Chapter 330 The Result

If Daphne hadn't come back suddenly, none of this would have happened, and Sophia and Summer wouldn't be in this mess.

"Daphne, Lydia," Summer greeted, her tone a far cry from her usual arrogance.

Daphne and Lydia barely acknowledged her, just being polite.

Sophia felt even more nervous.

Sometimes Sophia couldn't understand why Daphne, just a girl in her twenties, had a stronger presence than Alexander. Whenever Daphne was around, Sophia couldn't hide her thoughts and emotions.

This time was no different.

"Have you eaten?" Sophia tried to change the subject to lighten the mood. "How about we eat first?"

"Thanks for asking, Mrs. Hayes. You should talk to Dad first," Lydia said, knowing Daphne didn't like to talk much. "We can find food ourselves if we're hungry. You go ahead."

Sophia felt a bit awkward.

Alexander didn't waste time on small talk. "It's getting late. Let's get to the point."

It had been months since their last conversation.

During that time, Daphne and Lydia hadn't seen Summer and Sophia, and they didn't know what Alexander had discussed with them after they left on Sophia's birthday.

But judging by today, it seemed like a final decision was coming.

"Can we talk alone?" Sophia was a bit wary of Daphne after the last time. "I want to discuss our matters."

Daphne was about to leave, but Alexander stopped her. "Daphne and Lydia are my daughters. There's nothing to hide from them."

Sophia hesitated. Summer glanced at Daphne, showing no emotion.

Logically, Daphne's return had messed up Summer's previously perfect life and social circle, so she should be angry and resentful.

But now, Summer couldn't feel any resentment. She simply hoped that regardless of how the conversation unfolded that day, Daphne wouldn't complicate matters for her.

Daphne's status was too significant.

If Sophia and Alexander didn't end up together, Summer would just be an ordinary person. Daphne could easily cut off her job and make her life difficult.

"I've thought about what you said last time." Sophia glanced at Daphne and pursed her lips. "I was wrong for not being sincere. I apologize."

"No need." Alexander's tone was cold.

Maybe it was because he had learned of the deception last time, or maybe he had grown a lot since then.

Alexander no longer had any thoughts of remarrying. Seeing Lydia and Daphne happy was enough for him.

"Alexander, are you really not giving me any chance?" Sophia seemed utterly defeated like that one sentence had drained all her energy.

For some reason, seeing this, Daphne thought of Charles pretending in front of her.

Daphne wondered, 'What is this behavior called?'

Before she could figure it out, Alexander spoke with a seriousness she had never heard before, "From the moment you falsely accused Daphne in front of me, there was no chance for us."

"Falsely accused Daphne?" Lydia caught the keywords.

Alexander looked at her, ready to speak but worried it might hurt Daphne.

Daphne, however, remembered clearly and said calmly, "On Mrs. Hayes' birthday, when I finished talking to her and was about to go home with you, do you remember what she said?"

Lydia thought for a moment and then recalled the conversation.

"Alexander, let's just forget it. Daphne is right; the gap between us is too big. If you really marry me, people in the circle will definitely talk about you."

"Summer and I will pack up and leave tomorrow. Thank you, Mr. Murphy, for your care and concern during this time."

Lydia repeated the conversation and asked, "Is it these two sentences?"

"Yes," Daphne responded lightly.

That day, Alexander had talked to Sophia, but she didn't ask what they discussed and didn't care much.

Lydia had talked to Alexander, but she didn't know the specifics of their conversation.

"I was just too afraid of losing you," Sophia explained, looking more anxious.

Alexander didn't respond; he didn't buy the explanation.

He wasn't the naive person he was before the arranged marriage. He had two daughters now. He wouldn't get angry over most things, but falsely accusing Daphne was something he couldn't accept.

"That's not a reason to falsely accuse Daphne. I understand you want to give Summer a good future," Alexander said seriously, "But the Murphy Group belongs to Lydia and Daphne. It has their mother's hard work in it and can't be given to her."

"I can establish and run another company. It's not difficult." Alexander had considered these things before, but now he was exhausted. "That company can be given to Summer."

"I'm sorry," Sophia apologized, her head down, her tone very low.

In reality, Sophia didn't accept this at all. Even if a new company was successful, it couldn't compare to the benefits of even a small share of the Murphy Group.

But now Sophia knew that if she refused again, she would really have nothing.

"If there's nothing else, please leave," Alexander said, ending the conversation.

The events of that day were still fresh in his mind.

After Daphne and Lydia left, Alexander asked Sophia if there was any misunderstanding between her and Daphne. He knew Daphne's character; if she didn't like Sophia, she would show it openly and wouldn't secretly sabotage.

However, Sophia had fabricated a conversation where Daphne was sharp and mean. At that moment, he knew Sophia was lying. Those words were not something Daphne would say.

Seeing that he didn't believe her at all, Sophia knew her plan had failed and honestly told him their real conversation.

Alexander didn't care about money. If Sophia had been honest from the start, he would have prepared a support system for Summer. But initially, Sophia's words and behavior showed no interest in money, only in him.

Because of the contrast between her words and actions, and her false accusation against Daphne, he cut off all thoughts of a future with her.

"Mr. Murphy," Summer was also anxious. "Can we really not go back to how things were?"

"No," Alexander refused.

First, it was falsely accusing Daphne. What would be next? Would she start scheming against his two daughters?

He couldn't be blamed for being overly suspicious. He had to be extra cautious with anyone who could harm his daughters.
