Chapter 590 To Save Your Face

By the time it was past six in the morning, Jesse couldn't sleep anymore. He decided to get up and whip up some breakfast for Elara.

Elara, on her days off, was never an early riser. But today was different. When she reached over to hug Jesse and found an empty spot, curiosity got the best of her, and she opened her eyes.

"Jesse?" Elara called out.

Jesse, busy in the kitchen, didn't hear her because there were two doors between them.

Elara, with her hair all messy, sleepily opened the door and wandered out. Hearing noises from the kitchen, she stood outside and called again, "Jesse."

Jesse popped his head out. "What's up?"

"What are you cooking? It smells amazing," Elara said, sniffing the air as she walked toward the kitchen.

"Breakfast," Jesse replied. Seeing her come in, he quickly grabbed something from the side and hid it behind his back before walking over to chat with her.

Elara looked around and saw all her favorite foods laid out. Just as she was about to turn around and give him a playful pinch for being so sweet, a bouquet of flowers appeared in front of her.

Jesse, with a shy smile, said, "It's a gift for the second day of our relationship."

Elara's face lit up with a smile as she took the flowers.

From that day on, Jesse found new ways to show Elara how much he cared, proving with his actions that he was devoted to her.

In no time, half a month flew by.

That evening, Elara and Jesse were on a dinner date at a cozy couple's restaurant.

Looking at the handsome Jesse sitting across from her, Elara smiled and said, "Come sit next to me."

Jesse gave her a puzzled look.

Elara insisted, "Come on, sit by my side."

Though confused, Jesse moved over.

Elara took his hand, interlocking their fingers, and snapped a photo with her phone.

"Posting this on your Facebook," Elara said, letting go of his hand and sending him the photo. "After you propose, we'll plan the wedding."

Jesse nodded, even though he rarely shared his life on social media.

Looking at the photo Elara sent him, he asked, "Should we post a photo together?"

"No need, we'll post one together when we get married," Elara said, giving a reason that was hard to argue with, "If we take one now, it would need editing, which is a hassle."

"You're beautiful, no need for editing," Jesse replied earnestly.

"Though I love hearing that, we don't need to post a photo together now," Elara said while editing her post, "All my previous photos were edited before posting. If I post this directly, some people will definitely mock me."

Were the photos she posted edited?

Jesse asked cautiously, "Why do I feel like the photos you posted before don't look much different from the unedited ones?"

"I'll give you a chance to say that again," Elara said, her fist already clenched.

"I mean you look better in person than in photos," Jesse quickly corrected himself, "Next time I'll take the photos for you, no need for editing."

Elara was about to question his photography skills when her phone buzzed with several messages.

Evelyn: [You got a boyfriend?]

Evelyn: [Is it your left hand holding your right hand, taking a timed selfie?]

Evelyn: [You don't even dare to show his face.]

Elara sent a voice message to Evelyn, "I heard you broke up with your boyfriend a few days ago? Want me to introduce you to some guys to help you through the single period?"

Evelyn shot back, "You should introduce some to yourself, Elara. You've been single for 28 years."

"What's wrong?" Jesse noticed Elara looking a bit upset.

"She said I'm pretending to have a boyfriend," Elara answered angrily.

"Ignore her," Jesse said simply, "We know the truth, that's enough."

"No way," Elara was particularly sensitive about this. "Since she got her first boyfriend, she's been flaunting it in front of me, always mocking me for being single and unwanted!"

In the past, Elara would nonchalantly brush it off, but now, she had to clap back at Evelyn.

"Then let's take a photo together?" Jesse had heard the voice message.

Elara was still deep in thought when her phone vibrated. The caller was none other than Evelyn. Elara swiped to answer and put it on speaker, placing the phone between her and Jesse.

"You really have a boyfriend?" Evelyn's voice had a hint of skepticism.

Elara snorted, "Duh."

"Let's meet up tomorrow," Evelyn suggested, with a hint of laughter in her voice, "We can see who your boyfriend is."

"Where?" Elara accepted the invitation.

Sometimes she couldn't be bothered with these people, but in the same circle, they would inevitably meet. Avoiding them would only lead to more gossip.

"You choose, we're fine with anywhere." Evelyn said directly, "Just bring your actor boyfriend."

"What about..." Elara's eyes darted as she thought about a suitable place.

Jesse took the initiative and said, "Fresh Harvest Eatery."

Elara instinctively refused, "No way!" She didn't want to take that group to such a nice place. They didn't deserve it!

"Is that your boyfriend speaking?" Evelyn seemed to laugh, her words carrying a deep meaning, "Good choice, Fresh Harvest Eatery is indeed a great place to meet."

"Tomorrow at six, see you at the entrance," Jesse spoke.

Evelyn laughed and agreed.

Then the call ended.

Elara didn't even have time to speak before watching Jesse and Evelyn finish the call.

"Are you serious?" Elara was a bit upset. "Why arrange to meet that group at Fresh Harvest Eatery?"

"To save your face," Jesse said seriously.

"I don't need that kind of face-saving," Elara thought Jesse was both silly and endearing. "The main reason I agreed to this meeting is to show them I really have a boyfriend, so they can shut up when they see me."

Over the years, every time she came back or met within the circle, she would always run into them. They were unavoidable! And she couldn't openly fall out with them.

"No, I have to change the location." Elara took out her phone and opened the group chat. She had been forced into the group and had never said much in it. "I've never been there, why should they get to go because of you."

"If you change it, they'll gossip about you later," Jesse added.

Elara didn't care. "Whatever." As long as they didn't gossip about her being single or her crush, she didn't care.

"No need to change," Jesse, with his smart mind and cool tone, made people feel comfortable. "I said meet at the entrance of Fresh Harvest Eatery. After meeting, I'll only take you inside for dinner."
