Chapter 337 Shamelessly Relying on Women
Benjamin was at a loss for words. Daphne, as usual, was clueless.
"Benjamin," Daphne said, focused on helping him with his parents. "Do they have any specific expectations for your girlfriend? Should I act a certain way?"
"No need," Benjamin replied, glancing at her while driving. "Just be yourself."
"Will I mess things up for you?" Daphne asked.
"No," Benjamin assured her.
With that, Daphne stopped asking questions.
Two hours later, they arrived at a courtyard.
Benjamin handed the car keys to the bodyguard and helped Daphne out of the car.
Daphne felt uneasy but didn't show it. She had always worried Benjamin might not have enough money, but today proved otherwise. This courtyard alone was worth billions.
"Benjamin," Daphne asked as they walked in, "Is your family rich?"
"Not bad," Benjamin said. "Probably not as much as yours, but we’re comfortable."
"Do you want me to hold your arm or hand?", Benjamin asked.
"Your arm," Daphne replied.
"Okay," Benjamin nodded.
They chatted as they walked in.
Benjamin didn't waste time and took Daphne straight to meet his parents.
Henry and Anouk stood up with smiles when they saw them.
"Mom, Dad, this is Daphne, my girlfriend,", Benjamin introduced.
"Hello," Daphne greeted.
"Hello."Anouk smiled. "Come, have a seat."
Anouk chatted with Daphne for a while.
Benjamin was surprised by Anouk's enthusiasm. Knowing Daphne wasn't used to such situations, he held her hand. "I'll show her my room first; you guys keep chatting."
"Alright," Anouk agreed.
After they left, Anouk said to Henry, "Daphne is so pretty, sensible, and polite."
"Doesn't the name Daphne sound familiar?" Henry asked.
"Does it?" Anouk was puzzled.
"Yes," Henry insisted.
"Maybe Benjamin mentioned her before?" Anouk suggested.
"No, Benjamin keeps things to himself," Henry said, "How could we have known from him?"
"Stop overthinking," Anouk said gently, "Check on the kitchen preparations. It's Daphne's first visit; I want it to be perfect."
"I've already checked," Henry reassured her. "Everything's fine."
Benjamin took Daphne to his room. Though he rarely came back, it was spotless, showing it was cleaned regularly.
"I didn't expect them to be so enthusiastic," Benjamin said, pouring her a cup of coffee. "They must be really happy to see you."
"What about next time?" Daphne asked directly.
Benjamin paused. "What next time?"
"This kind of thing can be faked once, but not twice," Daphne said, sipping her coffee calmly. "What if they ask about you later? How will you respond?"
Benjamin hadn't thought that far ahead. He had planned for Daphne to pretend to be his girlfriend for this visit, then continue pursuing her until she became his real girlfriend.
But given the current situation, while Daphne wasn't avoiding him anymore, their relationship hadn't progressed. It was tricky.
"We'll deal with it when it happens," Benjamin said after a moment.
Daphne took another sip of coffee and didn't press further. She had deliberately not brought any gifts this time.
She was just pretending to be Benjamin's girlfriend; bringing gifts would complicate things for his future real girlfriend. So, it was best to keep things simple.
"What are you thinking about?" Benjamin lightly tapped her forehead.
Daphne thought for a moment. "I think you shouldn't have people pretend to be your girlfriend to deceive your parents. If the act is too convincing, it will make things difficult for your real partner."
"I know what I'm doing; don't worry," Benjamin reassured her.
Hearing this, Daphne felt relieved.
Benjamin always thought things through; even if something happened in the future, he would handle it well.
About ten minutes later, Benjamin took Daphne out of the room to chat with Henry and Anouk. Although Daphne rarely faced such situations, she handled it well.
Facing Anouk's questions, she always responded appropriately, giving a very comfortable impression.
"Daphne," Anouk said, clearing her throat and exchanging a glance with Henry. "I heard from Benjamin that he eats your food, lives at your place, and even got a job at your company. How do you feel about his reliance on you?"
Benjamin's tone was gentle. "Say what you think; don't worry too much."
"He's not relying on me. In fact, I often go to his place for meals," Daphne explained, unsure of what Benjamin had told Henry and Anouk. "He's capable, knowledgeable, and talented. It's just that his long-term involvement in the organization has caused some disconnection with society, and he needs time to adapt. I'm just offering a bit of help."
Anouk and Henry looked at Benjamin skeptically, curious about what he had told Daphne.
How did the phrase "disconnection with society" come up?
At the same time, they concluded one thing: Daphne was quite naive.
"You really don't think he's relying on you?" Henry asked seriously.
Daphne shook her head. "No."
"You should be more cautious in the future," Henry said, feeling disdain for Benjamin's behavior. "Some people seem honest but are actually full of bad intentions."
"How can you say that in front of Daphne?" Anouk disapproved, giving him a look.
Benjamin was still there; was it really okay to undermine him like this?
Henry suppressed his emotions. If it weren't for Daphne being there, he would have already called relying on a woman disgraceful.
