Chapter 72 Daphne's First Love
Evan wasn't very interested in this kind of thing either, so he randomly made a request, and Charles completed it before moving on to the next round. Four times in a row, it hadn't been Daphne's turn. Soon enough, the fifth round began.
"I have the big one," Rex said casually with an indiscernible trace of amusement in his eyes, and he asked,"Who has the small one?"
"Not me."
"Not me."
"Not me."
After Evan, Austin, and Samuel spoke, Rex's gaze fell upon his brother and Daphne. The game had officially begun!
Daphne opened the disc and looked at it, accepting it calmly,"It's me."
"Truth or dare?" Rex was already familiar with the routine.
Thinking about what they had just played, Daphne hesitated. The conditions were all incomplete, the whole thing was outrageous, but she made her choice.
"Dare." She didn't feel like playing Truth or Dare.
"No swap?"
"No swap."
"Call your first love on speakerphone and tell him you miss him." Rex, had already prepared the question.
Whether Daphne chose truth or dare, it would always involve her first love. He just wanted to see Daphne talking to her first love on the phone. He wanted to make Charles feel jealous.
Upon hearing this, Daphne paused, and her hand holding the small pastry became stiff. Evan's gaze also fell on her, with a complex expression that nobody else could understand.
"I'll drink." Daphne whispered before picking up the cup of alcohol on the table and drank it, one cup after another. When she finished the last cup, she placed it on the table, making a loud thud. Her hand didn't leave the cup for a long time.
This scene made everyone in the room collectively think that Daphne's first love was from her, untouchable, past and mentioning it would bring her sorrow.
Charles's grip on the small pastry tightened involuntarily. Daphne's first love...who could it be?
"Daphne, are you okay?" Even Rex hadn't expected this.
In his view, even though Daphne had married Charles, any profound memories of her first love should have faded away, and at least they could be talked about as a joke. But Daphne's expression was far from indicating that she had let go.
"I'm fine." Daphne's head felt a bit dizzy, but she tried to stay clear and said,"Let's continue."
Rex looked at her worriedly, then glanced at Evan and his brother before ultimately collecting the white pastry and redistributing them after shuffling.
Rex had some ulterior motives. This time, he didn't deliberately give the small one to Daphne; he felt that Daphne might need some time to process the matter of her first love.
He could never have expected that when he randomly distributed the pastries, it would give Charles the big letter again, and the small one appeared in Daphne's hands once more!!
Even Rex couldn't help but feel a bit unsettled. He knew his brother's personality well.
When Daphne saw the small pastry appearing in her hands once again, her first thought was that Rex was playing a trick on her. But when she looked up at him and saw his surprised and somewhat complicated expression, she knew it was just a coincidence.
Charles clenched the small pastry tightly in his hand, but his tone was not much different from usual:"Do you choose truth or dare?"
"Dare." Daphne stuck with this answer. Charles's gaze grew deeper, as if he didn't want her to avoid her past. But the more she tried to hide it from him, the more he wanted to know.
He placed the big-lettered pastry on the tabletop with a heavy feeling and pinned his heavy gaze on Daphne.
He slowly said each word, "Send me your first love's name, profession, and age on my phone."
Everyone was shocked. Could it be like this? Daphne also looked at him with a puzzled expression, and wondered ‘Is he a bit slow? Does he not even know his own occupation, name, or age?’
"Why, are you afraid to let me know?" Charles felt uncomfortable under her gaze, as if he had greatly aggrieved her. He really wanted to know. Exactly who was the person that became her first love and made him unforgettable all these years?
"You are neurotic." Daphne said, while having another three drinks. Evan was a little worried about her condition. Daphne didn't have a great tolerance for alcohol; she didn’t tend to drink very often.
When she finished her third drink, Evan called out to her,"Stop drinking."
"Mm." Daphne responded.
After finishing her second round of three drinks, she also realized one thing: Charles and the others probably thought she had an unforgettable first love. She didn't bother explaining to them, rather letting them misunderstand.
She didn't say it was Charles simply because she couldn't be bothered with certain people.
"Let's call it a night here." Evan took the initiative. Daphne, being drunk, was quite troublesome. "Daphne has had a bit too much to drink; her alcohol tolerance isn't great."
Charles spoke up, holding in his anger,"If her alcohol tolerance is poor, she can choose not to drink or speak. No one is forcing her to."
"Continue." Daphne was already a bit intoxicated and couldn't stand being provoked.
"Daphne."
"I can handle it." Evan squeezed his brow.
In a low voice that only the two of them could hear, he said,"Have you forgotten what you did when you got drunk four years ago?"
Daphne froze, momentarily appearing uncomfortable. Charles watched them being so close, wishing he could separate them with his gaze. But his pride and arrogance kept him seated there, motionless.
"Can't handle it Daphne? Then why don't you just stop?" he remarked, in a cold and indifferent voice.
"Come." Daphne blurted out.
It was then that several of them realized that something was off with Daphne. Normally, if she didn't want to play, she wouldn't. No matter how much they provoked her, she would act like she couldn't be bothered. But now, just because of one of Charles' comments, she agreed.
"Mr. Winston, is Daphne okay?" Rex hesitated for a moment, asking in advance in case something went wrong.
Charles and the others turned their gaze toward him. The former's face turned pale, and the latter two had unclear expressions. He doesn't even ask Charles about Daphne's situation and instead asks others. What a good younger brother!
Rex also knew that this question was not quite appropriate, but he knew he couldn't get an answer if he asked Charles, whereas Evan might know.
Evan pondered for a moment, before he gave his answer, but his gaze never left Daphne. "As long as she doesn't drink anymore, there won't be any major issues."
Charles pushed the six small cakes toward Rex's side and said coldly,"Take them."
"What are we doing?” Daphne asked.
“We are going to keep going," Charles retorted in response to Daphne's question, about celebrating their divorce.
"Really continue?" Daphne questioned.
"Isn't this supposed to be a celebration of our divorce?" Charles countered with a single sentence.
"Fine," Rex gave in, not caring much since Evan was there. He didn't have to worry too much about Daphne. "Continue."
