Chapter129 Evidence in Hand

Just before the work shift ended, Daphne went to the break room to change into casual clothes and sneakers.

The reason being, of course, to comfortably handle a potential fight later.

Right after she finished changing, her phone lit up, it was a call from Lydia.

“Sis!”

“Yes?”

“Will you come back for dinner tonight?” Lydia's voice was bubbly and cute, almost pleading, “I didn't have class today and came back early to learn a couple of dishes from Auntie.”

Daphne's grip tightened on her phone.

She didn't want to go back, but she didn't want to dampen Lydia's enthusiasm either.

“Sis~” Lydia coaxed endearingly.

“When?”

“Seven-thirty!” Lydia giggled happily, thrilled with the response.

Daphne relented, “Okay.”

When the call ended, Lydia informed her father, who had just come home, "Sis said she'd be home for dinner, but she's not fond of Sophia and her gang. If you've got stuff going on today, don't call after Sis gets back."

"All right, all right," Murphy hastily agreed.

To prevent any mishaps, he even softened the message when he mentioned it to Sophia, being careful not to upset her.

Daphne glanced at the time; it was already half past five. Getting back from here would take an hour, meaning they needed to deal with those individuals quickly.

In her contemplation, Daphne made her decision.

She gave Jesse a heads-up, and the two of them hopped in the car and drove off, not towards home, but to the suburbs.

To create an opportunity to catch the trackers off guard, Daphne parked the car in a secluded area, pretending to inspect it as if it had encountered trouble.

In autumn, the sky got dim around six o'clock.

The followers, spotting this scene, were overjoyed.

"This is the perfect spot for us to make our move—no surveillance and no people around."

"Get Mr. Tony, and let's finish the job right here."

"Let's go!"

As they finished speaking, more than ten people got out of their cars, each wielding a metal bat, and headed toward Daphne and Jesse's vehicle.

Seeing the approaching crowd, Jesse remarked to Daphne, "Boss, they're coming."

"Eight each," Daphne calculated quickly, not including Tony, making a total of sixteen.

"Got it," Jesse replied.

They shut the car hood, pretending everything was fine and they were about to leave.

Before their hands even left the hood, Tony and his guys rushed over and surrounded them, serious looks on their faces and tapping the bats in their hands.

"We meet again, Daphne." Tony approached, feeling a bit of satisfaction at last.

Daphne and Jesse exchanged a look, and she asked him, "What do you want?"

"Hand over the video you recorded today." Tony planned to deal with this matter first, then seek revenge. "Otherwise, my bodyguards aren't here just for show."

"Threatening me?" Daphne remained unphased, as always.

Tony nodded. "That's right."

There were no cameras there, and neither of them had left phones in plain sight. He felt confident that his threat carried weight.

Daphne glanced at the looming men and stated, "I won't give it to you."

"Then it looks like I'll just have to settle both new and old scores," Tony signaled to his men with a look.

Two of them stepped forward, aiming to strike Jesse and Daphne.

A hit from one of those bats would result in days of pain!

Unfortunately for them, both Daphne and Jesse had extraordinary fighting skills.
The moment the bat descended, Daphne and Jesse deftly caught it, taking control of the situation before anyone else could register what had just happened.

"What are you waiting for?" Tony barked, the flames of anger rising in his chest.

His crew, spurred by his command, didn't waste another second and swung their pipes down with force.

At this point, it was a clear-cut self-defense, and Daphne didn't hold back, showing no mercy to the assailants.

"Thud!"

"Ah!"

A series of dull, heavy strikes filled the air, accompanied by the screams of their adversaries.

Tony's eyes widened in shock.

He had never anticipated that Daphne and Jesse would be so skilled at defending themselves. In less than two minutes, his gang of sixteen lay defeated, and the duo didn’t sustain a single injury!

"You..." Tony was at a loss for words.

They were in a lonely place with no one around; he genuinely feared Daphne might kill him and dump his body in a ditch.

Alone, he was no match for the two of them.

"You remember when you had Joe break Lydia's arm, and she suffered a head injury? Well, it's time to settle that score," Daphne said, weighing the pipe in her hand with a calm demeanor that sent chills down Tony's spine.

Tony took a couple of steps back, stammering, "She... she's already recovered, hasn't she?"

"I’m warning you if you hit or kill me, it's considered assault, and I could take legal action against you!"

"Don't... don’t come any closer."

He was panicking.

Had he known they were this formidable, he would have instructed those useless thugs to bring knives. Surely, they couldn't catch those with their bare hands.

"Jesse, get in the car," Daphne said, with no intention of engaging further with Tony.

Jesse always took Daphne's word to heart.

They stepped over the fallen bodyguards, got into their vehicle, and turned around, heading back the way they came.

The bodyguards and Tony were left dumbfounded.

Especially Tony, who couldn't grasp why Daphne had suddenly spared him. Given how she had previously submerged him into a bathtub full of water at the hotel, he expected her to be ruthless. Why did she let him off so easily?

The truth was Daphne wouldn't let anyone who bullied Lydia off the hook.

Once in the car, she reviewed the footage from the dashcam, noting both the video and audio were crystal clear.

With this evidence, she could press charges against Tony and have him locked up. Daphne delegated the matter to a professional.

After dealing with the situation, Daphne headed home, things had gone more smoothly than expected.

At 7:20 PM, Daphne arrived home.

Lydia was ecstatic, throwing her arms around her the moment she saw her. "Sis!"

Daphne, smiling softly, ruffled Lydia's hair, just like when they were kids.

"You have no idea how much I've missed you," Lydia cooed as she embraced her, nuzzling her affectionately.

Daphne responded with her usual tenderness, "I've missed you, too."

"Come on, dinner's ready." Lydia, chatting incessantly, tugged her towards the dining room. "I cooked two of the dishes myself, and Dad cooked four!"

Daphne paused for a moment.

Peering inside, she saw her stepdad bustling about in the kitchen.

Her heart was filled with a variety of intricate emotions.
