Chapter 735 Rivals in Love
Looking at Daphne like this, Charles's heart that had been calm for about twenty years began to stir again.
He still liked her stubbornness.
"Daphne," Charles suddenly called her.
Daphne looked up. "What?"
"If I hadn't treated you that way back then, and had firmly chosen you over Kayla, would you still have left me?" Charles asked her in a rather relaxed and natural tone.
"Based on your question," Daphne retorted, "if Kayla had really left you because of a terminal illness, would you have chosen her or me?"
After she asked this, there was a moment of silence.
Charles' eyes gradually deepened, and after a while, he answered, "I don't know."
If it were him now, he would definitely say he would choose Daphne.
But back then, he wasn't as mature as he is now. With his mindset at that time, he would have felt guilty towards Kayla and wanted to make amends. He, however, couldn't figure out how to make amends without facing that situation directly.
"That's why we're not suitable for each other," Daphne also answered that question.
"If Benjamin also had a deeply unforgettable ex, what choice would he make in such a situation?" Charles asked this question very seriously.
As soon as he finished speaking, Benjamin walked over.
He sat down naturally next to Daphne, took her hand, and answered the question, "I would choose her without hesitation."
After he said this, no one spoke much.
It wasn't until Diana and the others came back that the atmosphere gradually became lively again.
At twelve-thirty, they all had lunch together.
After the matter was settled, Charles and Caspian didn't stay long. They chatted for a while in the afternoon before leaving.
Not long after they left, Diana noticed that the atmosphere at lunch today was a bit off. She tentatively asked Daphne and Benjamin, "What did you talk about with Charles while we were away?"
"Nothing." Benjamin didn't intend to let her know. To Diana, Charles was a very good elder. He treated her well and took care of her meticulously. And that was all Diana should know about Charles.
"Liar," Diana said directly. "The atmosphere was just off."
"Instead of worrying about this, why not think about what to talk to Lon about when you see him later." Benjamin was very good at changing the subject.
Diana was a bit surprised. "Lon is coming?"
"He sent you a message, didn't you see it?" Benjamin replied.
Diana paused, instantly remembering that she had given her phone to Caspian during lunch.
No wonder Caspian had been looking at her strangely for a while.
It turned out he knew Lon was coming to see her tonight.
She didn't delay and immediately made a call to ask when Lon and the others would arrive, then she grabbed her car keys and went out.
Meanwhile, on Caspian's side.
He had just returned to the hotel when he received an invitation from Lon.
Thinking about his situation with Diana, Caspian didn't hesitate and accepted the invitation.
They met at a club, and besides them, there were also Eddy, Chloe, and others.
With just one look, Caspian knew what kind of situation this was.
"Diana is the apple of all our eyes." Lon sat across from him, his eyes deep and serious. "Since she chose you, we want to see if you're really worth her affection."
Caspian didn't say a word, indicating they could go ahead.
At this moment, he also understood one thing. Usually, he felt inferior, but at this moment, he had all the courage to fight for Diana.
"You're the president of the Lancelot Group, socializing is inevitable," Lon looked at the drinks on the table and said word by word, "As long as you can drink us all under the table, I'll acknowledge you."
To Lon, he hoped Diana would find someone reliable.
In this circle, there was no shortage of people who would go crazy after drinking. He didn't know if Caspian was one of them. So he had to test him.
"Okay," Caspian agreed.
Chloe nudged Eddy's elbow, whispering, "What should we do?"
Eddy replied in a low voice, "What do you mean?"
Chloe glared at him. "You know Caspian can't hold his liquor!"
Last time in Ivrea City, Caspian got drunk after not drinking much, and later when Eddy was drunk, Caspian was already out. If he drinks now, won't there be trouble?
Eddy looked at Lon, then at Caspian, and whispered, "Rivals in love are always jealous, let them drink."
"Did you forget Lon said we would drink with Caspian?" Chloe gritted her teeth and lowered her voice. "We have to drink, too.."
"If I win, I have one condition," Caspian suddenly spoke.
Lon's demeanor was gentle. "Go ahead."
"Every year on Diana's birthday, you come back." Caspian looked into his eyes. "She cares about you."
Everyone was very puzzled. They never expected things to progress like this.
"Okay," Lon agreed.
"Are you stupid?" Eddy couldn't help but say to Caspian, feeling complicated for the first time. "Even if you didn't mention it, Lon would do it."
Since they met, he had never seen Lon miss any of Diana's birthdays or any holidays.
Lon's probing gaze looked over. 'Whose side are you on?'
Eddy: 'Of course, I'm on your side!'
Lon: 'Then why did you say that?'
Eddy scratched his head, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"If you win, and win beautifully, I'll be at ease handing Diana over to you and will withdraw from this relationship," Lon added.
"No need to withdraw." Caspian was really good at torturing people's minds, his face calm and indifferent, but his words were unfathomable, "It's good to continue liking her, the more people who care about her, the more warmth she feels."
"Are you out of your mind?" Eddy finally couldn't hold back, pointing to his head.
Caspian didn't respond.
Only Lon understood what he meant. Caspian was just saying that Lon would never get what he wanted. Lon couldn't help but doubt that if Caspian could really give Diana a life time of happiness.
"How do we drink?" Caspian's gaze swept over them, his whole body exuding a clear and cold aura. "All together, or one by one in a relay?"
"I'll drink with you first," Lon said.
Caspian responded, "Okay."
As soon as he finished speaking, they began to drink.
Watching them down one glass after another, everyone's hearts couldn't help but tighten.
