Chapter 660 The So-Called Game
Caspian's eyes flickered slightly.
He would never be better. Old wounds hadn't healed, and new ones would appear. Given that, it was better to always be in pain.
"If you don't say anything, I'll take it as you accepting it." Diana reached out and placed the ointment in his hand.
Caspian instinctively refused and pushed the ointment back to her.
With that motion, Diana fell to the ground.
Diana frowned at her elbow on the ground, her round eyes quickly filling with tears, and she started crying.
Caspian had never seen such a scene and felt a pang of guilt.
"Are you okay?" He stood there, at a loss.
Diana's tears kept flowing, and her tearful voice was heart-wrenching, "It hurts."
Caspian helped her up, his expression unchanged, but something shifted inside him. "Sorry."
Diana wiped her tears and stood up. "I don't want your apology."
Caspian looked up at her.
"Play a game with me. If you can last until the end, I'll forgive you," Diana stated her purpose, with the pure heart of a child. "If you can't, then take this ointment and apply it to your wounds when you get back."
"Okay," Caspian agreed.
"The game is, if you can stay still for fifteen minutes, you win." Diana explained the rules.
Caspian agreed again, "Okay."
He thought it was simple.
She had cried so hard just now, so he wanted to make her happy.
Diana announced the start of the game.
As soon as she said that, Caspian sat there, maintaining his position without moving.
This game was no challenge for him. He could do it for even an hour.
Diana first tried to tickle him, and when he didn't react, she made funny faces to make him laugh. Throughout the process, Caspian remained unmoved.
"Louis!" Diana suddenly called out to someone not far away. "Come over here."
Louis emerged from the shadows.
Caspian didn't think much of it, assuming they were teaming up to make him lose the game.
But Diana's next words left Caspian stunned.
"You help him with his body, I'll do his arms." Diana handed the ointment to Louis, revealing her initial plan. "Apply it carefully, or it'll hurt him."
"Tell that to yourself," Louis replied.
Diana smiled, dipped her fingers in the ointment, and gently applied it to the wounds on Caspian's arm, careful not to hurt him.
Caspian's brow furrowed slightly, clearly not expecting them to do this.
"You can't talk or move," Diana reminded him of the rules as she gently applied the ointment. "If you move, you'll lose the game, and you'll have to follow the rules and apply the ointment yourself when you get back."
For the next ten minutes or so, Louis and Diana carefully applied the ointment to him.
Seeing the scars on Caspian's back, even the mature Louis felt a wave of emotion.
Such severe injuries, even an adult would struggle to endure.
How did Caspian manage?
"Done." Louis finished the last spot, handed the ointment back to Diana, and said, "Time's up."
Diana's eyes curved into a smile, looking adorable.
Caspian felt his body seemed less painful than before. He looked at Diana and announced the game's result, "I won."
"Huh?" Diana was a bit taken aback.
"I won the game," Caspian said without any emotional fluctuation.
"No, you lost." Diana showed him the countdown on her watch. "Look, there's still thirty seconds left to fifteen minutes."
It was Caspian's first time to experience such things.
He looked back and forth between Louis and Diana, finally concluding, "You two teamed up to trick me?"
"Nope." Diana was very cute. "Only the two of us are playing this game. Louis is an outsider, so his words don't count."
Caspian wanted to argue but knew he had indeed lost the game.
"This is the agreement for losing." Diana handed him the ointment, genuinely hoping he would get better. "Apply it once a day, and you'll be healed in three days."
Caspian stared at the ointment, feeling a mix of emotions.
In the past, even when deceived, mocked, or bullied, he could remain expressionless and emotionless.
But today, he couldn't.
"I'm sorry about my fake tears." Diana, a sensible and well-behaved child, placed the ointment in his hand. "I apologize. Will you forgive me?"
"You go back first, I need to talk to him," Louis spoke up.
Diana was a bit unhappy. "No."
Louis took on the demeanor of an older brother.
Diana drooped her head and emphasized one point before leaving: "Be nice to him."
"Got it," Louis agreed.
Diana didn't want to leave but eventually did.
However, she wasn't entirely at ease and stayed hidden with Charles's bodyguard, waiting for the outcome.
"I know what you're thinking and what you're worried about," Louis, like a little adult, talked to him. "If I were you, I would accept Diana's kindness to reduce some of the pain."
Caspian looked at him, his face as calm as ever.
After a while.
Caspian gave Louis a flat response, "What do you know?"
"You don't call the police because you know it won't change anything," Louis explained, "Given your injuries, your dad would at most be educated or detained for a few days. When he gets out, you'll suffer even more."
Caspian pressed his lips together, showing a slight emotional fluctuation. He hadn't expected anyone to guess his thoughts.
"Plus, with only your dad taking care of you and no mom, the police would have more factors to consider," Louis continued.
Hearing this, Caspian's eyes changed.
"Don't look at me like that," Louis said bluntly. "I looked up your information this afternoon and found out your mom left you and your dad when you were born."
"Since you know, you should understand that I have no choice." Caspian opened up to someone for the first time.
"You have, you just don't want to choose." Louis offered a solution. "Medicine can reduce pain, and seeking help can lessen his harm to you. One report might not do much, but if you report every time he hits you, eventually, it will draw attention."
