Chapter 437 No Need to Be So Euphemistic

"Then why did you stop?" Daphne asked, her heart doing somersaults.

Benjamin pulled her closer and asked, "What do you think?"

Daphne stayed quiet. If she knew, she wouldn't have asked.

"No protection," Benjamin said in a husky voice, his dark eyes burning with desire. "Can't risk it."

Daphne kept silent. She'd always worried about this, afraid he'd mind.

"I'm in my safe period," she blurted out, emotion taking over logic.

Normally, she'd never say something like that. Even in the safe period, it was not foolproof.

But right now, she had one thought: 'Keep going!'

"No," Benjamin said firmly. "Even in the safe period, there's a chance. Until we're married, we can't be reckless."

"In a few days, I'll take you to meet my dad," Daphne said, her usual coolness gone. "We'll get married within three months."

In other words, even if she got pregnant, it wouldn't matter.

Benjamin raised an eyebrow, his voice even huskier. "You really wanna test me that bad?"

"Yes," Daphne nodded.

"Be good and hold on," Benjamin said, his self-control ironclad, especially with Daphne. "We'll take it slow once we have protection tomorrow."

Daphne bit her lip, feeling a bit down. They'd come this far, and Benjamin was still so calm?

"Do you think I'm not attractive?" Daphne blurted out, feeling all sorts of insecurities. "Is that why you're so indifferent?"

Benjamin laughed, exasperated. Indifferent? Did Daphne have any idea how hard he was holding back?

"Can't you tell if I'm indifferent?" Benjamin said.

As he spoke, he pulled her closer, making everything clear to Daphne.

Her eyes sparkled with emotion as she said, "Then why are you holding back? We'll get married, and you'll take responsibility."

"Shower," Benjamin decided immediately, lifting the blanket and carrying her to the bathroom.

If he let Daphne keep talking, his hard-won rationality would crumble.

He'd take responsibility and marry her, but he didn't want her to face societal judgment.

This society was kinda unfair to women. He hoped Daphne wouldn't have to deal with that. Holding back once wasn't a big deal.

"Benjamin!" Daphne said, annoyed.

Benjamin ignored her, helping her shower and dress. The whole process was both torturous and delightful.

After her brief outburst, Daphne's ears turned red, and she felt completely awkward.

Half an hour later, they were sitting on the couch downstairs.

As emotions faded, reason returned.

Daphne's eyes were on the TV, but her mind was elsewhere.

Thinking about how she had invited Benjamin after being rejected made her feel utterly embarrassed. How could she have been so forward?

"Why are you sitting so far away?" Benjamin asked, noting the distance between them. "Just 'cause I didn't let you test me? Are you that mad?"

"Come here," Benjamin said in that smooth, easygoing voice of his.

Daphne clutched the remote, her tone cool as she declined, "No need. I'm good right here, facing the TV."

Benjamin watched her, trying to figure out if she was really mad or just embarrassed.

"Really? Not coming?" he asked.

"No," Daphne refused again.

As soon as she finished speaking, Benjamin got up and walked over to her.

If she wouldn't come to him, he'd go to her.

He plopped down next to her, making the couch dip. Daphne tensed up, her hand fidgeting with the remote.

"Want to hit the supermarket?" Benjamin asked, sensing her tension. "Grab some snacks and essentials."

"Didn't Gracie and the others already stock up?" Daphne asked.

"Let's see if there's anything you like," Benjamin said.

"You wanna go?" Daphne asked.

"Yeah," Benjamin replied firmly.

"Okay," Daphne murmured, her mind wandering.

Benjamin's hand on her waist gave a light pinch.

Daphne shivered, turning to him with a hint of emotion. "What are you doing?" she asked.

"Holding you," Benjamin said softly.

"In a few days, we need to change your diet," Benjamin said seriously, pinching her waist again. "You're too thin."

He was curious how Daphne could pack such a punch in a fight.

He hadn't cared before, but now he did. He needed to make sure she gained some weight.

"No need to be so subtle," Daphne said, thinking Benjamin was getting better at sarcasm. "If you think I'm small, just say it."

Benjamin raised an eyebrow. "Small?"

"Aren't I?" Daphne shot back.

Benjamin's gaze lingered on her face.

Daphne was twenty-five, and he was thirty. Compared to him, she was indeed much smaller.

"Don't you mind I am old?" Benjamin said, recalling Daphne mentioning his age.

Daphne paused, quickly realizing they were on different wavelengths and that she had misunderstood him.

"I don't," she changed the subject, not wanting to continue this pointless conversation. "It's getting late. Let's hit the supermarket before it closes."

Benjamin felt something was off but couldn't pinpoint it.

It wasn't until they were in the car, ready to go to the supermarket, that Benjamin suddenly understood what Daphne meant by "small."

As Daphne fastened her seatbelt, Benjamin's lips curved into a smile and he replied in a lazy voice, "I don't mind."

Daphne had already filtered out the previous topic. "What?" she asked, puzzled.

"Nothing," Benjamin said, starting the car, not wanting to make her upset.

The car headed to the supermarket, and Daphne didn't ask further.

It was their first time going to the supermarket together.

At around seven in the evening, the supermarket was busier than at noon.

Benjamin enjoyed this vibe. He bought the same brand of body wash and shampoo as Daphne and some of her favorite aromatherapy items.

When it came to buying toothbrushes, Daphne stopped him. "Don't we have toothbrushes at home?"
