Chapter 236 Give Me a Bodyguard or Secretary Position

However.

When she saw the person standing behind her, she was stunned.

Why was her captain here?

Luke's voice interrupted her daze. "I thought you weren't coming."

"When have I ever broken a promise?" Benjamin's deep, pleasant voice resonated as he stood tall at 6 feet, exuding a handsome charm.

"Alright." Luke intended to give them some time alone. "You don't need to say these formalities to me. I'll go check if the food is ready. You two chat first."

Benjamin nodded slightly, projecting an aura of nobility. "Okay," he responded as soon as Luke departed, leaving the air abruptly silent.

Daphne was not one to shy away.

She remained composed when she accompanied Charles to meet his parents.

But now she was really scared.

"You look so nervous seeing me?" Benjamin saw her looking a bit silly and teased her.

Daphne remained silent.

How could she not be nervous?

Benjamin took a long stride and sat down in the spot where Luke had been, saying, "Sit."

Daphne obediently sat down.

She was still puzzled. Hadn't he mentioned he would return on the 7th of this month?

Today seemed to be the 6th.

"Do you need me to arrange a weighted run to warm you up?" Benjamin poured her a glass of water, his tone casual. "To help you relax?"

Daphne was helpless, that wasn't necessary!

"Daphne." Benjamin called her.

Daphne responded reflexively, "Huh?"

"Let's have a game of chess."

"It's almost dinner time."

"Mr. Smith hasn't said it's time to eat yet."

Usually able to stay composed, Daphne found herself preoccupied, constantly fretting about the impending conversation Benjamin had mentioned.

This left her feeling slightly anxious.

As Benjamin methodically arranged the chess pieces, he noticed her distracted state and spoke deliberately, "Would you prefer me to discuss the last time you used me as an antidote, or shall we engage in a game of chess?"

"Chess."

Daphne answered without hesitation.

Benjamin's deep eyes looked at her. "You got married once and became more timid?"

"Huh?"

"Weren't you quite bold before?"

"Bold people become timid in your presence," Daphne swiftly changed the subject, glancing up at him. "Evan mentioned you were due back on the 7th. Why the early return?"

Benjamin's thin lips pressed slightly, his short hair made him look tough and handsome, refined yet noble, and because of the white shirt, he looked very gentle.

Seeing him like this, Daphne was stunned.

A thought popped into her head,' Benjamin doesn't seem that bad-looking.'

If Kevin and Gavin knew this thought, they would definitely scold her for having no taste.

Benjamin was clearly very handsome!

"That was a lie to you." Benjamin said casually.

Daphne couldn't keep up. "What?"

"I intended to prevent you from leaving early," Benjamin's eyes seemed to see through everything. "If I'm not mistaken, you planned to depart from Gedser by plane after conversing with Luke, correct?"

Daphne held her forehead.

As expected.

Benjamin, too smart, sometimes it wasn't a good thing.

"Are you afraid I'll hold you responsible for last time?" Benjamin said this casually, but it was also a test.

"No." Daphne was being honest; she didn't believe that Benjamin, who appeared tough and unemotional, would actually have feelings. "I just don't want to face consequences like weighted runs and frog jumps."

Benjamin's eyes flashed with understanding.

It seemed he had to take it slow.

Daphne felt this topic was a bit dangerous, so she changed it. "Why are you back? On vacation?"

"Retired." Benjamin's thin lips opened slightly, saying one word.

Daphne was dumbfounded.

Daphne stopped what she was doing. "Retired?"

"Yes."

"Why?"

Benjamin's talents in the organization were top-notch; he led the team to complete many difficult tasks and received many medals.

Most importantly, his future was very promising.

Why did he retire?

"I was seriously injured in a mission a year ago; the doctor said I couldn't do high-intensity training every day." Benjamin didn't hide it from her. "Anyway, the successor has been trained, so I retired."

Daphne's heart clenched as she pondered why he didn't disclose the injury to them, but then recalled that some missions were classified and couldn't be discussed.

So she changed the topic. "How's your injury now?"

"I've recovered, just can't do high-intensity training every day." Benjamin knew she was worried and reassured her.

Daphne also signed in relief and asked something else, "Did they let you go?"

With his exceptional skills, maintaining his stay was effortless even if high-intensity training wasn't daily.

They would surely find a solution to retain him unless he was set on departing.

Benjamin suddenly smiled, his tone still as casual as ever. "I said I would transfer to their place, and they all refused."

Daphne wisely didn't say anything.

That was because they were afraid of being tricked by him.

Besides training, he was easy to get along with, but he always unintentionally tricked you.

Evan's cunning way of handling things was learned from Benjamin.

"So now you are..."

"Unemployed."

Daphne refused to talk to him.

If he wanted, countless public positions were waiting for him.

And he pretended to be unemployed.

"Does your company hire?" Benjamin's thoughts were so deep that Daphne couldn't guess. "Give me a bodyguard or secretary position."

Daphne was dumbfounded.

Benjamin not only retired with significant benefits but also came from a respectable family background.

Although she wasn't privy to his family's exact income, she vaguely recalled Luke mentioning that they were financially comfortable.

"Ms. Murphy, are you afraid my skills aren't good enough to protect you?" Benjamin's tone was still casual, no one could guess his thoughts.

Daphne became even more uneasy.

The last time he referred to Kevin as Mr. Thomas, he was penalized with a ten-kilometer weighted run.

She couldn't stay calm, thinking of talking to him properly, "Captain."

"I'm not a captain now, call my name."

"Huh?"

"Benjamin."

Daphne took a sip of water.

In that moment, she longed for a few more friends to be present, just to provide some support against his overwhelming presence.

She felt Benjamin was definitely holding a grudge about the last time she used him as an antidote.

"Ms. Murphy, If you don't approve, I'll need to send my resume to HorizonTech Group on the 8th of this month," Benjamin stated calmly, his long fingers grasping the chess piece as he projected an air of confidence. "I believe my skills should secure the position."

Daphne was speechless, not only would he succeed, but he would also be directly promoted to head of security.

"Do you really want to find a job?" She didn't know his family's exact situation and wouldn't check.
