Chapter 267 Really Know How to Cause Trouble

He shoved Brian aside, signaling him to step back, and then turned to Daphne. "You head back first. I need to talk to him."

"He's not a good person," Daphne warned.

Brian smirked, one hand in his pocket. "Ms. Murphy, isn't it a bit rude to badmouth me right to my face?"

Daphne shot back, "So, making unreasonable demands is a good thing?"

Brian raised an eyebrow, genuinely curious. Who was Daphne, and why did she seem to know him so well?

"Do we know each other?" Brian asked.

"No," Daphne replied, clearly not wanting to engage further.

Unless absolutely necessary, she wouldn't tell him she was K.

"Then why the hostility?" Brian drawled. "I just saved your life."

Daphne stayed silent. She didn't want to admit it, but it was true.

"You think you saved her life?" Charles suddenly interjected.

Brian kept smiling, cursing Charles inwardly for being a sly businessman, playing mind games at a time like this.

He quickly changed his tune. "No, it was you who saved her."

"You go back first," Charles said, feeling dizzy and hearing a buzzing in his ears. He knew he couldn't hold on much longer. "I'll contact you once I'm better. He still needs my help; he won't abandon me."

He nudged Brian with his elbow.

Brian, unsure of Charles's intention, still spoke up. "He's right."

Daphne asked, "Are you really not coming with me?"

Charles replied, "I have things to do."

With that simple sentence, Daphne saw the distance in Charles's eyes.

She wanted to force him into the car to go to the hospital, but given their current relationship, it didn't seem appropriate.

Since he insisted, she couldn't argue further.

If they kept talking, it would only delay the best time for Brian to get him treated.

In the end, she said, "Call me if you need anything. Don't trust Brian easily; he's as cunning as you are."

"Okay," Charles said, just wanting Daphne to leave quickly. He couldn't hold on any longer. "I'll listen to you."

Daphne walked a few steps, looked back, but eventually left.

Even though Brian was a psychiatrist, he had many friends in the medical field. Despite Charles's severe fever, he could still be treated.

"Your ex-wife is really something," Brian said, one hand in his pocket. "She keeps badmouthing me right in front of me."

Charles responded indifferently, watching Daphne disappear.

Brian chuckled, about to mock. "You..."

He didn't finish his sentence when he saw Charles faint.

"Charles!" Brian caught him just in time.

He was about to say something when he felt a wet spot where his hand touched. He remembered the gunshot they had mentioned earlier.

A bad feeling crept over him.

He pulled his hand from Charles's back and saw blood on his palm.

His eyes scanned the yacht and saw a few drops of blood where Charles had been standing.

"Charles," Brian gritted his teeth. "You really know how to cause trouble. No wonder you were so eager to send your ex-wife away."

He had thought it was some sense of duty, but it turned out Charles was trying to deceive Daphne.

Frowning, he took out his phone and made a call.

In no time, Charles was taken away.

Meanwhile, on Daphne's side...

She turned down the ride Brian had arranged for her. Just as she was about to borrow a phone to call Benjamin, she saw him driving towards her, looking worried.

The car stopped in front of her.

Benjamin opened the door and gave her a once-over. "Are you okay?"

"I'm fine," Daphne replied, shaking her head.

"What about Charles?" Benjamin asked.

With such a severe gunshot wound, it would be dangerous if not treated in time.

"Brian took him away. He said he'd find the best doctor for Charles," Daphne answered truthfully.

Hearing this, Benjamin felt a bit relieved. He knew Brian; with him around, Charles should be fine.

"That's good," Benjamin said, feeling more at ease. "Get in the car."

"Okay," Daphne agreed.

Once in the car, Daphne asked if Benjamin was hurt. After he assured her he wasn't, she felt relieved.

The car headed towards Gedser.

Butterfly Island was a five to six-hour drive from Gedser, with no airports or train stations nearby. Driving on the highway was the fastest option.

From the moment she got in the car, Daphne felt inexplicably uneasy. This feeling intensified once they hit the highway.

Benjamin noticed her discomfort. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Daphne said, taking a deep breath to calm herself and shifting her focus.

"Everything on Butterfly Island has been handed over to them. Michael and his men have all been captured," Benjamin explained, thinking she was worried about this. "As for the bombs on Butterfly Island and the ship, they've destroyed the switches and will find them all."

"Okay," Daphne replied, her tone somewhat indifferent.

She didn't ask how Benjamin knew there were bombs on Butterfly Island.

Their organization had the most advanced micro-scanning drones. A quick scan of the terrain would reveal any buried bombs.

"Daphne," Benjamin called.

"Yes?" she responded.

"Were you scared?" Benjamin glanced at her, the car still moving forward.

Given Daphne's past experiences, it was unlikely she was scared, but her current state was unusual, making him suspicious.

Daphne also realized she was acting strangely, and her head was shaken. "No, I was just thinking about what deal Charles made with Brian. Given Brian's character, he wouldn't help without significant terms."

When she left, she saw that the number of people Benjamin brought and the number of people Brian brought were equal.

Without either group, things wouldn't have gone so smoothly.

"We'll investigate slowly when we get back," Benjamin said, worried about her state. "You should sleep for a while. I'll wake you when we get home."

Daphne wanted to refuse, but she hadn't rested well in the past two days. Now that the danger was gone, she wasn't as tense, and fatigue set in.

She agreed and closed her eyes to rest.

Benjamin drove for five to six hours with full concentration.

He received a call from Kevin and the others, informing them that Daphne was safe and on her way back, then hung up.

When they arrived in Gedser, it was past five in the afternoon.

Daphne and Benjamin got out of the car together. She hadn't slept much in the car, waking up around two.

They took the elevator upstairs. Perhaps due to the many experiences or their thoughts, they didn't talk much.
