Chapter 606 Came to Gedser
Elara's gut reaction was to say no. But then she remembered she couldn't just drive off. What if she bumped into Jesse? That would totally blow her cover.
"Thanks," Elara finally said.
After linking up with Autumn, Elara decided to go have some fun.
It was past 2 PM when she finally got back.
Meanwhile, Jesse, after leaving Daphne's place, headed home. Around noon, his phone rang.
It was Eugene.
Jesse's first instinct was to ignore it, but he figured Eugene might stir up some trouble, so he answered, "What's up?"
"Come get me at the station." Eugene's tone was bossy, like he was giving an order.
Jesse was confused. Why was Eugene at the station?
"I came to Gedser with Nash's daughter, Yasmin. We're at the station now." Eugene's voice was loud and impatient. "Hurry up and pick us up."
"What are you doing here?" Jesse couldn't wrap his head around it.
"Is there a problem with me visiting you?" Eugene's words were shameless. "If you don't come, I'll call the cops, and they'll make you come get me."
Jesse's face went cold.
Eugene wouldn't have come to Gedser on his own. At most, he would have cursed over the phone and then gone around town badmouthing Jesse.
Plus, calling the cops and having them call Jesse? That was definitely Yasmin Westwood's idea.
"Which station?" Jesse decided to go see what was up.
"Didn't I say the station?" Eugene was super impatient, treating Jesse like a kid. "Use your brain!"
"There are dozens of stations in Gedser." Jesse's tone stayed cool. "How am I supposed to know which one?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end. Jesse could vaguely hear Eugene talking to a girl.
After getting the right station, Jesse changed into a more low-key, casual outfit. But even then, his clothes were still pretty pricey.
After all, Jesse had been with HorizonTech Group for years. Whether as Daphne's assistant or as the owner of HorizonTech Group, his attire had to reflect the company's image and couldn't be too cheap.
Jesse shot Elara a message saying he had something to handle, then drove off.
Eugene was super impatient waiting at the station. In just ten minutes, he called Jesse to hurry him up.
Jesse didn't answer.
"Eugene, don't be so anxious," Yasmin tried to calm him down. "Gedser is pretty big. If Jesse lives far, it could take about two hours to get here."
"That long?" Eugene was clearly annoyed.
"If he lives close to the HorizonTech Group headquarters, it would take about an hour." Yasmin added, having already checked.
Eugene was full of impatience, but with Yasmin there, he held back his temper. "Do you really think you can get Jesse to come home and marry you?"
"We can only try." Yasmin didn't dare to promise anything.
Jesse was the president of HorizonTech Group, a position with a lot of weight. Even though Eugene claimed Jesse's salary was only about twenty grand, Yasmin knew it had to be way more.
For a top-tier company like HorizonTech Group, executive salaries started at a million bucks, and Jesse, as the president, would certainly earn much more.
Over an hour later, Jesse finally showed up.
The moment Yasmin saw him, she froze, completely captivated. She had pictured Jesse as a bit chubby, in a suit, looking all mature.
But Jesse was nothing like that. He was handsome with a unique vibe, like a comic book hero. Even in a simple dark casual outfit, he stood out.
"What are you doing here?" Jesse asked Eugene right away.
"This is Nash's daughter, Yasmin," Eugene skipped the small talk and introduced Yasmin directly. "Put your work aside, take some leave, and come home to get married."
Jesse was at a loss for words. When Eugene got mad, he was impossible to reason with. If Eugene didn't want to leave, nothing Jesse said would matter.
"What are you standing there for? Buy a ticket and come home with us," Eugene blurted out.
"I'm not going back," Jesse made his stance clear, speaking coolly. "I have a girlfriend and won't marry Yasmin."
"Say that again!" Eugene's controlling nature flared up.
Jesse's tone stayed cool, with a hint of pressure. "Doesn't matter how many times I say it."
Eugene's temper flared, and he swung a slap at Jesse's face. With that force, if Jesse got hit, there would definitely have been a handprint on his face.
"I'm not the Jesse from twenty years ago." Jesse caught Eugene's hand, his grip so strong that Eugene's hand was stuck in mid-air. "Since you abandoned me back then, don't think you can interfere in my life now."
"If I hadn't abandoned you, would you have the life you have now?" Eugene was truly shameless.
Jesse stayed silent, just letting go of Eugene's hand.
This side of Jesse was something Eugene had never seen.
Being looked at with such cold eyes by Jesse, Eugene felt a faint, almost imperceptible sense of retreat.
"You've finally met, so stop arguing," Yasmin stepped in, smiling at Jesse. "Eugene has been on the road for hours and hasn't had lunch yet. Why don't we find a place to eat first?"
Jesse didn't say anything but led them to a restaurant.
At 2 PM, most restaurants were closed. Jesse had to drive around until he found one that was still open.
Yasmin wanted to get closer to Jesse, so she opened the front passenger door. Seeing a briefcase on the seat, she instinctively wanted to move it and sit down.
"Since it's just the two of you, sit in the back," Jesse said.
Yasmin was unreserved. "It's fine, I'll hold it."
"I don't like people touching my things," Jesse spoke directly, his cool voice adding, "It's better if you sit in the back with my dad."
Feeling a bit awkward, Yasmin complied.
"Yasmin, sit in the back," Eugene, unaware of these subtleties, was just hungry.
Yasmin had no choice but to close the front door. "Okay, Eugene."
