Chapter 238 Are You Asking Me to Be a Freeloader?

Benjamin's eyes flickered slightly, and he replied: [I don't plan to come back for now.]

Henry: [!!!]

Henry: [You little brat, do you want me to beat you? Your mom and I raised you for what? We barely see you once or twice a year, and now that you're retired, you still don't plan to come home?]

Henry: [I'm warning you that if you don't come back, your mom and I will expand our family]

Benjamin stared at the message and replied directly: [If you're not worried about your wife's health, go ahead.]

Seeing his reply, Henry was furious. He deleted Benjamin without hesitation.

Benjamin thought, ' You little brat!''Let me see if you dared not to come back for the rest of your life.'

Benjamin: [I'm busy with my lifelong plans.]

As soon as he sent the message, he realized Henry had deleted him.

Benjamin was speechless.

His dad was so childish.

"Benjamin, we've arrived at the place you wanted to go." Daphne parked the car next to a mall that combined dining and shopping.

Benjamin glanced over. "Let's go to the parking lot."

Daphne was puzzled.

Why did he want to go to the parking lot?

"Let's have a meal together." Benjamin's demeanor was very pleasant, and he had a good-looking face. "I need to bribe my future boss."

Daphne said, "Benjamin."

She felt like Benjamin was deliberately teasing her.

Of course, she still drove to the parking lot.

To avoid constant calls later, Benjamin sent a friend request to his dad and messaged his mom.

Emma replied quickly: [Alright, you focus on your work. Your dad is at home.]

Seeing that the matter was resolved, Benjamin felt relieved.

The meal they had was relatively peaceful.

Daphne originally wanted to pay the bill, but Benjamin paid it directly.

After the meal, Daphne thought about driving Benjamin home, but Benjamin refused. "My home isn't in this area; I don't plan to go back for now. I need to find a place to stay first."

Daphne asked, "What?"

Benjamin said, "I'll be working at the company soon, so I need to find a place close by."

Benjamin wasn't lying about this.

His house was too far from HorizonTech Group; driving to work would mean being stuck in traffic from morning till afternoon.

The position was inappropriate.

"You can stay at my place." Daphne genuinely cared for Benjamin. "I have another apartment next to the one I live in, and it's close to the company."

Benjamin didn't know how to describe his feelings.

He gently tapped her forehead with his finger. "Daphne."

Daphne asked, "What?"

"You should be more cautious around men." Benjamin felt complicated, thinking she was a bit naive.

He would be happy to live close to her, but he didn't want her to trust someone too easily, as it could lead to her getting hurt.

"I know," Daphne explained, "But you're different from others; you're our captain."

Whether it was her, Evan, or Kevin, they all admired Benjamin.

Whenever Benjamin faced difficulties, they would help him just as he had helped them in the past.

They were like family.

Because of this, there was no spark between Evan and Daphne, and Daphne never thought Benjamin would have any ill intentions.

Hearing her words, Benjamin's eyes deepened.

Should he be grateful that she trusted him so much, or sad that she didn't see him as a potential romantic partner?

"Get in the car, Benjamin." Daphne saw the complexity in his eyes but didn't think much of it.

After all, she couldn't guess his true thoughts at that moment.

Benjamin, with one hand in his pocket, stood there like a protagonist straight out of a comic book.

He exuded an air of nobility, laziness, and a touch of elegance.

After a moment of hesitation, he got in the car.

Daphne took him to the apartment complex where she usually stayed for work, gave him the key to the neighboring apartment, and let him register his fingerprint for the door lock.

"The guest room has new towels and toiletries." Daphne had everything arranged perfectly. "Bring your clothes over tomorrow, and you can officially move in."

Benjamin's lips parted slightly. "Okay."

Seeing that everything was settled, Daphne was about to leave.

Just as she stepped out and was about to open her door, she received a text message on her phone.

It was a notification from her bank.

$150,000.

She looked at the message, and the sender was Benjamin.

She frowned and knocked on the door.

Benjamin quickly opened it, now only wearing a white shirt, looking elegant and noble. "What's up?"

"This." Daphne handed over her phone.

Benjamin glanced at it and said naturally, "Rent."

Daphne said, "No need."

Benjamin said, "I must do it."

"I don't need money or a place to stay," Daphne said seriously.

Benjamin had money, and his family seemed well-off, but he didn't need to pay this amount.

Benjamin's lips curved slightly.

Daphne opened her banking app and transferred the money back to him. "Don't send me money again. This place is just sitting empty, and you staying here will bring some life to it."

"Are you asking me to be a freeloader?" Benjamin teased, still in his casual tone.

Daphne froze.

She stood there, stiff.

"Just take the money," Benjamin negotiated, "If you really don't want to, consider it six months' rent."

This was a prime area in Gedser, close to the company.

A four-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment with a large balcony in this area would cost nearly $20,000 a month to rent.

"I'm your teammate, and I can support you," Daphne said earnestly, returning to her calm demeanor, "You're not freeloading; we're just helping each other."

Benjamin asked teasingly, "Do you want to do frog jumps? Or do you want to do weighted runs?"

Daphne said, "I'm going to sleep."

Daphne left, not transferring the money back.

At worst, she would increase his salary and bonuses later.

Back in her room, she looked at the $150,000 transfer and pondered.

She then called Evan.

When the call connected, Daphne didn't beat around the bush and asked directly, "Do you know what the background of Benjamin's family is?"

"I'm not sure; I never asked." Evan's tone remained calm. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Daphne said, "He's back."

Evan asked, "You met him?"

Daphne replied, "Yes."

Evan asked, "Why do you seem distracted?"

"I'm thinking about what position to arrange for Benjamin." Daphne thought Evan might have some insight. "He's starting at HorizonTech Group on Monday."

Evan raised his eyebrows, a bit surprised.

Benjamin was moving fast in pursuing her.

"Do you have any suggestions?" Daphne asked him.

"Benjamin isn't very familiar with office work. Let him stay by your side to get acquainted first and see what he's good at." Evan was a great wingman. "Once you understand his strengths, you can assign him a suitable position."
