Chapter 591 Enjoy Watching Them Together

Elara's fingers hovered over the keyboard, her eyes lighting up. 'That's it! He said we'd meet at Fresh Harvest Eatery, but he never mentioned chatting while eating,' she thought.

She grinned, her eyes sparkling. "Jesse, you're a genius!"

Jesse shifted uncomfortably. "It's no big deal."

"From what I know about them, they'll definitely try to flirt with you once they see you," Elara said, knowing their habit of frequently changing boyfriends. "Don't worry, I've got your back."

Jesse nodded. "Okay."

Meanwhile, when Jesse's friends saw the post, especially Mark, they were buzzing with curiosity.

Mark immediately called Jesse. "Don't you think it's a bit much? You didn't even tell me you two were getting together. I mean, I did help set you guys up."

"We just didn't want to interrupt your honeymoon," Elara chimed in.

Jesse agreed, "Yeah, exactly."

"I don't even want to call you out," Mark said, clearly feeling ignored. "When are you going to settle the bill for setting you up? One of you is a CEO, and the other is a wealthy socialite. You can't be thinking of stiffing me, right?"

"What money?" Jesse asked, confused.

Elara coughed, feeling a bit guilty.

"Elara didn't tell you?" Mark asked, curious.

"I told him; he just didn't get it right away," Elara cut in. "Don't worry, we won't shortchange you."

"Alright," Mark said, not wanting to drag it out. "I won't bother you anymore. Wishing you a lifetime of happiness and love."

As the call ended, Jesse was still puzzled. "What money was Mark talking about?"

"Nothing," Elara said, not planning to explain. If she told him, would Jesse think she was a bad person?

"You know how Mark is. If I had used money to buy info about you, he would've told me without hesitation," Jesse said, knowing Mark's love for money.

Elara glanced at him. "It's really nothing."

Jesse stayed silent, waiting for her to continue.

"I spent most of my time studying abroad, right?" Elara scratched her head, deciding to come clean. "I asked Mark to keep an eye on you and tell me about your life."

Jesse looked at her.

Before he could speak, Elara quickly added, "But don't worry, it wasn't to spy on you. He just told me what he knew."

"If you wanted to know, you could've asked me," Jesse said. "You'd get more detailed info from me."

"You were busy every day. If I asked you, you wouldn't have paid attention to me," Elara said, feeling a bit hurt. "I asked you before, and you told me to only bother you if it was important."

Jesse paused.

Elara continued, "I just wanted to chat and ask about your recent situation, but you were too busy, and your replies were very cold."

"From now on, I'll tell you whatever you want to know," Jesse said, wisely dropping the previous topic.

Hearing Elara, he vaguely remembered. That period seemed to be the busiest time for HorizonTech Group. Not only was he extremely busy, but so was Daphne.

So, whenever Elara reached out, Jesse would reply with the shortest messages possible.

"Forget it! Since you're being good now, I won't hold it against you," Elara said, putting her phone away. "But we need to settle Mark's money."

Jesse asked, "How much?"

"Ten bucks per message. When he was about to get married, he calculated there were about fourteen thousand valid messages," Elara scrolled through her chat history with Mark and concluded, "He said he'd give us a friendship price, one hundred and twenty thousand dollars."

Jesse quickly pulled out his phone and messaged Mark: [How dare you make money off Elara?]

Mark: [I agreed with her that the bill would be settled after you two got together. If you didn't, it would be free. So, I'm making money off you.]

Jesse: [Charles pays you a decent salary, doesn't he?]

Mark: [Who would complain about having too much money?]

Mark: [Hurry up and transfer the money. I need to buy something for my wife.]

Jesse felt a bit speechless but then opened his mobile banking app to transfer the money.

"Do you have Mark's bank account number?" Elara remembered this issue while transferring the money. "If not, ask him for it."

"I've transferred it," Jesse sent the transfer receipt to Mark and answered Elara, "You don't need to transfer it."

Elara gave him a puzzled look.

Jesse handed her the receipt.

Elara scratched her head. "Isn't it a bit inappropriate for you to transfer the money for me?"

"He's always been out to make a buck off me," Jesse said, knowing Mark all too well after years of friendship. "From now on, if he brings up money, just don't agree to anything.""Why?" Elara looked puzzled. Mark wasn't a scammer, so why should she be wary of him?

"Back when you were single, he didn't have any reason to scam you," Jesse explained. "But now that you're my girlfriend, he's trying to get to me through you."

Elara clicked her tongue and continued eating. After a few bites, she coughed lightly and said, "There's something I need to tell you, but don't get mad."

"Go ahead," Jesse said, unaware.

"A long time ago, I used to enjoy watching you and Mark together," Elara said with some guilt but very seriously. "Do you remember the high school sports meet?"

Jesse was puzzled. Him and Mark?

"At that time, Mark was doing the long jump and accidentally twisted his ankle in the sandpit," Elara said. She didn't want to remember those times when they were together, as it was Jesse she liked, but she couldn't help it. "When you saw he couldn't walk, you immediately rushed over."

"Isn't caring for a friend normal?" Jesse didn't realize.

"It's not about caring or not," Elara shared her observations. "I don't know about others, but from what I've seen, male friendships are usually about teasing each other, rarely about the kind of detailed care you showed."

"At that time, not just me, but several girls in our class thought you two were together," Elara added honestly.

Back then, Jesse and Mark were boarding at school, and their activities were never more than 6 feet apart. They ate, slept, studied, and got tired together.

Both of them were good-looking and more meticulous in their actions than most boys, which made the girls enjoy watching them together.
