Chapter 670 You Should Look to the Future
Charles paused for a moment, looking at Louis with more emotion in his eyes, afraid he was overthinking it. He asked more clearly, "What do you mean?"
"I think you know." Louis didn't make it particularly clear.
Charles raised his eyes.
If it was what he thought, wasn't Louis a bit too mature?
"I know about you and Mom," Louis, seeing that he wanted an answer, simply told him directly, "But that's in the past."
Charles, who was about to leave, sat back down after hearing this. Now he was sure that Louis was different from kids his age in terms of thinking and intelligence.
Charles sat on the single sofa next to him and got straight to the point. "How did you find out?"
"I looked it up." Louis didn't hide anything.
Charles's eyes flickered. "Looked it up?"
Louis replied, "Yes."
"Did you do it yourself or did someone help you with it?" Charles asked again.
"Myself, on the computer." Louis made it very clear, hoping Charles could really let go of Daphne. "I know you and Mom were together once."
"Really?" Charles suddenly got a bit interested.
He had always treated Louis as a child, so he hadn't joked around much, but now...
"So, who do you think is more suitable for your mom, me or Benjamin?" Charles's gaze fell on his face, expecting how he would answer.
Louis remained calm. "Based on Mom's choice, my dad is more suitable for her."
"If you had a choice, would you choose me as your dad or Benjamin?" Charles asked again.
Louis suddenly found him very childish, a boss of a big company asking such meaningless questions.
Charles didn't know Louis was complaining about him in his heart, he just naturally continued chatting with him. "Is it hard to choose?"
"My dad can be bad sometimes, but he's very responsible." Louis still defended Benjamin in this regard. "He keeps his promises to us and Mom, and his discipline is balanced."
Both Daphne and Benjamin were irreplaceable people in Louis's life.
"That's good." Charles's lips curved slightly, adding a bit of softness to his usually indifferent face.
"You should look to the future." Louis brought up the old topic again, he really hoped Charles could be happy too.
"I know what I'm doing." Charles stood up, raised his hand, and ruffled his hair when he wasn't expecting it. "Get some rest, good night."
Louis replied, "Good night."
Watching him close the door and go to sleep, Louis still felt a bit curious.
What exactly happened between Charles and Daphne?
Why couldn't Charles let it go?
This question remained unanswered for Louis even as he grew up, only knowing bits and pieces.
Early the next morning, Diana went to find Caspian because it was the last day, and she clung to Caspian all day, her eyes full of reluctance.
"Caspian, I'm going back to Gedser early tomorrow morning," Diana spoke softly, her wish straightforward. "Can you give me a smile before I go? I haven't seen you smile all these days."
Caspian's hands at his sides moved unconsciously.
He clearly had something to say to Diana, but when the moment came, he couldn't get the words out.
"Not even once?" Diana asked, puzzled.
Caspian still didn't speak.
Diana sat across from him, propping her head up, looking a bit troubled. "Do you not like playing with me?" Because he didn't like it, he didn't smile, and he didn't talk to her much.
"No..." Caspian was about to refute when Diana spoke again.
"It must be that I haven't found the right way." Diana looked for reasons in herself. "I'll ask Eddy when I go back, he likes to play and will definitely know how to make you interested in playing."
"Who's Eddy?" Caspian asked tentatively.
"Emma's neighbor," Diana said directly, not hiding anything. "Eddy is really fun!"
Seeing her speak with such enthusiasm and a big smile, Caspian's courage, which he had finally mustered, retreated again. Diana didn't need an extra playmate like him.
"Caspian," Diana called him.
Caspian pressed his lips together, looking troubled. "Yes?"
"You should be happier," Diana advised him patiently. "Don't always look so gloomy."
"You should go pack your things." Caspian changed the subject, still as lonely and cold as before. "I still have homework to do."
"Can't you play with me a little longer?" Diana asked reluctantly.
Caspian refused, "No."
"It's the last day," Diana pouted, not forgetting to praise herself, "Tomorrow when you wake up, you won't see cute and well-behaved me anymore."
"I'm going back." Caspian stood up and left.
Diana raised her voice unhappily, "Caspian!"
Caspian didn't look back, leaving quickly.
Diana stood there angrily watching him leave, and when he was out of sight, she angrily went back.
Seeing her like this, Louis looked up and asked her, "Who upset you?"
"No one." Diana was angry but didn't sell out Caspian.
She kept making excuses for Caspian.
Maybe he couldn't bear to see her leave, so he chose not to play with her on the last day, or maybe his homework was really important.
"Why aren't you playing with Caspian?" Louis saw through her at a glance.
Diana said sullenly, "He has things to do."
"Oh." Louis was indifferent.
After waiting for a while and not hearing Louis speak, Diana couldn't hold it in anymore. "Louis."
"Yes?" Louis responded casually.
"Am I cute?"
"Yes."
"Am I your most well-behaved, sensible, lively, and beautiful sister?" Diana said a string of praise words.
Louis paused with the book in his hand, seeing her ask so seriously, he didn't tease her. "Yes."
"Then why doesn't Caspian like playing with me? He hasn't smiled once all these days." Diana was still a child after all, unable to hold back her emotions. "Is it because my jokes aren't funny, or does he really not like me?"
Louis recalled their playing process.
With Caspian's personality, if he really didn't like playing with Diana, he would have found an excuse to refuse on the second day.
But Caspian didn't, he even let Diana hold his hand and jump around him.
"Louis!" Diana saw him zoning out and raised her voice with a bit of dissatisfaction.
Louis didn't give her a direct answer. "I'm not Caspian, I don't know his true thoughts."
"Liar." Diana looked at him fiercely, her momentum a bit strong. "You're so smart, how could there be something you don't know!"
