Chapter 657 My Heart is Stirring
Louis grunted in acknowledgment as a silent promise between father and son.
Benjamin ruffled his hair.
Louis wanted to resist, but he paused just as he was about to raise his hand.
He thought, 'Fine. Charles has openly come to pick us up , just let Dad do it for a while, or he may feel uncomfortable.'
If Benjamin knew what Louis was thinking, he would probably put on a show and make Louis let him ruffle his hair every day.
Daphne and Benjamin went to the airport with Louis, Diana, and Charles. After watching them go through the ticket check, she and Benjamin went home.
In the following days, Louis and Diana stayed at Charles's place.
On the day they arrived, Charles took Louis and Diana to meet Marcus and the others. Everyone took a liking to the well-behaved and good-looking children.
Considering he wanted to take Louis and Diana out to have fun, Charles only stayed at The Lancelot Mansion for one day.
The next afternoon.
Watching Diana having a great time, Charles fiddled with his phone, contemplating whether to hire a maid.
Last night at The Lancelot Mansion, Laura had helped Diana with her bath. Today, it was just him, and it didn't seem appropriate for him, a grown man, to help Diana bathe, especially since he wasn't her biological father. Calling Laura over didn't seem right either.
As he was thinking about this, a graceful figure suddenly appeared.
Peyton arrived with a bunch of snacks and toys for the kids. After giving them to Diana, she just stood there.
Charles frowned. "Why are you here?"
"Don't get it wrong, I'm not here because of you." Peyton, who had been thoroughly rejected, had reverted to treating Charles as just a friend. "I'm here for the kids."
Charles looked puzzled, clearly not believing her.
Peyton wasn't familiar with Daphne, so how could she be here for her kids?
"I'll be staying here for the next few days. I've already informed Laura," Peyton said bluntly.
Charles immediately responded, "I don't agree."
"It doesn't matter. Diana is a girl, and it's more appropriate for me to take care of her," Peyton said straightforwardly, knowing that Charles was troubled by this issue.
Charles paused, clearly not expecting her to come for this reason.
Peyton asked him, "Do you still want to kick me out now?"
"I can hire a maid," Charles said directly, still not wanting to get too entangled with her. "You..."
"Name your price," Peyton said without any hesitation, her tone natural. "I happen to be short on money lately."
Charles still wanted to refuse.
But Diana came over and pulled Peyton away to play.
In just one or two hours, the two had already gotten along well.
"I'll give you the contract later," Charles agreed.
Peyton's eyes paused for a moment but quickly returned to normal as she continued playing with Diana.
In the following days, Charles and Peyton took the kids out to play during the day, ate delicious food, and put them to bed early at night.
After a few days, Diana had become very familiar with Peyton.
That evening.
Diana had just finished her bath and was dressed when she looked up with her big, watery eyes and asked Peyton a question, "Peyton, do you like Charles?"
Peyton paused while helping Diana with her clothes, then smiled slightly.
Peyton tapped Diana's nose with a doting tone, "You're just a kid, what do you know about liking someone?"
"I know," Diana said seriously, her pretty eyes sincere and a bit naive. "Dad and Mom are together because they like each other. You like Charles, don't you?"
"I used to, but not anymore." Peyton didn't reveal her true feelings.
Diana tilted her head and asked, "Why don't you like him anymore?"
"Because he doesn't like me and rejected me," Peyton said, not sure if Diana would understand, but she said it anyway.
"It's okay," Diana said, starting to praise her. "You're so pretty. If Charles doesn't want to be with you, it's his loss."
Peyton was amused by her. How could a little kid know so much?
"I have a few uncles who are still single. Do you want me to introduce you to them?" Diana's voice was soft.
Peyton didn't expect a child to say such things and found it both funny and exasperating.
Diana continued, "Don't worry, they're very good-looking and nice!"
"I'm not planning to get married right now," Peyton ruffled her hair, thinking she would love to have such a well-behaved daughter. "When I am, I'll ask you for their contact information, okay?"
"Okay," Diana agreed quickly.
They chatted for a while longer before Peyton went to her room to sleep.
As soon as Peyton left, Diana quietly slipped out of her room and knocked on Charles's door.
Charles thought it was Peyton and went to open the door, but saw no one.
Just as he was about to close it, he noticed the small figure of Diana.
"Diana?" Charles's voice was in surprise.
"Charles, can I come in and talk to you?" Diana asked, looking up with her cute face. "I want to tell you something."
Charles let her in and took her to sit on the couch then asked, "What's up?"
"What do you think of Peyton?" Diana asked directly.
Charles was momentarily puzzled. "What do you mean?"
"As an adult, shouldn't you understand this better than me?" Diana said seriously.
Charles understood her meaning. "You want to know if I want to be with her?"
"Yes!" Diana nodded happily.
Without much thought, Charles answered honestly, "No."
"Why not?" Diana tilted her head, her round eyes full of confusion. "Peyton is pretty and very gentle. You should like her."
"The way adults like someone is different from how you kids do," Charles explained. "You can have good feelings towards many nice people, but there's only one person who truly makes your heart flutter."
"Heart flutter?" Diana was even more confused.
Charles nodded.
Diana placed her small hand on her chest for a moment and then said sincerely and softly, "My heart is fluttering."
Charles paused, clearly unsure how to explain it to her. If he explained it the way he thought, Diana might not understand. If he explained it in a way Diana could understand, he might not express it clearly.
"Mom said if this stops beating, it means you've gone far away and won't come back," Diana said sincerely, giving an example. "Just like my grandma."
