Chapter 353 Confession

Benjamin listened to the automated message on his phone: "The number you have dialed is currently busy."

He glanced at Charles, who was also on his phone, and wasn't surprised.

Charles had snapped out of it; he wasn't going to let Benjamin's confession go smoothly.

"Why are you calling me?" Daphne asked Charles, ignoring Benjamin.

"Benjamin's confessing to someone he likes, so I figured I'd do the same," Charles said, eyes full of affection. "Daphne, I like you. Will you be my girlfriend?"

Everyone's eyes turned to Daphne.

Emma and the others were nervous for Benjamin, but he seemed calm, like he didn't care.

Charles urged, "Daphne."

"No..." Daphne started to say.

Suddenly, the door burst open, and confetti filled the room.

Charles pocketed his phone, stood up, and took a bouquet of roses from Mark.

Bodyguards lined up, making a path for him.

Charles walked towards Daphne, eyes only on her.

He handed her the flowers. "Daphne, I like you. Will you be with me?"

"Be with him!"

"Be with him!"

"Be with him!"

The bodyguards chanted.

Mark stood there, anxious. He was sure Charles would be rejected.

"Stop it." Daphne stood up, not taking the flowers, her eyes cold.

"I'm serious," Charles said softly, stepping closer. "I really like you. I want you in my future. I know I've hurt you before, but give me a chance to make it right."

Daphne frowned.

Charles asked again, "Daphne, will you be my girlfriend?"

"No," Daphne said without hesitation.

Charles smiled, still holding the bouquet. He leaned in. "Can I know why?"

"I don't like you," Daphne said, finding Charles suddenly unpredictable. "I've told you before."

She knew this might make Charles extreme or obsessive, but she couldn't promise something she couldn't deliver. False hope was the worst harm.

"Why don't you like me?" Charles asked, dropping the pretense. "You told me to be obedient, and I was. You told me not to lie, and I confessed everything. I did everything you asked, so why don't you like me?"

Daphne was at a loss for words.

Charles's eyes darkened. "Is it because of the past?"

"No," Daphne denied.

"You're lying," Charles said, placing a hand on her face, his eyes intense. "If you really didn't care, why not accept me?"

"I don't have feelings for you," Daphne replied. "Just because you listen to me doesn't mean I have to like you. I'd have to respond to a lot of people's feelings if that were the case."

Evan adjusted his glasses, and Emma pressed her lips to hide a smile. It was serious, but somehow funny.

"I don't mind you responding to others," Charles said, his possessiveness growing. "As long as I'm the one you like the most."

Daphne was at a loss. Shouldn't he leave after being rejected?

"I'll ask you the last time," Charles said, handing her the bouquet again. "Will you be my girlfriend?"

"No," Daphne said directly.

Charles smiled, stuffing the flowers into her hands. "I'll make you agree."

He turned and walked out. Daphne, worried, put the flowers aside and chased after him. "Charles!"

"Stop her," Charles ordered coldly, striding out.

The bodyguards blocked the door. Daphne could break through, but Mark stopped her.

"Ms. Murphy, leave Mr. Lancelot to me," Mark said. "I'll keep you updated."

Daphne paused, then agreed. "Okay."

Mark nodded and left with the bodyguards. The room fell silent.

Emma and the others knew Benjamin's confession wouldn't happen today. The atmosphere was too tense.

"Benjamin, Emma," Daphne said, worried about Charles. "I'm going home. You guys continue."

"I'll take you," Benjamin offered.

"No need," Daphne refused. She needed to deal with Charles. His reaction suggested his mind was back to normal.

She didn't know what Brian was up to, but she needed him back given Charles's state.

Daphne left, and the driver took her home since she'd been drinking.

Emma looked around. "Benjamin, when will you tell Daphne?"

"After Charles's issue is resolved," Benjamin said. He didn't want to pressure Daphne. "Be careful going back. I have something to handle."

Relying on Brian felt unreliable. There was a deal between Charles and Brian, and without knowing the details, it was better to be prepared.

"Okay," Emma and the others agreed.

Everyone left, and Benjamin's confession remained unresolved, just as Charles wanted.
