Chapter 616 She's an Idiot

Louis and Diana were the same age, but they were totally different. While Louis thought, 'If I don't step up, who's gonna look out for Diana when Mom and Dad retire, and she just wants to have fun? She's such a goof.'

Diana, on the other hand, wasn't thinking that far ahead. She figured people should just do stuff that fits their age.

Diana then bounced down the stairs, shared the news with Jesse and Elara, and started acting all cute and sweet with them.

During this time, Jesse and Elara got engaged and set a wedding date. As for Diana, she was on her best behavior to get Louis to be the flower child with her.

After school that day, Diana and Louis waited with their teacher for their parents to pick them up.

Lon saw Diana and walked over, looking puzzled. "Diana, why haven't you been hanging out with us lately?"

"I've got a ton of homework," Diana said seriously.

Lon offered, "Need help with tutoring?"

"No, thanks," Diana replied with a sweet smile, her pretty eyes serious, "If I don't get something, I can ask Louis. He's really good at it too."

Lon and Noe exchanged glances. They both sensed Diana was pulling away from them.

"Did I do something to upset you?" Lon, who had gotten pretty close to Diana, asked without his usual aloofness.

"Not at all," Diana replied kindly. "I've just been busy. Once I'm free, I'll hang out with you guys."

Louis cleared his throat, catching Diana's attention.

Realizing her slip, Diana immediately covered her mouth, her eyes wide with surprise.

"Is it because Louis doesn't like you hanging out with us?" Lon was smart and quickly guessed the gist of it.

"Of course not," Diana defended Louis. "Louis has always liked me hanging out with you guys. He doesn't have time to hang out with me, but he wants me to have friends."

Lon looked more skeptical.

Louis didn't hesitate to spill the truth, "Actually, that's not true."

"Louis!" Diana's voice rose slightly, with a hint of a reminder.

"I really don't like her spending all her time with you guys," Louis made his feelings clear.

Louis often wondered if Diana would date Lon when she grew up. If that happened, he'd probably be furious.

"Louis, Diana," the teacher called them gently. "Your mom is here to pick you up."

Their attention was immediately diverted. Louis quickened his pace towards Daphne, while Diana ran and jumped into Daphne's arms, happily exclaiming, "Mom!"

Daphne gently ruffled her hair.

Louis also approached, pursing his lips and leaning his head closer to her hand.

"Let's go home," Daphne said, ruffling his hair.

Receiving Daphne's affection, a rare smile appeared on Louis's usually reserved face, and his eyes brightened.

After Daphne got Diana and Louis into the car, she drove away. What she didn't know was that two men in a black Bentley nearby had witnessed the whole scene.

Austin watched the car until it disappeared, then glanced at Charles in the passenger seat. "Didn't you want to see her and her kids? Why didn't you get out of the car just now?"

"It's not the right time," Charles replied calmly.

"You're just meeting her and her kids, not starting an affair. What's so inappropriate about that?" Austin's words were as blunt as ever.

Charles pursed his lips, looking more mature and composed than before, his eyes unreadable. He had thought about getting out of the car and also considered what would happen afterward.

After so many years, even if he sat face-to-face with Daphne, Charles wouldn't know what to say. It was better not to meet rather than that.

"So, are you going to see them or not?" Austin asked Charles.

"I'll just see the kids," Charles decided. "I'll donate some money to the preschool and have the school organize an event for the kids. I'll see them then."

Austin sighed, "Do you have to go to such lengths?"

Charles didn't respond.

Austin didn't ask further.

After a while, the elementary school across the street also let out.

Austin immediately got out of the car to pick up Molly.

Molly saw him and happily ran over, calling out, "Dad!"

"Get in the car," Austin spoke, very pleased and doting on Molly. "I want to introduce you to someone."

Molly looked puzzled but got in the car.

Austin introduced Charles to her right away, "This is my other good friend besides Matt, his name is Charles."

"Hello, Charles," Molly greeted politely.

"Hello," Charles replied, softening his voice as much as possible. "There's a gift for you on the seat. I didn't know what you liked, so I asked your dad to help pick one."

"Thank you," Molly responded politely.

"You're welcome," Charles replied, then turned his head.

Austin started the car and headed home, chatting with Charles along the way. Once home, they prepared to have dinner.

Daisy happened to be home resting and was surprised to see Charles, but quickly returned to normal and greeted him, "Mr. Lancelot."

"Sorry for the intrusion," Charles nodded slightly, his lips parting to speak.

Daisy paused, noticing that Charles seemed different, since he would never have spoken so politely and gently before.

"Would you like something to drink?" Daisy asked courteously.

"You make sure Molly washing her hands, I'll handle it," Austin offered, having learned how to love over the years.

A moment later, Austin poured Charles a glass of water, and they all sat down to eat. After dinner, the nanny brought out some fruit.

"I'll help Molly with her homework," Daisy uttered, leaving the space for Charles and Austin, knowing they had things to discuss. "Take your time."

"Okay," Austin replied gently.

Watching them, Charles's eyes flickered, and he asked, "Do you live together?"
