Chapter 242 Daphne and Charles Ran Into Each Other

"Just inviting you for a meal. It's not a big deal." Benjamin's voice rang out. "Or do you think I'm so poor that I can't even afford to treat you?"

"Benjamin." Daphne wanted to slip away for the umpteenth time.

At this moment, she suddenly understood why they let her slip away when they heard the news.

Benjamin was constantly putting psychological pressure on her.

The elevator door opened.

Daphne felt the air pressure was a bit low, so she stepped out of the elevator, with Lydia following closely behind.

Benjamin, carrying a suitcase, followed them. Watching Daphne slip away quickly, a barely noticeable smile appeared in his charming eyes but disappeared in an instant.

After Lydia followed Daphne into the door, she sensed the subtle atmosphere between Benjamin and Daphne. "Daphne, do you have a bad relationship with Benjamin? Or did he offend you?"

Daphne replied, "No."

Lydia asked, "Then why don't you get along with him?"

Daphne paused while changing her shoes. "Do I?"

Lydia said, "Yes!"

Daphne said, "Maybe it's just my usual indifferent nature that made you misunderstand."

"No." Lydia knew Daphne well. "You're different with him compared to others. With others, you're distant and indifferent, but with him, it's more like you don't want to have too much contact or even talk much."

Daphne walked inside.

However, her heart was stirred by these words.

Benjamin knew them well; if Lydia noticed, he probably did too.

He shouldn't overthink it, right?

"Do you really have a conflict?" Lydia suddenly felt she had done something wrong, full of guilt.

If Daphne and Benjamin had a conflict, her actions and words just now would have caused trouble for Daphne, wouldn't they?

'I am indeed an idiot!' Lydia brooded.

"There is no conflict. We have a good relationship and trust each other," Daphne explained as she handed Lydia a cup of water, seeing her guilty expression. It's just that we haven't seen each other for a long time, and I don't know how to face him."

Lydia asked, "Really?"

Daphne replied, "Yes."

Lydia sighed in relief.

She came to her side and started gossiping, "Is there a possibility."

Daphne was puzzled. "What?"

"You like him." Lydia was testing. "Only when you secretly like someone would you not know how to face him."

Daphne was helpless.

Daphne handed her the water and gave her a look.

Even if she had feelings for Evan, she wouldn't have feelings for Benjamin.

Unless she wanted to be scolded by him.

Lydia held the cup, extremely puzzled.

Daphne didn't like him?

Then why was she acting so strangely?

"I'm going out tonight; are you eating here or going back?" Daphne thought about tonight's gathering and felt even more at a loss.

Lydia said, "I'll go back."

Lydia was just here to hang out with her.

Hearing this, Daphne called their driver to pick Lydia up later.

After finishing these tasks, she accompanied Lydia to watch TV.

In fact, her mind had already drifted elsewhere.

She was thinking about whether to cancel tonight's gathering. After all, it was to welcome Benjamin, and she had already seen him before. Whether she attended tonight or not shouldn't matter.

She could go after Emma and the others arrived.

Yes, that was it.

Unfortunately, sometimes plans couldn't keep up with changes. Before she could find an excuse not to go, Benjamin had already knocked on her door, asking her to go out.

Benjamin stood at her door, wearing a mid-length black coat. Just standing there, he was pleasing to the eye.

Lydia couldn't help but take a few more glances.

"Evan and Kevin called and asked us to go over now." Benjamin's voice was pleasant. "They asked me to tell you."

Daphne remained calm. "I still have a bit..."

"Daphne." Benjamin saw through her lie instantly.

Daphne felt guilty.

This was Benjamin; the last person who lied in front of him, Dominic, was punished.

Daphne said, "I'll go change my clothes."

Benjamin said, "Okay."

In no time, Daphne came out in more casual clothes.

She wore this so that if Benjamin wanted to punish her with frog jumps or something, it would be relatively easier to do.

Benjamin glanced at her, seemingly surprised by her sudden change in style.

However, he didn't say anything, as long as she liked it.

Daphne left after explaining to Lydia.

Sitting in the passenger seat next to Benjamin, Daphne felt for the first time that the car's space was too small. The car was so quiet that they could hear each other's breathing.

One second.

Two seconds.

Three seconds.

Several seconds passed, and Daphne didn't hear Benjamin start the car.

She glanced sideways, her expression as usual, and asked casually, "Benjamin, why aren't you driving?"

Benjamin said, "I'm thinking about something."

Daphne asked, "What?"

Benjamin said, "Why does someone always avoid me?"

Daphne remained calm, sitting there with her usual indifferent expression, but her mind was racing.

Why did she ask him?

Benjamin's traps were everywhere.

"If you can't figure it out for a while, why don't we switch places?" Daphne changed the subject. "I'll drive, and you can think slowly, so Kevin and Evan won't have to wait long."

Benjamin's demeanor was lazy and relaxed.

After glancing at her, he started the car and drove off.

All the way, Daphne's body was tense; she swore it was the most exhausting car ride she had ever taken.

Fortunately, after Benjamin started driving, he behaved and didn't say anything hard for her to answer.

When they arrived, Evan and Kevin were already there. They had agreed to rendezvous at a recreational sports facility that offered entertainment, leisure, and various sports activities, complete with a tennis court and a golf course.

Daphne and Benjamin followed the staff to the tennis court where Evan and the others were.

However, unexpectedly, they ran into Charles there.

By the tennis court, Evan and Kevin were about to greet Benjamin when they saw Daphne and Charles meet.

They looked at each other.

One was very calm, and the other had complex emotions.

Benjamin stood quite close to Daphne. Seeing them looking at each other without speaking, his lazy, deep voice rang out. "Do you know each other?"

"My ex-husband." Daphne could now calmly state this fact.

Charles had never felt such a strong sense of crisis.

His gaze shifted from Daphne to Benjamin. Seeing this flawless face, his heart was in turmoil.

Mark, standing by, couldn't help but take a few more glances at Benjamin.

His looks and demeanor were on par with Charles!

"Ms. Murphy." Mark was very curious., "Who is this?"

"My friend." Daphne's answer was simple.

The reason she didn't say Benjamin was her captain was to avoid suspicion and unnecessary explanations.
