Chapter 696 Truly Impressive

"He won't say, and I have no idea what it's about," Diana said, resting her chin in her hand, feeling the frustration of knowing there's a misunderstanding but being unable to resolve it for the first time.

"Just go about your life as usual, don't worry about the rest." Charles knew what to do. "In a few days, there's a business banquet. I'll have someone spread the word that you're getting engaged."

Diana glanced at him sideways.

Charles's voice was low, "What's wrong?"

"Spreading that at a business banquet will definitely reach my parents' ears," Diana kindly reminded him. "If they find out it was you who spread it..."

If it wasn't serious, Daphne would ignore it, but if it was serious, Daphne would definitely have someone clarify it immediately.

As for Benjamin, it was hard to say.

"They say fresh college graduates are very naive, and it turns out to be true," Charles's tone lifted, a hint of softness in his eyes.

Diana was a bit lost. "What do you mean?"

"It will naturally only be spread in front of him." Charles knew what to do. "Just make it seem like he overheard it."

As long as he "overheard" it, his previous suspicions will deepen.

Diana said, "That's really impressive."

"Tell your friends not to let it slip." Charles was thorough in his considerations. "After the banquet, Caspian will likely have someone investigate, and the targets will be your friends."

"With such a clever mind, how did you lose my mom?" Diana could only feel the depth of his scheming.

"Feelings and these matters can't be compared," Charles answered calmly, knowing his own shortcomings. "You can think calmly and make decisions about these things, but feelings—how many people can stay completely rational in matters of the heart?"

Once something unexpected happened, people always lost their rationality when it was related to someone they cared about and loved.

Diana decisively said, "My dad can."

"Your dad is different from normal people," Charles said bluntly. "He's an exception."

As the captain of a special organization, Benjamin had to stay calm and rational at all times, so he was much better at controlling his emotions than they were.

"True." Diana nodded. "I've never seen my dad get angry all these years. It seems like he can handle anything calmly."

"If you mess around outside, he will definitely get angry," Charles said.

Diana was a bit skeptical, but after thinking about it, she found it possible.

But when a usually calm person got angry, the consequences could be severe.

"Better not make him angry." Diana shook her head. "When I was little, I often heard Emma and the others say my dad was cold and heartless, almost inhuman. If I really made him angry, my mom might not be able to protect me."

Charles looked at the night sky and smiled.

He thought to himself, 'She can protect you. If Daphne wants to protect someone, no one can stop her.'

For the next two hours, Diana followed Charles's instructions and informed her friends in advance, then chatted with Charles about trivial matters.

As for Caspian, he started thinking about what Charles had told him after returning home.

Deep down, Caspian didn't really believe it. Not to mention Benjamin and Daphne, even Louis wouldn't just watch Diana get arranged marriage.

But he was afraid it might be true. With all these thoughts, Caspian really wanted to message Diana.

But after weighing the pros and cons, he put his phone down and suppressed all those guesses and thoughts.

If it was really as Charles said, there would definitely be rumors in the circle after a while. Engagements like this always have some rumors before an official announcement.

Time passed day by day.

Diana started officially working at the company.

She was naturally very smart, easily handling the tasks Alvin gave her, leaving her with a lot of free time.

After ordering lunch for Caspian, Diana was just playing in her office.

The other people in the secretarial department didn't talk to her much.

After all, when Diana completed her onboarding but didn't come to work for a few days, the recruitment director had roughly explained her identity to them, telling them not to say anything inappropriate.

In front of Diana, they didn't say anything, but behind her back, they did say a few things.

In the break room.

A few men and women gathered together.

"What does it mean for a socialite to come here and take our jobs?"

"Our jobs are just entertainment for them."

"Being born into a good family is really something."

"I heard she came specifically to pursue Mr. Garcia. Although she's pretty and has a good temperament, does Mr. Garcia really like girls who were pampered growing up?"

"Compared to you guys, she's not pampered at all," Caspian's cold voice suddenly sounded, his gaze carrying a bit of pressure as he looked at them. "Since when does the secretarial department love gossiping so much?"

Everyone was startled and quickly said, "Mr. Garcia."

"One more word defaming a colleague, and you're fired," Caspian said and left, leaving the panicked crowd behind.

Originally, Caspian didn't plan to deal with such matters, but hearing them speak more and more harshly, he couldn't hold back.

People always thought that children from wealthy families were pampered, but in many things, Diana's abilities were top-notch. She had been excellent since she was young.

"Does this count as speaking up for me?" Diana met Caspian at the corner, her beautiful eyes curving as she asked.

Caspian was still holding his coffee. "I just don't like that behavior. If it were any other new hire, I would have spoken up for them too."

"Thank you, Mr. Garcia." Diana didn't listen to his explanation at all.

Caspian glanced at her and was about to leave.

Diana quickly took the coffee from his hand, looking all businesslike. "If you want coffee, just instruct me. No need for you to do it yourself."

"Alvin has something for you." Caspian took the coffee back, his aura cold. "Go find him."

The reason he went to the break room to make coffee himself was to avoid too much contact with her.

Now, Diana had come directly to him.

"Okay." Diana immediately went, not arguing with him.

At this moment, Alvin was full of confusion. "What's up?"

"No idea." Diana knew Caspian was deliberately sending her away but still cooperated. "Mr. Garcia asked me to come find you."

Alvin tried to stay calm on the surface, but his heart was a bit complicated.
