Chapter 426 She Even Began to Suspect if There Were Any Ulterior Motives
"Benjamin?" Daphne called out, kinda puzzled, not really getting why he just barged in.
Benjamin strolled in, shut the door, and eyed the envelope in her hand, flashing that charming grin of his. "What's in the envelope? Lemme see."
"Nope!" Daphne shot back, quickly hiding the envelope behind her back.
Benjamin started walking towards her.
Daphne kept backing up until she hit the wall.
Benjamin stood right in front of her, leaning in close. "What's in there that you can't show me?"
"I'm not telling you," Daphne said.
"You sure about that?" Benjamin asked.
"Yeah, I'm sure," Daphne said, standing her ground.
"If I decide to take it, you probably can't stop me," Benjamin said, his smile getting even bigger. "You really won't let me see it?"
She knew he was right. She wasn't as tall, strong, or skilled as he was.
"No, if you take it, I'll be mad," Daphne tried to reason with him, feeling a bit unsure. "I won't talk to you for three days."
"So fierce?" Benjamin's grin widened.
Daphne nodded. Seeing her reaction, Benjamin felt an urge to pinch her soft cheeks.
How could she be so adorable?
"If you kiss me, I won't take it," Benjamin said, giving himself an out.
Even though she didn't kiss him, he wouldn't take it anyway. So why kiss?
Benjamin, teased by her puzzled look, leaned in and planted a kiss on her lips, wrapping his arms around her waist.
Their breaths mingled, the temperature rose, and the vibe got way more intimate.
Benjamin finally gave her lips a gentle bite, his voice husky. "Remember to come out when you're done. I'm waiting downstairs for a hug."
"Okay," Daphne replied.
As soon as she spoke, she realized her voice had dropped significantly.
Benjamin chuckled, gave her another kiss on her lips, then let her go, ruffling her soft hair before leaving the room.
Daphne watched him leave. After the door closed, she touched her lips, feeling the lingering sensation, her cheeks slightly flushed.
How did it come to a kiss?
After calming her heartbeat, she opened the envelope Anouk had given her. Inside was a card and a folded piece of paper.
She intended to take both out together but paused when she felt the card.
It didn't feel like a business card, more like a bank card.
Daphne immediately took it out. It was a black card.
She had one of these too. Why did Anouk give her this?
Daphne took out the other piece of paper, which said the card belonged to Benjamin and was now entrusted to her. It also mentioned Benjamin's nickname.
Seeing the nickname, Daphne was momentarily stunned.
Her first reaction was that the nickname didn't suit Benjamin at all, and it was kinda funny.
Daphne put the paper away and went downstairs to find Benjamin with the black card.
When he saw the card, he wasn't surprised at all. Through their conversation, Daphne learned that Anouk had planned to give it to him earlier, and he had asked them to keep it as a gift for his future daughter-in-law.
Daphne tried to give the card back, saying, "I shouldn't keep it. We're not married yet."
But Benjamin stubbornly handed it back, saying, "It's yours sooner or later. Just take it."
"Then answer me one question," Daphne demanded.
"What?" Benjamin asked.
"What's your nickname?" Daphne still wanted to hear it from him.
Benjamin paused, then gave her a once-over before speaking in a low, slow voice, "Did you visit my parents to find out my nickname?"
Was it that obvious?
"They didn't tell you?" Benjamin said, pinching her cheek. How had he not noticed Daphne's scheming before?
"I didn't ask," Daphne said innocently.
"Still cheating?" Benjamin asked.
"I really didn't ask," Daphne said earnestly.
Benjamin snorted lightly.
If they hadn't been spending so much time together lately, or he hadn't noticed how much more cunning she had become, he might have been fooled.
"I did ask," Daphne admitted under his gaze. "But Anouk didn't tell me. She only said your nickname was chosen along with a girl's name, and the girl's nickname was related to a number. That's all she said."
Benjamin pondered her words, clearly trying to determine if she was telling the truth.
Daphne's acting was now on point, and she sincerely asked, "What is your nickname?"
"You really want to know?" Benjamin asked.
"Yes," Daphne replied.
"I'll tell you on our wedding day," Benjamin said.
"Benjamin," Daphne called out.
Benjamin pinched her cheek a bit harder than usual. "Want to be punished?"
Daphne promptly shut her mouth.
"Next time you do this, you'll run 3 miles with weights," Benjamin said, releasing her cheek. His deep voice carried a hint of seduction. "Got it?"
"Okay," Daphne said with a nod.
"Unwilling?" Benjamin asked, raising an eyebrow.
"No," Daphne said, shaking her head.
She didn't resist, acting like a compliant kitten.
Benjamin leaned in closer, his voice soothing. "Are you upset?"
Daphne shook her head again.
"Good girl. I'll make you something delicious," Benjamin said, ruffling her hair, and went to cook.
Daphne knew Benjamin wouldn't let her into the kitchen, so she went upstairs to her room to work on her ring design on her computer.
That night, they had dinner together.
As usual, Daphne went to bed around ten after washing up.
However, Benjamin stayed up late until about one in the morning.
He quietly entered Daphne's room, carefully approached the bed, and gently slipped a ring onto her finger.
To ensure nothing went wrong, he even warmed the ring a bit.
His behavior was just like Daphne's.
He tried one finger at a time, finally noting down the sizes for her middle and ring fingers.
Just as he was about to leave quietly, Daphne groggily opened her eyes. Seeing a figure by the bed, she became fully alert.
Instinctively, she struck out at Benjamin! A crisp collision echoed in the room.
Daphne recognized the figure in the dark by his moves and murmured, "Benjamin?"
Should he blame himself for teaching her too well, or blame Daphne for being too vigilant?
Knowing he was exposed, he calmly hid the ring before turning on a dim light, not wanting to hurt Daphne's eyes with sudden brightness.
Once the light was on, he spoke softly, "It's me."
"What are you doing in my room?" Daphne asked directly.
It was past one in the morning, and he had sneaked into her room. Had it been anyone else, she would have suspected if there were any ill intentions, but Benjamin wasn't that kind of person.
