Chapter 237 When Are You Coming Back to Inherit the Property

“Yes," Benjamin's calm eyes and tone made it difficult to discern if he was joking or serious. "I will turn thirty next month. When discussing my occupation on a blind date, I can't merely mention that I am jobless.”

A simple sentence made Daphne worry for him.

She blurted out, “That's true, you're not exactly young anymore.”

Benjamin laughed in exasperation.

Did she think he was old?

“I may not be as young and energetic as you,” Benjamin said flatly.

Daphne explained, “That's not what I meant.”

“Don't you think I'm old?”

Benjamin chuckled softly.

Daphne wasn't good at giving compliments, but she forced herself to say, “A man at thirty is still very charming. You're not old.”

“How does it feel to lie?”

“Benjamin…”

Why did he always have to spoilthe moment?

Benjamin had just made his final move. “Daphne, you lost.”

Daphne shook off her reverie and returned to her senses.

Looking at the disarray she had caused on the chessboard,, she reflected once again on Benjamin's mischief.

He had a way of distracting her and playing mind games. The amount of effort he put into a simple game of chess was truly remarkable.

“The game is over.” Benjamin stood up, his legs really long. “Have you all been slacking off these past two years?”

Daphne was helpless.

She knew she had been influenced by Benjamin again!

“Let's eat,” Benjamin said.

This time, Daphne was obedient.

She understood the importance of maintaining a strong mindset, regardless of her circumstances.

It was her mental fortitude that had helped her endure the pain caused by Charles.

While she appreciated Benjamin's good intentions, his presence felt overpowering to her.

During dinner, Luke chatted with Benjamin.

Observing Daphne's unusual reaction, Luke inquired with concern,, “Daphne, are you okay?”

“I'm fine.”

“Did Benjamin bully you?”

Daphne glanced at him and shook her head instinctively. “No.”

“He's not your captian anymore. You don't have to fear him.” Luke seemed to know everything. “If he bothersyou, just tell me. I'll handle him.”

“Okay,” Daphne said, offering a faint smile.

Benjamin remained quiet, allowing them to voice their grievances about him.

After lunch, Luke kept them around to chat.

If Daphne hadn't spotted Benjamin, she would have found a reason to depart early. After all, she needed to prepare her belongings in advance to swiftly leave after meeting Lydia and her boyfriend the next day.

But now that she had seen Benjamin, she wasn't in a hurry.

The whole afternoon, Daphne and Benjamin played chess with Luke.

Initially, Benjamin played with Luke, but as Luke grew weary, he opted to watch, allowing Daphne to play with Benjamin.

Before they realized it, it was already past five in the evening.

Daphne checked the time, contemplating her departure but unsure how to broach the subject.

Benjamin, noticing her restlessness while playing chess with Luke, interjected, "Mr. Smith, Daphne and I have some matters to attend to. Once this game is finished, we will leave. We'll visit you again next time."

Luke scoffed. "You involve Daphne in your errands."

Benjamin just smiled silently and continued playing chess.

Daphne felt a bit relieved.

It was always challenging for her to refuse the requests of her elders. However, she feared that if they stayed beyond dinner, Luke might insist they spend the night.

She was particularly concerned that Benjamin might raise the topic again, as he had only mentioned it casually before without further discussion.

She was scared.

After a while, they finished the game.

Benjamin took the initiative to put away the chess pieces and board, politely and gracefully bidding farewell to Luke.

Daphne also said her goodbyes.

Although Luke was reluctant, he knew they had things to do and didn't want to delay them.

“Benjamin, how are you getting back?” Luke asked.

“I'll walk out and catch a cab.”

Luke was extremely puzzled.

He instinctively glanced at the SUV nearby, puzzled by how calmly Benjamin could lie. Without revealing him, he silently observed Benjamin's actions.

He wanted to see what Benjamin's intention was.

“It's quite far to walk out, and you can't catch a cab nearby.” Daphne held the car keys and asked, “Where are you going? If it's not far, I can drive you.”

Benjamin was always good to them.

She couldn't just watch him walk so far.

Benjamin's eyes were still calm, his tone gentle. “Would it be too much trouble?”

“Not at all,” Daphne said. “Let's go.”

“Okay.”

Benjamin quietly followed her.

Luke's lips twitched.

Benjamin was really cunning!

Daphne nonchalantly led Benjamin to her car and drove away from the military compound without any inkling of suspicion.

What prevented her from suspecting anything was the sight of only three cars in the Smith family's garage when they arrived, and Benjamin had casually walked inside.

She never thought he had arrived earlier.

Luke didn't let it slip either.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Benjamin messaged Luke, informing him that someone would come to collect the car the following day.

“Daphne.” He turned to her after sending the message.

Daphne focused on driving. “What's up?”

“What do you think about the job I mentioned earlier?” Benjamin played with his phone, his demeanor calm and casual, with a hint of laziness when he turned his head.

Daphne paused. “You weren't joking, were you?”

“No.”

“You really want a job?”

“Yes.”

“What kind of job?”

“As long as it's in the same office as you or related to your work.” Benjamin's voice was low as he looked at his phone, which had a new message.

He opened it; it was from his dad.

Henry: [Did you really retire?]

Benjamin quickly replied: [Yes.]

Daphne didn't understand his job request. “Why?”

“I've never been in society.” Benjamin was serious, his words flawless. “I've always been training, carrying out missions, or training others.”

Daphne thought about it.

It seemed true.

Military life was different from the outside world.

While Benjamin possessed a range of abilities, assimilating into society wasn't challenging, but the beginning was always tough. The initial phase demanded adaptation.

“After the holiday, come to the company. I'll give you a contract.” Daphne seemed too naive in front of him.

Benjamin's lips curved slightly, turning to her. “Really?”

“Yes.”

“Okay.”

Benjamin agreed.

At that moment.

His phone lit up once more, displaying another message from his father.

Henry: [When are you coming back to inherit the property? Your mom and I want to travel.]
