Chapter 568 Good Jesse

The other side shot back: [I'm Jason.]

Jason? Jesse?

Elara glanced at the door, then typed: [Do you need something from me?]

Jesse was lounging on the couch, staring at the message, suddenly unsure how to reply.

If he said he needed something, what was it?

If he said nothing, why did he add her?

Jesse quickly thought it over and gave a simple reply: [Nothing much, just wanted to be friends. Is that cool?]

Elara didn't know what to feel when she saw the message.

She clicked on Jesse's profile and saw it was empty, not a single post.

While Elara was doing this, Jesse was getting a bit anxious.

He decided to knock on Elara's door to see what was taking her so long to reply.

A knock sounded at the door.

Elara snapped, "What do you want?"

"Open up, I need to talk to you," Jesse made up an excuse.

Elara didn't want to see him, but thinking about the recent Facebook friend request, she turned off her phone and put it aside, then went to open the door.

The moment he walked in, Jesse's eyes immediately landed on the phone on the bed.

Elara noticed and cut him off, "What do you want?"

"I'll help you pack," Jesse said, stepping further in.

"It's all clothes, how can you help me pack?" Elara said, trying to make it difficult for him. "What if you see my underwear and steal a piece?"

"I won't," Jesse shot back, blushing.

Elara gave him a look, clearly trying to mess with him. "Who knows."

"I really won't," Jesse said seriously, his ears turning red, "If you don't trust me, you can watch me pack."

Hearing this, Elara felt even more conflicted.

She always knew Jesse was a good guy. Even now, when she was giving him a hard time, he wasn't mad and just wanted her to trust him.

How could she not have feelings for someone like Jesse?

From their youth until now, he had always been the same.

"Elara," Jesse saw she wasn't talking to him and hesitated.

"I can pack myself; I don't need your help," Elara refused. Thinking about the recent Facebook message, she held out her hand. "Lend me your phone, I need to make a call."

Jesse asked, "Where's your phone?"

"Out of battery," Elara quickly lied.

Jesse handed over his phone without any suspicion.

Seeing him still standing there, Elara made another request, "This call is private, you can't listen."

"Okay," Jesse didn't say much, just reached out to take the phone back.

What did he mean? Not letting her make the call?

Jesse saw Elara not giving it back and explained, "I need to unlock it for you."

Elara handed the phone back, and after Jesse unlocked it, he gave it to her again and left the room.

His series of reactions made Elara even more certain that Jesse had feelings for her.

Otherwise, how could he have been so obedient?

After all, Jesse was the president of HorizonTech Group, Daphne's most capable assistant.

After calming herself down, Elara opened Jesse's Facebook. She knew snooping wasn't cool, but she had to confirm if Jason was really Jesse.

Turns out, it was him; the entire message history was just with her.

Elara should've felt happy, but all she wanted to know was why Jesse, who clearly liked her, wouldn't just admit it. What was holding him back?

She knew asking him directly wouldn't get her anywhere.

Jesse was stubborn, just like in high school. Once he made up his mind, he wouldn't budge.

Suppressing her emotions, Elara cleared the phone's background apps to avoid leaving any traces.

As for the call, she didn't make it.

Jesse would just think she deleted it if he didn't see it in the call log.

After restoring everything, she opened the door and handed the phone back to Jesse, saying distantly, "Thanks."

"Elara," Jesse started, not wanting her to marry Willie.

Elara asked, "What?"

"Do your parents know about you marrying Willie?" Jesse asked, his eyes cold, "Did they agree?"

Elara paused, unsure how to answer.

Jesse guessed from her reaction, saying, "They don't know, do they?"

"They know," Elara quickly lied.

"They don't," Jesse said confidently, reading her expression, feeling a bit relieved, "I'll talk to them when I take you back later."

What did he want to talk about?

"Marriage is a big deal; it shouldn't be decided lightly," Jesse insisted seriously, "If your parents really love you, they wouldn't let you marry him."

Meeting someone through a matchmaker could have been due to connections.

But marriage was a big deal; Elara's family wouldn't be so hasty.

"Did you not take my words to heart?" Elara asked him.

Jesse's stubbornness was almost endearing. "Which words?"

"If you won't be with me, don't meddle in my affairs," Elara emphasized.

Jesse pressed his lips together, saying nothing.

For the next half hour, neither of them spoke. Elara packed her things, and Jesse waited outside.

After four in the afternoon, Elara had finished packing everything.

Jesse helped her load everything into the car, then drove her.

Elara didn't talk much, just gave him directions along the way. When they arrived, Jesse saw Willie.

Jesse frowned and asked her, "Isn't this your home?"

"It is," Elara was really afraid Jesse would talk to her parents, so she spoke directly, "After I marry Willie tomorrow, I'll live here."

Jesse wanted to persuade her, but Elara had already gotten out of the car.

Not until the last suitcase was taken down did Elara finally speak, "Thanks."

"Elara," Jesse called her.

Elara didn't respond, just walked inside.

As for her suitcase, Willie had the servants take it in.

Watching Elara walk away without looking back, Jesse's eyes showed some other emotions. Then he had someone find out where Elara's parents lived and drove there.

Jesse admitted that what he was doing was meddling and knew it would make Elara frustrated, but he couldn't watch her be with someone unworthy; she deserved to be happy.

An hour later, Jesse arrived at Harry and Zara's place.
