Chapter 510 Network of Relationships
Gavin strolled in like he owned the place, dragging Louis, Diana, and Lon along with him.
Hestia was on edge. She'd already made up her mind—if things went south, she'd kick them out pronto. No way was she dragging Gavin into this mess.
As soon as Gavin walked in, he spotted Gilbert lounging on the couch. And yeah, Gilbert saw him too.
For a split second, Gilbert thought he was seeing things. Gavin? Here?
Gavin plopped down on a nearby chair, flashing a lazy grin. "Long time no see, Mr. Fisher."
"What the hell are you doing here?" Gilbert's brow furrowed, voice low.
"Not my idea; Louis and Diana wanted to come." Gavin shrugged, holding Diana close. "She couldn't stand being away from Lon and insisted on keep him company on his way home."
Both Gilbert and Hestia turned their eyes to Lon.
Gilbert kept his cool and said, "Now that he's home, you can leave."
"Yeah, that's not happening," Gavin replied, all casual.
"I've got some important stuff to talk about with Lon's mom, so I'm not going anywhere," Gavin added.
"What stuff?" Gilbert pressed.
"I said it's important, so obviously, I can't tell you," Gavin shot back, clearly enjoying himself.
Gilbert was getting ticked off. He'd thought of everything but never imagined Hestia would be mixed up with Gavin. Those two were the last people he'd expect to be connected.
"First come, first served," Gilbert said, trying to keep his cool. "Mr. Murphy, if you've got something to discuss, why not come back tomorrow?"
Gavin wasn't having it. "Nope."
Gilbert's eyes narrowed. Gavin was really pushing his buttons.
"Fine, I won't interrupt your little chat." Gilbert knew sticking around was useless. "I'll come back tomorrow."
He got up from the couch, and as he passed Hestia, he added, "Gavin might protect you now, but not forever. I'll get the kids."
"Mr. Fisher, that's a bold claim," Gavin cut in, hating to see Gilbert bully anyone, especially Hestia. "From what I know, you haven't done squat for these kids in the past five years. How do you plan to claim them now?"
"Gavin," Gilbert's patience was wearing thin, his eyes icy. "Stay out of this; it's none of your business."
Gavin just smirked. "I'm making it my business."
Gilbert wondered if Gavin had lost his mind.
"Consider it a warning. The Murphy Group might be big, but with the four families united, you won't stand a chance," Gilbert threatened. "Stay out of things that don't concern you."
Gavin raised an eyebrow, looking totally unfazed. "You sure it's four families?"
Gilbert thought, 'Why wouldn't it be?'
"If I remember right, Emery from the McPherson family is all ears to his wife," Gavin said, always in the know.
Gilbert was confused. "What's your point?"
"My point is, Emery's wife is tight with my sister," Gavin continued. "Think he'd dare go against the Murphy Group?"
Gilbert knew Emery wouldn't dare cross that line.
Emery was totally whipped by his wife, Emma. The guy might be cold as ice, but when it came to Emma, he was putty in her hands.
"Even with just three families, it's enough," Gilbert snapped, clearly pissed.
"Go ahead, give it a shot," Gavin shrugged, not giving a damn. "Piss off Daphne, and you'll regret it."
Gilbert's brow furrowed.
Daphne?
"Look, we're all in the same game, so here's a tip," Gavin said, trying to be the voice of reason. "Don't do something you'll regret. If you want the kids, do it the right way. Visit them, care for them, but don't think about snatching them away."
"Otherwise, you'd be sorry."
Gilbert wasn't having it. "None of your business."
"If you push it, I'll have Evan file a lawsuit," Gavin threatened, still cool as a cucumber. "He's got time on his hands, and he'd love to see who the kids should really be with."
A chill ran down Gilbert's spine.
When did Evan get mixed up with Gavin? Evan was always that aloof, untouchable guy.
Rumor had it Evan didn't mess with anyone.
"Evan won't bother with this," Gilbert gambled. "He won't care."
"See you in court then?" Gavin raised an eyebrow.
Gilbert was stumped.
He glanced at Hestia and threw another curveball, "Even if he takes the case, you think she can afford those sky-high legal fees?"
No lawyer could guarantee a win every time.
But Evan could. He took on the toughest cases and still had a 100% win rate.
A lawyer like that didn't come cheap.
"No need!" Diana, who'd been quiet, piped up, sounding all innocent. "If I tell Evan that Lon is my good friend, he'll only charge a dollar!"
Gilbert frowned. If he thought Gavin was bluffing before, now he was starting to believe it.
Diana wouldn't lie.
"Are you really gonna help her?" Gilbert asked one last time.
Gavin nodded.
Gilbert didn't say another word. He just pulled out his phone and shot a message to Hestia: [If you want your family and friends to lose their jobs, keep letting Gavin help you.]
Hestia stiffened when she saw the message.
Lon noticed and guessed what was up. He bit his lip and finally asked, "Mom, is he threatening you again?"
"No," Hestia lied, not wanting him to worry.
Diana blinked. "Threatening?"
"Last time, Calla stood up for Mom and gave him a piece of her mind. He made sure Calla lost her job," Lon explained, thinking Gilbert was a total jerk.
"It's okay. If she loses her job, she can work for Gavin," Diana said innocently, her words sweet. "He's got tons of openings."
Louis nodded in agreement.
Gavin saw Hestia's worry and said, "The Murphy Group is always hiring. If there's no spot at the headquarter, we've got plenty of openings in our subsidiaries."
