Chapter 508 The Well-behaved Diana
"Nope." Diana grinned. "When Lon's too shy to grab some grub, I got his back."
Used to be Louis always snagging her food, and now she was doing it for Lon? Wild.
Diana showed him she could handle it, no sweat.
"Lon, try this; it's bomb." Diana nudged the dish his way, all smiles. "And this one too, it's fire!"
"I can't eat all that," Lon mumbled, looking a bit sheepish.
Lon and his bro had been doing their own thing since they were kids. Except when they were tiny tots, they always handled their biz.
Now, having a girl be all sweet to him? Totally new territory.
"Chill, no rush," Diana said, sounding like a mini grown-up. "If you can't finish, no biggie; just leave it."
Lon had no choice but to munch quietly. Diana's eyes were glued to him the whole meal.
So, when everyone was almost done, she had barely touched her plate.
But she wasn't even hungry.
"Lon, wanna crash for a bit?" Diana was all about that care. "My room's super cute; you can nap there."
Louis usually stayed out of stuff, but not this time.
"Sleep in my room," Louis jumped in, his tone steady. "I'll show you the way."
"Louis!" Diana protested.
"If you want him to see your messy room, go ahead." Louis hit her where it hurt. "Your desk's a disaster with hair ties and flowers Gavin used for your hair."
Diana froze, remembering Gavin hadn't cleaned up that morning.
She had to let Louis take Lon away.
Gavin watched from the doorway as Lon and Louis headed to their room. After shutting the door, he led Diana back to hers.
"Gavin, make sure to call me when Lon wakes up," Diana said seriously as they walked.
Gavin started digging, "You really like Lon, huh?"
Diana nodded.
"What about Louis?"
"What?"
"Don't you like Louis anymore?" Gavin pressed.
"Of course I do." Diana's thoughts were simple. "Louis is my fave, right after Mom and Dad!"
"Then why were you hyping up Lon today, saying he's better than Louis?" Gavin noticed Louis seemed a bit down and decided to tackle it from Diana's side. "Aren't you worried about hurting Louis' feelings?"
Diana tilted her head. "Why would Louis be upset?"
"If Louis praised another girl for being better and more well-behaved than you, wouldn't you feel bad?" Gavin tried to put her in Louis' shoes.
Diana thought for a sec, then shook her head. "Nope!"
"Why not?" Gavin was curious.
"Louis is pretty chill. If he wants to hang with other kids, I'd be stoked!" Diana's innocent tone was super cute. "Besides, even if Louis plays with other kids, I'm still his sis."
Gavin paused, then asked, "Aren't you scared that if Louis plays with others, he won't pay attention to you or hang with you?"
"Louis won't ditch me, and I won't ditch him," Diana said, all innocent-like. "Lon's leaving today, so I gotta hang with him. Louis is always around, so I can chill with him later."
With that, Diana went off to take her nap like a good kid.
Gavin was kinda shocked that a little kid could get all that.
Forty minutes later, everyone was up and at 'em.
Diana, as usual, dragged Lon off to play.
Louis had a book in his hands, but his mind was totally on Diana.
Gavin strolled over and told Louis what Diana had said before her nap. After he finished, he added, "She knows you're her bro, so she's cool playing with others."
'Cause he was her brother, she wasn't scared he'd bail or vanish.
"Let her take Lon home tonight," Louis said after a beat.
Gavin raised an eyebrow, a bit taken aback. "Aren't you worried she won't wanna come back?"
"Nope," Louis said, sounding sure of himself.
That afternoon, Diana spent all her time with Lon.
Sometimes they played with toys, and sometimes she pretended she didn't know how to do something and asked him for help.
Seeing this, Gavin was super puzzled.
Asking someone she liked for help with stuff she already knew? That was middle school level. It didn't mess with learning and got she closer to her crush. How did Diana know this?
"In the future, you should keep an eye on Diana when she's in school," Gavin said seriously to Louis. "With her personality, she's too likely to chase after someone she likes."
And she was good at it!
Louis looked up and said, "No need."
"Why?" Gavin was really curious.
"She only likes good-looking people, and there aren't many who look better than Dad," Louis, though he hated to admit it, knew Benjamin was a looker. "Besides, her standards will probably be higher when she grows up."
Louis should be more worried about whether Diana could find someone to marry in the future.
Gavin was stunned, then thought Louis made a lot of sense.
But how did a four-year-old get all this?
As they chatted, time flew by, and before they knew it, it was already 4:30 PM.
Diana came in with Lon, looking all bummed out. "Can't we play a little longer?"
"No, I promised my mom I'd be home by six." Lon was a sensible kid.
"Okay." Diana was clearly down in the dumps.
Lon came over to say goodbye to Gavin and Louis.
Gavin had a car ready to go.
Watching Lon get into the car, Diana looked super bummed to see him leave.
Louis came up to her and said in his usual mature-but-kid-like tone, "Aren't you gonna take Lon home?"
Diana's eyes lit up. "Can I?"
"Get in the car."
"Okay!"
Diana hopped into the car, her earlier sadness gone.
Gavin saw they were all settled and got in the car too. Before they took off, he glanced back at Louis.
He chuckled to himself, 'What a stubborn little dude.'
