "Has your account been hacked?"
Lab rat: "Why is Daphne saying this?"
Daphne replied, completely ignoring Kayla's existence. When she talks to people, she basically doesn't know how to look at her mobile phone. After all, it is very impolite to play with her mobile phone while others are talking.
Daphne: “Charles's crush told me how much she liked Charles and asked me to plead with the Lancelot family's elders to accept her.”
The message was sent out and lab rat was the first to type: "how can someone with a brain say such a thing?"
Hardy: Give her a hundred dollars to do a brain CT.
Lucia: Let her come to me. I specialize in all kinds of shameless people.
Lab rat: It's exasperating!
Lucia: @ Daphne, helping her is just enough to infuriate Charles's elders.
Lab rat: ?
Hardy: ?
Daphne instantly understood what she meant, and replied with a smile on her lips: Good.
After answering the message, she put her phone on the screen. Lab rat and Hardy are completely angry, “pleading for such a bitch? Daphne still said yes?”
"As long as you promise me, I promise to let Charles help you when you are in trouble in the future." Kayla took it very seriously, as if it were a gift to Daphne.
Daphne raised her eyes slightly, and her tone was a little faster than before: "OK." She couldn't react a little bit.
With Daphne's character, she shouldn't dislike herself and refuse all her requests: "You said yes?"
"Mmhm-hmm." Kayla called up Marcus's number from her address book and asked, "can I help you now?"
"Yes." Kayla responded. There was uncontrollable joy in her eyebrows and eyes, but she felt that Daphne was a fool.
Daphne dialed Marcus's number, and the opposite quickly answered: "Daphne."
"Marcus, it's me." Daphne said briskly, to the elderly she was relatively soft, "I want to tell you a big thing, you get ready."
"I'm ready, go ahead."
