Chapter 334 "Can You Be My Sister?"

Daphne unlocked her phone and clicked on the news about the $300 million divorce.

The comments ranged from jokes to serious takes, and even some resentment towards the rich. It was a mixed bag.

"Unbelievable, a $300 million divorce. Didn't Mr. Lancelot have a prenup? He just gave away so much for nothing."

"What do you mean gave away? Marital assets are joint property. What's wrong with splitting them?"

"I just want to know how much of that joint property was earned by Daphne? None, right?"

"$300 million! Give it to me, and I wouldn't just divorce; I'd even help you find another one!"

"Why did they get divorced?"

"That's not something a person with a $3,000 monthly salary should worry about."

"Daphne is the real winner in life. Married, divorced, and got $300 million. Amazing!"

"I suddenly found a way to get rich. Get married and divorced once to earn $300 million. Do it a few more times, and you'll be the richest person in the world."

Most people thought Daphne had schemed to get the money.

After reading through everything, Daphne suddenly understood why Daisy didn't want anything when she got divorced.

Daisy wasn't very famous now; she gained some recognition by playing villains. If her relationship with Austin were exposed, not many people would support her.

In the entertainment industry, reputation was everything. One wrong move and you lost everything.

Things weren't always black and white, and what was presented wasn't necessarily the truth. The online world couldn't be as clear as real-life investigations.

"Daisy." Daphne finally understood Daisy.

Daisy was still angry. "Hmm?"

"When you have your baby and are ready to come back, let me know," Daphne said seriously, "I'll help you."

Daisy was stunned at first, then smiled. "Okay."

After chatting for a while longer, Daphne took out her phone and called Jesse, planning to have him get the PR department to handle the $300 million divorce news.

As soon as the call connected, Jesse spoke, "Ms. Murphy, I've already taken down the news and deleted the content."

"Huh?" Daphne paused.

Jesse asked, "Isn't that why you called me, about the $300 million divorce?"

Daphne replied, "Yes."

Jesse said, "Don't worry. I've taken care of it."

Daphne checked her phone and saw that everything was indeed gone.

She was surprised by Jesse's speed but felt relieved. "Alright, thank you."

"Ms. Murphy." Jesse hesitated, as if struggling with something.

Daphne said, "Hmm?"

Jesse suddenly said, "Can you be my sister?"

Even Daphne was taken aback by Jesse's sudden change of topic.

Jesse, not hearing Daphne's response, thought she hadn't heard clearly and rephrased his question.

His tone was as cold as ever. "If we're just boss and subordinate, I'm worried you might fire me one day and leave me. I want to be closer to you, so I want you to be my sister. I'll always protect you."

"You..." Daphne had a suspicion.

"Don't worry, I have no romantic feelings for you," Jesse quickly explained, afraid of being misunderstood, "Mark tested me."

Daphne got emotional hearing Mark's name. "What test?"

"He asked if I ever thought about holding hands, kissing, or hugging you. If I did, it would mean I liked you,", Jesse said in his usual cold tone. "But I don't. Unless you're drunk, falling, or injured, I won't hold you."

Daphne didn't know how to respond. Mark was too honest.

"Ms. Murphy," Jesse asked seriously, "Would you be my sister?"

"Do I have to call you brother?" Daphne blurted out, thinking it would be weird to call Jesse brother.

"No need," Jesse replied. "Just call me Jesse like before."

"You don't need to worry about me firing you or anything. You'll always be an integral part of HorizonTech Group," Daphne reassured him. "We're also great partners."

"Not enough," Jesse said honestly.

Daphne was amused. She wondered if Jesse would be this serious when he dated someone in the future.

"I want to be your brother," Jesse insisted, "Only then, when someone tries to take you away, I can rightfully vet them."

"Fine, whatever you say," Daphne agreed, not wanting to argue.

Jesse's face remained cold, and Daphne's casual response made him think he needed to change his approach.

After a brief goodbye, Jesse ended the conversation and immediately thought of another approach.

Daphne thought the matter was over and didn't think much about it after hanging up.

Several messages sounded in succession. Daphne opened them to see the group chat.

Kevin send three pictures.

Kevin: [These people are saying such things about Daphne. Clearly, it was Charles who hurt her, but look at what they're saying online.]

Kevin: [I'm so mad. I'm going to fight them all!]

Emma: [Don't go. The news has been taken down. Daphne probably doesn't want to discuss it further. If you stir things up, what if it gains more attention?]

Zoey: [People online enjoy attacking others. They're failures in real life. The more you are engaged with them, the more excited they get.]

Kevin: [It's too much to speak without knowing the truth!]

Emma: [That's how it is online. Otherwise, why do so many news stories keep getting reversed and debunked?]

Kevin: [I'm so angry!]

Daphne: [Don't be mad. I don't care.]

Daphne reassured them as she looked at the group chat.

Kevin was furious and had already fought hundreds of battles online.

Later on, Kevin called Daphne and asked, "Daphne, why don't you just reveal your identity? Let's see if they still say you married Charles for money."

"No need. If I respond, those seeking attention will get what they want," Daphne said, not caring about the online chatter.

What she cared more about now was Alexander. Knowing his personality, if he saw these discussions, he might immediately have the Murphy Group announce that she was the daughter of the Murphy Group.

If that happened, things would really blow up. It wouldn't just be about her and Charles but about the Lancelot Group and the Murphy Group.

Then it would be another round of wild speculation by netizens.
