Chapter 239 You'd Better Buy a Ticket and Leave Quickly.
Daphne thought it made sense. "Okay."
After the call ended, Daphne went to the study to prepare Benjamin's special labor contract, while Evan called Benjamin.
He wanted to know who would ultimately win Daphne's heart, Benjamin or Charles.
Although Daphne trusted Benjamin and had no guard against him, she didn't have romantic feelings for him.
As for Charles, he selfishly didn't want Daphne to be entangled with him anymore.
Charles's actions destroyed Daphne's trust and feelings for him.
When Daphne liked someone, she gave it her all, but once she stopped loving, it was hard to win her back.
As he thought about this, his call was answered. Benjamin's deep voice slowly said, "Evan."
Evan said, "You're acting pretty fast."
"I missed her once because of various concerns. This time, I won't miss it again." Benjamin's voice was low and pleasant as he chatted with Evan.
Evan asked, "Are you sure?"
"Yes," Benjamin replied calmly.
"If you need anything, just let us know," Evan said slowly, pushing his glasses. "Kevin and I are always ready to help."
Benjamin wanted to hear just that. "If she asks you about my job assignments, make it sound as bad as possible. Make sure she doesn't send me anywhere else."
Given Daphne's personality, if he had worked by her side for a month, she would probably have figured out his strengths.
If he continued working by her side, it wouldn't matter, but if he were sent away, his hopes of using this opportunity to get closer to her would be dashed.
"I understand," Evan said shrewdly.
The call ended.
Benjamin went to take a shower and changed into his pajamas.
Evan, holding his phone, fell into thought, sighing at Benjamin's rocky road to love.
When Benjamin learned from Kevin about Daphne's marriage and subsequent divorce, he called Evan and said, "If I hadn't hesitated, would she have been happier?"
At that moment, Evan knew Benjamin regretted not expressing his feelings to Daphne because of his status.
But he was also surprised that Benjamin liked Daphne.
He hadn't seen it coming. After all, Benjamin treated everyone equally during training, never showing favoritism.
Thinking about this, he had only one thought.
He hoped this time, Daphne would be happy.
Daphne had no idea that the two people she trusted were colluding. After organizing and printing the labor contract, she stamped it with the company's seal and signed her name.
As long as Benjamin signed it, the labor contract would be effective.
After finishing all this, it was already past 10 PM. She tidied up, then went to wash up and sleep.
She had a very regular routine.
Early the next morning, Daphne received the address from Lydia.
Just as she was about to leave, she opened the door and saw Benjamin standing outside with breakfast. For a moment, her mind went blank.
After a night's sleep, she still felt a bit unreal.
Benjamin handed over the breakfast, his long, elegant hand looking very attractive. "Breakfast."
"Benjamin." Daphne didn't know how to describe her feelings.
Benjamin used to be so cold; now, he was inviting her to meals and bringing her breakfast.
It made her feel awkward.
Seeing her eyes change, Benjamin said, "Aren't you going to eat?"
"Just be the way you were before," Daphne said, "You don't have to be too nice to me. Besides being your boss, I'm also your team member and friend."
Benjamin withdrew his hand, laughing in exasperation. "Daphne."
Daphne asked, "What?"
Benjamin asked, "Do you think I'm trying to please you?"
Daphne didn't know how to answer. She didn't think he was trying to please her, but it just felt strange.
"Take it and eat," Benjamin said, pushing the breakfast into her hand without hesitation, "I really don't know what you are thinking about."
Daphne was left speechless, silently complaining in her heart.
Wasn't it because he was acting so out of character?
Before, if she was late, she wouldn't get any food. If she didn't complete her tasks, not only would she not get food, but she would also be punished. Now, he was bringing her food directly. How could she not overthink it?
Maybe this was actually his way of settling scores with her for the last incident, giving her one last meal before punishing her.
The more she thought about it, the more she felt she was right.
She instinctively said, "Benjamin, just tell me how you plan to punish me."
She was sure.
This was Benjamin's way of punishing her.
Just because she had used him as an antidote in a phone call last time, he was now trying to give her psychological pressure.
And he succeeded.
Benjamin gritted his teeth, strongly desiring to express his thoughts to Daphne, who tended to overthink. Did she have to misunderstand his good intentions?
"Why do you think I want to punish you?" he asked, throwing the question back at her.
Daphne looked up at him, pursed her lips, and finally squeezed out a few words. "You know why."
"Have breakfast with me," Benjamin said, one hand in his pocket, still looking handsome. "Stop imagining things that aren't true."
Daphne took a few steps back, stood at the door for a couple of seconds, then raised her hand and closed the door.
Benjamin was both angry and amused.
She really was a fool.
Daphne felt conflicted.
She couldn't be blamed for overthinking. The Benjamin she remembered was so different from the Benjamin now.
The Benjamin at Luke's house, who kept trying to get her to fall for him, was the one she remembered. Today, he was so gentle that she felt he was out of character.
As she pondered this, she looked at the breakfast forcibly placed in her hand and took out her phone to make a call.
When Kevin received the call, his mind was still foggy, not fully awake. He spoke softly, "Daphne, it's so early. What's up?"
"What would you think if Benjamin brought you breakfast?" Daphne asked.
Kevin's eyes instantly opened wide. "Who?"
Daphne said, "Benjamin."
"I've been good lately." Kevin was fully awake now, a chill running down his spine. "I haven't done anything wrong."
Could it be that he had complained about Benjamin being too strict, and they had ratted him out?
Damn! A bunch of heartless guys.
Could he still buy a ticket and escape now?
"Daphne, where is Benjamin?" Kevin asked quickly, getting dressed in seconds, ready to flee. "Is he bringing me breakfast today?"
Daphne said, "No."
Kevin said, "That's good."
Kevin felt a bit relieved but still quickly packed his bags.
Daphne then said in the second half of her sentence, "He just brought it to me."
There was a muffled sound on the other end of the line.
Kevin was stunned, not even picking up the fallen picture frame, suddenly becoming serious. He said to Daphne, "You'd better buy a ticket and leave quickly. Don't attend tonight's party."
"Is it that scary?" Daphne thought he was exaggerating.
"I'll ask in our friend group. You'll see their reactions and know if it's scary or not." Kevin suddenly felt sorry for Daphne.
How did she end up being targeted by Benjamin?
